That's the rule in football. In the olden days if the 30 minutes of extra time finished with no winner then it would be followed by sudden death extra time before penalties. The sudden death extra time was dropped a few years back.

We are all here saying the rules have it set up now so everything goes to penalty kicks which is a terrible way to decide a game.

Much prefer sudden death or just one overtime period. Maybe my mind is too hockeyized for this sport....lol!
