Madi & Evan's original fan thread here was started in April 2014 and has gone over 1000 posts following their first World title in Saitama, Japan! :cheer2:
New podcast up: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/unlaced-with-chock-and-bates/id1588753787

They both had a stomach virus at Worlds on the days they competed. Which makes their performances even more amazing.

(I think we might need a new thread? :))

"Chockful of Joy" and "IT'S HAPPENING" were suggested in the previous thread - y'all have 24 hours to reach to a majority decision ;) (I can edit this thread title until then).

CHOCK AND BATES: 'ALL PATHS HAVE LED TO THIS MOMENT' (April 3, 2023): https://www.teamusa.org/News/2023/April/03/Chock-and-Bates-All-Paths-Have-Led-To-This-Moment

ETA - copying over more links from the previous thread...

Post-Worlds interview:

"All paths have led to this moment" would be a good thread title as well. Especially as it comes directly from the skaters.

I vote for "All paths have led to this moment" for the new thread title. :)

Two amazing performances to end the season! :cheer2: :cheer2:

(I must say, though, that I'm disappointed their split slide/spin move in the FD didn't get a perfect score. Boo to judge #9!)

Can't wait to see them at SOI in June! Whatever happens after this season, I'm glad I got to see them live at SA and Nats, and grateful for all the beautiful skating they've given us over the years.

On April 27 Madi & Evan taped a podcast episode in Halifax during rehearsals before the first show of CSOI tour (photos & videos are posted in the 2023 Canadian SOI thread in GSD) and recapped World Team Trophy & their time in NYC:
ETA: "Lolo" F-B accompanied Madi in her wedding dress appointments in NYC (C/B's wedding is scheduled for 2024).

They were in NYC on April 18 as keynote speakers at the Partnership for Clean Competition 2023 conference:
Many photos of them at the conference: https://cleancompetition.org/conference/photo-gallery/

That was a very worthwhile video for any fan of Maddy.& Evan

They included a full video of their Olympic team performance with no commentary. I thought I would never see it again!
They showed this video, which doesn't have any commentary, it's just poorly titled so it's a bit hard to find.

Also interesting is that I don't think they plan on retiring next season? Not when Madi says they "still have big goals and lots of passion for the sport," that's not the type of language I'd expect from athletes who are preparing to imminently retire

Glad that Chock & Bates mentioned Sochi. Nothing like that had ever happened in sport. And what was the result? Many international federations resolved not to hold events in Russia. But, Russia continued to compete though with reduced numbers.
Honestly, I don`t care if Russia whats to explore how chemicals and minipulations of the body can improve their results. But, I think they and those interested in this approach form their own international bodies and events. Imagine how dispiriting it must be to know your competitor with unlimited government backing is possibly taking some new experimental substance. If Russian athletes are welcomed back as IOC is encouraging they will do exactly as they have always done. Cheat.

I have been operating on the assumption they intend on competing at least 1 more season, perhaps more.

Came across this while sorting through some skating videos I had saved from the past. This was a fluff piece aired by NBC before the rhythm dance at the Olympics last year. It was never published on their website and I can't upload it to YouTube even a year later because of copyright, so it'll just have to live as a Google Drive link.

Re-posting @TanithandBenFan's "breaking news" :D (in the Programs/Choreographers thread) from their pre-Skate America media call today:
Finally some Chock/Bates music news!

RD: Another One Bites the Dust, Who Wants to Live Forever, and I Want it All by Queen
FD: Pink Floyd (theme is time so perhaps they're using the song Time)
Copying out all 4 posts in the thread: https://twitter.com/fsonline/status/1712203501424492839

2023 World Ice Dance Champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates spoke to the media before #SkateAmerica next week in Allen, TX. Their programs for the season will be a Queen RD and a Pink Floyd FD. "The theme of the free dance is time," Chock said.

Chock on the FD: "As our time passes as athletes, and in general, as we have matured as adults & gone through life, we realize how precious time is & how fleeting it can be, especially in sport. And just in general, you really have to cherish the moments you have."

Chock/Bates' Queen RD will include "Another One Bites the Dust," "Who Wants to Live Forever," and "I Want It All." Chock said: "It's a very fun, upbeat, just groovy program that we're super into. Love our costumes, we're very excited to debut the program."

Asked about how long they plan to keep competing, Chock said: "We're taking it season by season, seeing how we feel. But as of right now, we're still very inspired and passionate about skating. And we'll see where that takes us."[/}

Wow. I find Time to be a very grim song so I'm not sure how it's going to translate into a free dance, but I'll try to keep an open mind.
