When I was looking for country songs earlier in the season for a RD, I didn't find a lot of Dixie Chicks songs that met the 120bpm requirement. I'm sure someone will come along to correct me on that though, lol.

Going back to the Amber situation, do you all think this is a case of the songwriter not wanting his music used (for whatever reason), but he doesn’t have the licensing rights, so he has no control over whether Amber can use it or not if she already received proper clearance? It seems like he doesn't realize he doesn't have licensing rights though?? Or he's just so arrogant he doesn't care. Either way I think he's about to learn some things.

Next season, the theme will be "music from the 1920s", because it's rights free/public domain, it's so old.

But they'd still have to get the rights to a particular performance/recording. Unless they only skate to really old recordings of really old music.

People in show business and sports should avoid talking politics. You are always going to have half of the people angry at you. You risk damaging your career.

Not necessarily half. Not all opinions are 50/50.

Hopefully it would include Goodbye Earl.

I imagine that must be the case? We’ve put up with very time-limited on demand videos and music replacement on YouTube the last quad, surely USFS hasn’t dropped the ball on this. I certainly hope not anyway.

But even if he has no legal recourse it’s still unfortunate for Amber.

According to McKinnon, “The deal I have with my label is that I alone can give the OK to license my music.”

I hope this is resolved in Amber’s favor.

Me too. I don't understand how so many people found out before the games that their music wasn't cleared and yet somehow this would have slipped through the cracks.

Or like Gummenik who has used the same music all season including at the Olympic qualifier and it wasn't an issue until this week. And, in his case he uses music from the same film for his free skate and it's OK. No wonder skaters just use 18th and 19th century music. Carmen FTW!

They dropped "Dixie" and are just The Chicks now, and have been for quite some time.

Samuelson and Bates had an amazing OD to Long Time Gone and White Trash Wedding. One of my favorite ever ice dance programs. I'm not sure it would be possible in today's overly PC environment, but I loved it. Original, funny, clever, inventive.

I suppose people could just do what everyone has done and use a remix. Chock and Bates are using Quavo's 2024 "Fly," which is a remixed version of Lenny Kravitz's "Fly Away." (I actually like the remix better than the original.) Many other dances seem to have much more recent remixes of 90s songs.

Not to get overly political, but it seems like it could be a conservative person not wanting a liberal to use his music. People have celebrated the reverse over and over, so the shoe on the other foot seems entirely fair to me. Hopefully for Glenn's sake he cleared the music properly. Otherwise, what's good for the goose (Peter G) is good for the gander (Amber) and she should be working on a Plan B.

I wonder if we eventually wind up in a situation where there are like 50,000 songs that have been approved and skaters need to choose among those songs. They can choose multiple songs / edit them together, etc but there is a universe of pre-approved songs to pick from.

I'm not disappointed. I like Amber Glenn and want her to do well. I hope she followed the proper protocol on music clearance, and it's great if she and the musician can be on good terms despite their political differences.

What I find most funny about that stuff is that people like Madonna or Elton John get excited when skaters use their music and some random nobodies that 95% of the world havn't ever heard of don't want their music to be played somewhere where new people might actually hear it (I checked out the singer that Guinnard & Fabri use the first time yesterday for example, cause they linked her in their story, which is a great way to get some people interested outside your usual market)

I find it funny, too, because I would also take the view that all publicity is good publicity.

OTOH, I can't imagine people wanting to run out and buy that god awful version of "The House of the Rising Sun" that started the music rights mess. We've also complained incessantly about Amber's generic boring background music for years. I can't imagine anyone wanting to download that except to play on an elevator or as hold music.

I doubt these people are seeing any uptick in sales simply because their music is so bad. It's probably the first big publicity some of these people are ever getting. A skater or team's usage is deluding them into thinking that their music is better / worth more than it is. .
