Italian figure skating news & updates

From Anything GOEs: https://anythinggoe.com/dgrasslantidopingviolation/

In an exclusive statement to AnythingGOEs, Grassl’s management said: “The justifications presented by Daniel are still being examined. Moreover, in view of the physical and psychological stress given by the situation, Daniel decided to take a break by distancing himself from the environment.”

And Zich is out of JGP Gdansk. He's still on the roster for Yerevan, but it wouldn't surprise me if he winds up being WD there since there's clearly some sort of injury issue going on with him.

Nalbone was removed from the JGP Gdansk roster earlier this week - who knows what the FISG is thinking at this point with all those men's spots gone to waste.

Zich out of Yerevan (or did we already know it? I am getting lost with all Italian men's withdrawals)

1. Why did he put "person" in quotation marks?
2. Does this commentator have any idea how many skaters have used R&J?

New interview with Nikolaj Memola. Among other things, he talks about that weird scoring at ACI:

“I was very, very happy about my short program yesterday. I saw the score, and I can say, I think it wasn’t right. I’m very critical of myself, like today, when I made a few mistakes. But I thought yesterday was a bit low. But the most important thing is that I’m satisfied with my performance yesterday. When I finished my program. I was very happy. So that’s what matters, and I need to go on working that way.”

In the short program, judges ranked Nikolaj from 3rd to 12th place in PCS, an unusually wide range. “Of course, you can’t be liked by everyone,” was his response. “So I think it’s very good to start doing competitions to try to understand what the actual feedback from the judges is. You cannot just take one competition and say, ‘Oh my god, I got four in presentation from one judge, and another gave me 8.50.’ So it’s not just one competition, we need at least a few to understand where to focus the work.”
He also reveals that he's a Satoko Miyahara fan and is putting together a program that's a tribute to her! :respec:

Also in the works is a new short program to “Adios Nonino” and “Invierno Porteño”.

“It actually was inspired by Satoko Miyahara, it’s like some sort of tribute, and that’s why I didn’t want to perform it because I didn’t feel it was ready. I think if I’m gonna get compared to her, I really want to skate well. I’m just leaving it there [for now]. When it is ready it will be great to perform. I really look up to Satoko, every time she skates in shows I always try to keep up with her performances. I think she’s a great skater, everything she does is so beautiful.”

I don't really know who hired this jackass as a "commentator" but I sincerely hope he doesn't commentate during the Milan Olympics. Imagine saying this after a guy skating at his second ever international comp bombs.
Eurosport is Home of the Olympics until 2026 at least so you can be sure that this arrogant jackass will be "commentating" during the Milan Olympics.
He has repeated this over and over while commentating on TV, every single time someone would skate to Romeo and Juliet.

He's such an embarrassing ass... I feel ashamed for him

Memola looked so incredible in the short program at Budapest trophy. He looks so super fast and his jumps seemed to cover so much distance in the air. I could not believe it.

Frangi on the other hand after just winning Nepela, didn’t do well. It seems like when one of these guys is up the others down, and when the other is up the other is down.

i’m actually getting excited for the Olympics and the Italian contingency. I’m really hoping they can get on the team podium. Oh my gosh the whole team event just gives me stress these days.

Speaking of the Italians getting on the podium for the team event…

Dance - G&F

Pairs - probably 4 teams that could contribute

Men - Rizzo, Memola, Frangi, Grassl who knows… but 4 possibilities as well

Ladies- Pezzeta, Gutmann, but both would need to keep improving

Who do you consider competition coming from if you consider USA and Japan on the podium. Korea?

Italy would be fine in pairs and men - 2 each (there aren't 4 good pairs teams from Italy - just ConMac, GhiAmbro & BecGuar). Men are gonna Men but Rizzo and one of either Frangi or Memola would be okay in the TE.

They would only use 1 team in dance - and rely heavily on those points from GuiFab. If GuiFab are out before Milano for any reason, then Italy is likely screwed in the TE. Their women (Gutmann, Pezzetta, etc) are less reliable than using Karen Chen in the TE and we all know how that worked out....

Is there a protocol for when they will announce what has happened to Daniel? Entered and withdrawn from all of the Challenger events he was listed in. I’m expecting him to be withdrawn from his Grand Prix events, hopefully not in the 11th hour. When will they announce about the doping Violations and what has transpired?
