I saw this...how was he charged with 6 counts of homicide and there are 3 deaths mentioned....

Six counts of murder (three for directly causing another person’s death, three for causing someone’s death during the commission of a separate felony), three counts of voluntary manslaughter, five counts of felonious assault and one count of perjury

A lot of people have been criticising the news item and I'm conflicted. The wordings of the articles and titles especially are legitimately questioned. But when a person is a public figure to the extent that Simone Biles is a public figure, any event that affects them closely and this deeply is a natural news item. I can't really see any way around it.

I’m conflicted, too. I think headlines were similar when Jennifer Hudson’s family members were murdered by her sister’s ex. ... And I don’t know how I feel about being to immediately make this comparison a decade later.

Simone clearly is upset judging by her Twitter post to leave her alone.

Well the connection does make it news. I’m sad for the whole family. I hope they find ways to cope in the coming months.

I'm not conflicted at all. Yes, Simone is a public figure and the media can and will ask about her. And they should, to a certain extent. But it chaps my ass that the media is asking her how she feels about her brother who has been indicted/charged with triple murder. How in the hell is she supposed to feel? Quit asking dumb ass questions. I'd tell the Twitterverse to leave me the f*ck alone, too!

And next, if they haven't already, they'll be asking about what she knows. She lives hundreds of miles away in another state. Again, I hope they don't start with the dumb questions. The woman has been thru more than enough. I'm sure I'd have had a couple of breakdowns already, and no, I'm not exaggerating. Simone is exemplary, but even iron wears out.

I always think it is ridiculous that they choose the men's team this early and then leave the women hanging until literally the last minute. (IIRC, last year they didn't even tell them who would be competing and who would be the alternate until they were already at Worlds.)

I guess but we see which system is producing better results.

I personally don't think the results have that much to do with the system - I think the women's results are better because the pool of girls they have to choose from is much, much larger. They have also had a lot more talent in the women's ranks over the past several years. As many have pointed out, there are enough talented young women in U.S. elite gymnastics right now that they could field two complete Worlds/Olympic teams and those teams would probably finish 1-2 in the team competition. Even if they fielded three or four teams, I think all of those teams could still medal internationally. The same could not be said of the options on the men's side.

Another factor for the men is preparation, particularly in the weight room. Each guy probably has a taper schedule for a big meet.

Chusovitina is just plain amazing. Not the best bars routine, but to be competing so successfully after all these years. Wow.
When she finished 2nd in the vault final at '91 Worlds, her fellow finalists were: Milosovici, Onodi, Bontas, Boginskaya (!), Miller, Zmeskal, and Yan.

In Rhythmic Gymnastics News, the World Championships concluded today in Baku.
For the first time ever, the U.S. placed two in the top 10 of the All-Around and qualified 2 spots for Tokyo and the Group placed 10th as well, the highest finish ever for an American group. Unfortunately, they missed qualifying for Tokyo by one place. Russia almost did a clean sweep of the titles, except for the group from Japan taking the 5 Balls title.

Anyone watching the Selection Camp? I am a little hazy on the rules, does Jade Carey still need to stay off the team to qualify as a specialist?

Riley has rhabdo?? I hope they are seriously looking into her training. I know her coach was already under investigation, but wow.
