Saw three movies this week and they all starred animals! First I saw Keanu and what a little diva that kitten is!!! And he is so adorable! The movie was awful but worth it because of the super adorable kitty. :cat: Then I saw Max about a military dog with PTSD and today I saw Seabiscuit. All really entertaining and made better because of their furry stars. :)

I watched a gal pal British film called 4,3,2,1 that rewinds to the first scene to tell each woman's story and timeline involving them and their unwitting roles in a diamond heist. It was fun.

I also saw Shaun The Sheep. This was a sweet film. Now I'm hooked on the tv show.

I watched Youth last night. Not much of a plot, just tiny slices of humanity, all set at a spa in Switzerland.

It stars Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel, Paul Dano, and Rachel Weisz, who are all great and the main reason to watch. Along with the stunning alpine scenery.

It did however feature possibly the worst orchestra conducting I've ever seen on screen -- and that includes Bugs Bunny. But other than that, and a few little plot weaknesses, an enjoyable film.

Julia Roberts is in two movies currently playing in cinemas. This chick has been acting for nearly 30 years and is still going strong. I remember seeing her for the first time in Pretty Woman way back in 1990. (I think) Way to go Julia!!! :cheer2:

Saw Minions the other day. So cute! I don't think I ever saw Despicable Me (or the sequel...there was a sequel, right?) so I didn't really know what to expect. But it was a lot of fun. :respec:

I've never been crazy about Jessie Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart but found I liked them both in "American Ultra." The film was incredibly violent and it was only a fondness for their characters they kept me interested in the film. And Topher Grace is a great, smarmy bad guy.

I saw "Money Monster" this afternoon (as a break from the housework crap I was doing). It was well acted but the script was very uneven. IMO the movie would have worked better had they swapped Jack O'Connell and George Clooney's roles and re-written a bit of the script (especially ditching the whole minor girlfriend sub-plot). Just would have made more sense to have an older guy being frustrated with losing all his savings in a stock plummet.

Watched on DVD 'He named me Malala'. May be I had too high expectations, but I thought it was just OK. I will probably watch it again; may be I missed something the first time.

I watched 'Twinster' on netflix. A documentary, Sam, 25 yearold Korean born, American adopted girl that works in LA, as an actress and YouTube - and she is friended on Facebook by a girl, Aniis, that lives in London, raised in Paris, Korean born, and adopted that looks like her - one of her friends saw the YouTube.
Ends up they are identical twins. Sam and her friend document this process, the meetings etc.
Such a lovely story, the 2 girls are so adorable, very moving to see them, their adopted families and friends react.

I rented "Star Wars." I saw it at the cinema but wanted to see it again. I do love what they did with Rey. She is not sexualized in any way in this film. That is really refreshing. Daily Ridley is an appealing actress. Good for her and good for us.

Interesting that Woody Allen hired them as a package. He must have seen what you see.

I finally saw Deadpool last night. Loved the humor and the character's creation story but it was so violent. Even though it was cartoony violence, I had to spent a lot of the film looking down and just listening instead of watching.

I was happy to see Jessie not be so twitchy. And I think getting beyond vampires was the best thing for Stewart. Maybe he did...though I've always imagined him watching the New York Knicks and old films and nothing else. Can't be right...

Saw Midnight Special. I liked it :). It's a slower and quieter movie, but well-paced. It plays out as sort of a mystery, but in a sci-fi context. I'd give it a 7.

Nicole Kidman, Jason Bateman, Christopher Walken in "The Family Fang" https://youtu.be/J-jWH0tIrak

I think this film might be something very fresh. I don't know if there are many new ideas anymore but this might be one. I want to see it.

Allen sometimes gives breaks to people who have been ousted by the industry for whatever reason. He once hired Elizabeth Berkley.

May 6th - Dheepan (Limited) – French drama, new cast. From imdb.com: “Dheepan is a Sri Lankan Tamil warrior who flees to France and ends up working as a caretaker outside Paris.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpXHi7TGYpg

I'm extremely late on my review for this, but this film very much follows the vein of one of Jacques Audiard's previous films, Un prophète, in that the tensions begin right from the beginning right up a very striking (yet inevitable) conclusion.

I thought having a lead actor (Antonythasan Jesuthasan) who himself was actually a Tamil Tiger child soldier helped in connecting the (very obvious) parallels of survival between Sri Lanka and Europe. The rather unflattering portrayal of newcomers' experiences to Western Europe stands out the most (but don't expect the director/writer to offer any solutions or inkling of hope). In a rather ironic twist given recent events, a comparison between France and the UK on this hot-button issue is inferred).
