‘Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker’ Didn’t Just ‘Fix’ The Last Jedi, It Erased It

Going back to watch The Last Jedi again after two viewings of Rise of Skywalker shows that Abrams wanted the film flat-out erased.

“The more I think about it, the more the disparity between Star Wars’ Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, and then The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker is one of the weirdest things I have ever seen in blockbuster cinema.

When I first saw Rise of Skywalker, I went and made a list of all JJ Abrams’ supposed “fixes” of The Last Jedi, trying to course correct what he saw as Rian Johnson’s wrong turns. But now going back to watch The Last Jedi again after two viewings of Rise, man, it’s even worse than I thought.

It isn’t just that JJ Abrams spent the entire first hour of Rise of Skywalker “fixing” The Last Jedi. When you actually view the trilogy as a whole now it’s…almost not even a trilogy at all. It’s a duology, and frankly, could almost exist with just Force Awakens and Rise of Skywalker alone as its two components. You would have to change almost nothing to make that happen.

JJ Abrams didn’t just try to correct The Last Jedi, he flat-out obliterated it.”

I really enjoyed The rise of Skywalker and The force awakens. Didn’t like the middle one. I don’t care what critics say.
