Italian figure skating news & updates

Just to bring your calculators out again

Ranking for World selections are
Single and Pairs: Nationals + 3 best competitions (same division between type A and B used for Olympic ranking) with at leas one of them taking place in 2026
Ice Dance: Nationals + average of 3 other scores (with one of them being from 2026).

If they are wishing a certain range (20 points for women and pairs, 25 for Ice Dance and 30 for men) the ranking may be overlooked.

Manni/Röthlisberger did not blow away at Euros. I think they can be beatable for 2nd Ice Dance spot if Tali/LaFornara are now healthy.
Bavarian Open will see Tali/LaFornara vs Paolino/Tuba.

Beccari/Guarise may not show up again. Because it is not that Ghilardi/Ambrosini can't be beaten...but they may not have competition.

Pezzetta is harmed by that awful FS at Nationals. And the fact she finished also behind Joos again at Europeans does not help her case.

I guess Memola will take his time to properly heal his injury and plan for next season.
As for Frangipani....he just lost to Circelli AND Nalbone at Merano Trophy.

Noah Lafornara posted after Nationals that they won't compete anymore this season, because his injury isn't healing as quickly as they hoped. I wonder if anything changed or if they will WD again from Bavarian Open.

I checked the entry deadline for Bavarian Open and it was in December, so before that post by Noah (10th January). So I guess they planned to compete there but then because of the injury not improving as hoped, they called the end of the season and so won't show up.

Jan. 13, 2026:
Conti/Macii's absence [from Euros] is due to physical issues for Conti.
Italian Fed's press release talks about "risentimento fisico" which sound as less critical than infortunio (injury)
Today's updates on Conti/Macii in Milan (re-posting here from the 2026 Olympics subforum in Kiss & Cry):
Jackie Wong's tweeted updates on Sara Conti's injury:
Sara Conti/Niccolo Macii on the ice for practice - Conti wearing a brace on her right knee
Sara Conti landing solo triple salchows just fine, but no throws yet
Conti/Macii getting a feel for the ice, no twists/lifts/throws, did both sbs, and Conti doesn't look to have discomfort in her knee, very much limiting what they are doing here right now in this session
Twists were more tentative given she picks in with her right leg, not getting the split and the clean catch; just did a first throw and that was the first I've seen a bit of discomfort from Conti; second thr3S was a beauty

Conti/Macii in the mixed: 1st day in the village and on Olympic ice; surreal to be here. Injury happened on 12/28, thr3Lo error and had a tear in the knee. Didn’t skate for 15 days, on crutches. Knee brace is for precaution, but she is back to doing everything.
Conti/Macii more on injury: Torsion is the issue when she feels pain, like takeoff of her sal, pick on the twist, and landing of the throws

Valentina Marchei wrote about Team Italy fulfilling their long quest for a medal as well as some touching words about Matteo Rizzo (her hug with him backstage afterwards is photo #3):

It's all true 🥉 It's all yours ✨

Twelve years of chasing this bronze, never giving up on believing in it, through fourth-place finishes that hurt and taught us everything, until yesterday, on our home ice, in front of a packed arena, around the necks of guys I've trained with for years.

Because behind that medal there's more than one competition: there are so many lives intertwined.

Thank you, guys, for making all of Italy dream, giving visibility to a sport that can excite even those who know little about it.
Thank you to my Olympic teammates, with whom we've been chasing this bronze for years, because yesterday it could only have taken shape this way: on our home ice, around the necks of wonderful athletes.

And finally, allow me a personal thought for @matteorizzoo, because he's like a brother to me. Yesterday, he wrote an important chapter in his career with a textbook performance, in a moment of enormous pressure, when nothing was a given, driven by the passion, determination, and grit that have always been his strength, since he was a child. I had the privilege of watching him grow, of participating in the Games with his dad [Valter Rizzo], my coach, of chasing dreams and experiencing his first Olympics together.

My heart skipped a beat last night, giving way to tears of immense pride. ♥️🇮🇹✨
