Thanks for the link, @Andrea82 - guess it’s time to begin creating a gazillion ;) threads in the National Championships 2024-2025 subforum in Kiss & Cry.

ETA:

ICYMI in other threads, Ghilardi/Ambrosini are listed in the ISU’s Practice Groups/Music Rotation document that was updated today (replacing Stellato-Dudek/Deschamps - he is recovering from an illness per Skate Canada).

Selection criteria for ISU Championships for Single and Pairs

Nationals + Top 2 scores from other competitions for Europeans
Nationals + Top 3 scores from other competitions for Worlds. One of the scores must be achieved after Nationals.

How to calculate the top scores?

Scores from the following competitions count fully:
  • Challenger Series
  • ISU Championships
  • ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final and series
  • ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating series
  • ISU World Team Trophy in Figure Skating
  • Figure Skating Olympic Qualifying Competition
  • EYOF
  • YOG
  • Olympics
  • World University Games

Scores from the following competitions should be factored by 0.95. Except for the top score which can be counted fully.
  • Other International competitions in ISU calendar
  • Italian Fed Interclub competitions
  • International interclub competitions in ISU calendar
  • Elite Italian Championship Series
If you skip Nationals, you can use another international score. If you don't have other international events in the season to add to your ranking, you can use the score of your last international competition [edit compared to original post: it is not your top one but the last one] of last season but factored by 0.95 (if they have been achieved in events from first list). or 0.85 (if they have been achieved in events from second list).

For Junior Worlds it is National + Top 3 scores from other competitions for Worlds. One of the scores must be achieved after Nationals.
If you are using scores from Senior events, you have also

In Single, deduce the step sequence points
In Pair, deduce the lowest lift score

And then prepare the calculator.

So, basically, if BecGuar are healthy, they're in over CalMag for Euros because... Well, their scores are well more than 5% higher than CalMag, lol.

well yes.

They have Shangai score.
And then use Article 13 and 14

13. If there are no valid international competitions in the current season, the total score of the Italian Championship not contested will be replaced by that of the last international competition contested in the previous sporting season multiplied by the coefficient 0.95 for type A competitions and 0.85 for type B competitions.

14. An athlete who, for reasons of force majeure that are adequately documented or in agreement with the Technical Committee, cannot take part in the minimum number of international competitions on the ISU calendar or competitions on the FISG calendar that are useful for the calculation of the ranking, may use the total score of the last international competition held the previous sporting season multiplying it by the coefficient 0.95 for type A competitions and 0.85 for type B competitions.

Well, actually, I don't think the Fed considered the situation of someone missing both Nationals (Article 13) and the minimum number of international competitions (Article 14) because, well, they are advocating using the same score in both articles.

Congratulations to Tali/Lafornara on their JGPF win! They have been so impressive this season. I'm really happy for Italy to have such promising up-and-comers.
Definitely! :) And here's Noemi/Noah's Junior Free Dance (ISU SB scores of 101.32 in FD & 169.98 total): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUn-kFWXpQc
Denis Petukhov was with them in Grenoble - who was the older man in the kiss & cry?

Beccari/Guarise are skipping also Nationals (19-21 December)
Entry lists:
Thanks for the Nationals link & the selection criteria. Does anyone know if there will be a free or paid livestream for Nationals?

They are both so lyrical and fluid.

Did they ever publicly say why they decided to skate for Italy versus USA? Just curious.

Noah Lafornara competed in one JGP for the USA with Canadian-born Romy Malcolm (she's competing now with Kobi Chant for Australia) - Malcolm/Lafornara placed 9th in Gdansk in the fall of 2022: https://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00114536.htm

When he competed in the U.S. (singles up until Novice level), Lafornara was coached by his mother, IIRC, and competed in Juvenile, Intermediate & Novice Ice Dance (qualified for Nationals twice in Juvenile Pairs with the same partner, once in Juvenile Dance & once in Intermediate Dance and once in Junior with Chant in 2022): https://skatingscores.com/skater/noah_lafornara/

Noemi previously competed nationally & internationally with Stefano Frasca in Junior for 4 seasons (2020-2023 Junior Worlds): https://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00108376.htm
SkatingScores.com lists them for 3 earlier seasons in Novice (2016-19).

ETA: Frasca is skating this season with Anna Bodrone in Senior (they competed in 4 internationals this fall).

They could do real well for USA as well
Unless there is something that we don’t know, she cannot obtain U.S. citizenship in time for the 2026 Olympics, which will be in Italy. And even if she can, there is no guarantee that they would make the U.S. Olympic Team. :(

He may very well already have Italian citizenship or be able to obtain it quickly. They are quite likely to be named to the 2026 Italian Olympic Team. 🇮🇹

Ehhhhhh... I don't know that I think it's all that likely. Their SB in the RD (which, granted, is junior) isn't high enough to qualify for the FD at Worlds, and the same is true for all the other Italian teams. Manni/Roethlisberger have the best chance, but their SB in the RD is a good 3.5 points below the 20th best team likely to be at Worlds (BekHern), and would have them 25th in the RD. If Italy's 2nd team doesn't make the FD then Italy will have to send a team to the Olympic Qualifying Event next fall to earn the 2nd spot, where there will be 4 spots up for grabs. It would be a really heavy lift for them to earn a spot there, I think, though it's not completely out of the question, but they'll be in a dogfight with Harris/Chan, Ignateva/Szemko, Yoshida/Morita, Janse van Rensburg/Steffan, Pucherova/Lysak, Reitan/Majorov, Val/Kazimov, Tkachenko/Kiliakov, and whichever Ukrainian team is sent.

Golden Skate's Judith Dombrowski spoke with Tali/Lafornara after their JGPF win (Dec. 15, 2024): https://www.goldenskate.com/tali-and-lafornara-will-bid-junior-ranks-farewell-after-debrecen/

Sounds like Beccari/Guarise are done for the season. Lucrezia had surgery on her foot.

Tali/Lafornara looked fantastic at nationals today. Got a little out of sync on the first set of twizzles, but everything else was great. They're leading the juniors with 74.57.

During the broadcast of Nationals on Eurosport, they interviewed Babs...whining about some of the international judges. She said that Guignard/Fabbri's Free Dance is made for knowledgeable people and those sitting on judging panels are supposed to be so.

Paolo Pizzocari was interviewed before Pairs FS and he confirmed Pezzetta and Gutmann for Euros. He said Ice Dance 2nd spot and Men selection will be officially announced in a few days when selection committee meets.

I didn't bring the calculator out, but it looks like the second Ice Dance spot will go to Manni/Röthlisberger. They placed second at Nationals and have higher international scores than Dozzi/Papetti.
As for the Men's, it was close between Memola and Frangipani for the third spot before Nationals, but Memola definitely secured it today. I think Rizzo had enough cushion over Frangipani due to his GP results.

Video of Anna's winning free skate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSt6nmef0uc

So happy she was able to put it all together here. I'm just sorry the video cuts off before we get to see her reaction!

My goshhhhhh THOSE JUMPS. she is the best jumper women’s figure skating has, and could possibly be at one time in the future, the best we’ve ever had.
