Denney/Frazier as double-medalists (and the only US pairs medalists) was certainly a contender. I also weighed Fear/Gibson's bronze at SCI -- while these two were known to be capable of scoring well, ice dance rankings are typically so rigid (until they aren't) that a surprise medalist is usually not even a thing at a major event, and there was no particular reason to expect they could beat Hawayek/Baker. I went, in the end, with Hase/Seegert.
