I didn't think Galiamov was the star. His stretch and movement are very methodical/beginner-esque. But I really liked watching him with Mishina during the practices and the competition at the JGPF. She talked. He listened. She messed up. He was supportive. She smiled & shared her expression with the audience. He's tall and able to rotate. He's a keeper, IMO. Hope they stick it out through the transition.

I’m not sure about skating but “beauty of face” most certainly is a factor in selecting girls who enter the top ballet academies in Russia. It’s also taken into account in the annual weeding process, if all else is the same...then, of course, in hiring. Just ask 1998 Vaganova Academy grad Irina Kolesnikova, a brilliant dancer who was not hired by any of the major companies after graduation because of certain facial features, joined a smaller private company (Tatchkine’s St. Petersburg Ballet), became a much-beloved Prima on International tours, especially in the UK. I admire Kolesnikova’s ability to laugh at it all now; for example, she’s given herself the Instagram handle “Irinatheuglyduckling”... https://www.instagram.com/irinatheuglyduckling/😆..
... yet now she’s a gorgeous lead in Swan Lake. But I digress.
From what i remember about Kolesnikova's situation before she became a prima, that it is not her face/looks, but her height that was an issue. The "uglyduckling" term is used figuratively (per her own interviews) to describe "someone who stuck out" from the norms and felt like an odd-ball.

She was much taller than most of the girls in the class when she was young, and almost the same height as most male partners when she auditioned. http://www.balletandopera.com/photos_info/person/pr_dancer/irina_kolesnikova/big/1452785439.4141.jpg

Otherwise she was a very pretty girl, when young...

and now.. http://www.svenarnstein.com/newsite2/wp-content/gallery/irina-kolesnikova/ik_blad_1690.jpg

Here is their EX
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvGb1g0tgjs

Mishina is expressive too while Galliamov is certainly no truck driver, He cant even be compared to Morozov.

out of all the juniors, they are the most senior ready with all the basics foundation to reach on top like T/M in their juniors
also they are more senior looking compared to now in senior transitions Pavlyuchenko / Khodykin and Boikova/ Kozlovskii

They have a chance to medal at Nationals imo :)

I was wondering why Tuk would pull out of Nationals almost two weeks before the event.

She's pulled out of Nationals straight away because she was hospitalised with a serious illness, would have had to immediately let the federation know for treatment purposes, would have had no way of getting to Nationals because it's pneumonia and did the sensible thing and immediately withdrew.

There'd be no point clinging to that spot like a dragon sitting on a pile of treasure. There's no way she'd be able to skate. Glad she withdrew immediately so that the federation has the opportunity to give the spot another skater if they choose.

Also I must point out that skaters who podium are tested at every single event and the testers come around to the skaters houses to test them there randomly as well. I recall @taz'smum saying how Tiffany is very regularly tested and I've heard stories of the Russian skaters being pursued quite pointedly by the testers. So it would be impossible for them not to be clean. Skaters on the international circuit would be some of the most regularly tested athletes and also the most objectively tested because they would regularly give samples every couple of weeks in many different countries all throughout the year.

I can't believe we are even talking about this and having this ridiculous conversation.

She did not pull out 2 weeks before the event. She only got back to Moscow on Tuesday ( left Vancouver late Monday arrived Moscow late Tuesday with the time difference), just one week before the team is due to leave for Saransk!

OK, thanks for this. It’s a very short time, if it was a matter of allowing another skater a spot in Nationals.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=tmfLg5JwvwY the clip of the new grandiose show the Swan Lake. This is the official soundtrack. Rudkovskaya is brilliant. She gave a new cheesy song to Bilan ( I like it :slinkaway) and he sings it with the talented Alexander Filin. He is the son of Sergei Filin ( ex Bolshoi director) who is the choreographer of the show and he prepares Evgeni and the ballet dancers. :encore:

The clip is beautiful and heart-warming. Plus Sasha Plushenko , the beautiful Adelina Sotnikova and live music from symphonic orchestra on the shows....:respec:

Evgeni started to learn the ballet choreography with Olga Smirnova some days ago . He enjoyed it so much he was lovely but he must work on it ;)

I posted it in the other thread about Russian Nationals. His coach Valentina Chebotareva was quoted by the news agency TASS confirming that he had problems with sinusitis but will come to Nationals nevertheless.

I hope he will be recovered enough and not does not put his health at further risk. Also I hope he gets the right advice from the doctors. Nationals is important and for sure there are enough people waiting for the chance to kick him out of the National team, so I guess there is a lot of pressure on him to compete. But it won't help him eventually if he competes and skates poorly because he is sick or he aggravates his illness.

Lisa Tuktamysheva obviously had no chance to recover in time for Nationals. She looked still really sick in the photo she posted today (although she wrote that she is much better already). But those people who think she feigned illness to avoid to lose at Nationals to junior skaters probably just think she used make up to look sick. :angryfire:mad:
Kolyada was still in the hospital as of yesterday. After a sinus puncture you need to stay there for several days and you are meant to avoid physical exertion for 7-10 days. When exactly is he planning to recover enough, I wonder.

Twitter is reporting that Medvedeva is working on a new short program:

MedvedevaNation‏ @MedvedevaNation 5h5 hours ago
More

According to TSL's latest video, Zhenya will be debuting a new SP at #RussianNationals ! Music: Tosca, Choreographer: Misha Ge.
#EvgeniaMedvedeva #MishaGe

I don't personally see Tosca as a hotbed of originality, but I can certainly picture it fitting her style a lot better than the cutesy short program she's started the season with. And it's interesting to see Misha Ge's evolution as a choreographer.

Medvedeva changed her SP to "Tosca". Should be interesting to see her debut at Russian Nationals. I wonder if she changed it to 3flip/3toe in beginning to make sure she lands the combo right away. And get rid of the 3 flutz for the 3 loop?

I'm a bit disappointed because I didn't think Orange Colored Sky was the issue at all. I thought her issues this season have all been mental and/or related to the change in technique.
Maybe they think changing the program to something more comfortable will help her focus more on the jumps because she's not trying to change her style? Or maybe they realize her focused facial expression this season will better suit darker music?
