Boyang Jin cheer thread!

My gut reaction was that Boyang should have been in 2nd or 3rd. Can't wait to see what he can do in the free skate (although I'll still cringe during that wacky old timey music section). His jumps are amazing and he always seems so excited and humble.
 
Yes, looking forward to the long program. His jumps have always been great, but now his programs are so much more interesting. Maybe he'll finish on the podium, but it is crowded at the top.
 
If he can hold it together in the free he might get bronze I would rather him medal than Shoma tbh...my dream podium after the free skate would be
1. Yuzuru
2. Javier
3. Boyang

Oh well, he will just have to win one in China :D But he's happy with his skate so I'm happy too! Congrats on top 4 Boyang :cheer2: Onward towards Milan!

P.S. I hope he really works hard on his PCS (i'm sure he will), 9th best in the FS and almost beaten by Aliev and Messing too :(

I agree, and expect to see Boyang stretch himself artistically going forward. I actually think he's got artistry within him, but it is somewhat limited in range. He needs Shae-Lynne Bourne, who knows how to help skaters access their inner artist. :)

I think he's got more artistry than Elvis Stojko ever did, or more than Elvis Stojko would consider being within his wheelhouse, given that he had that thing about being a 'masculine' skater.

Boyang is not going to be happy with his 4th place finish and I'm sure he wants more than another bronze at Worlds. Especially given that 4CCs gave him a taste of both perfection and being at the top internationally.

Going forward, he and Sui/Han are going to working very hard with their eyes on the prizes of Beijing 2022. And Boyang and Nathan Chen will be battling it out.

I actually think he's grown beyond the Star Wars program already - but do hope he nails it at world.
 
I am sure he is disappointed that he missed the podium, but he should be very proud of himself. He skated two great programs in his very first Olympics, and lost only to exceptional skating performances. I am sure this will motivate him to do even better.

In all seriousness though, he was amazing and I hope he continues to improve over the next quad and goes into Beijing 2022 as a medal favorite! He has beautiful quads and pretty good consistency now, time to start working on improving those components even more! I know he has it in him. This season’s gorgeous SP proves it.

Are you forgetting Shoma? :lol: Shoma almost messed up and gave third place to Boyang, but Shoma pulled it together & the judges lost their minds and gave Shoma silver, pushing Javi to bronze, cuz Javi popped his third quad. :drama: :COP:

Boyang has improved a great deal. He's a wonderful athlete. A great jumper and a good learner. He's not musical though, and he's not unique creatively, not at this point anyway. Boyang is lucky his choreographer worked with Nathan Chen, and brought some of that Nathan collaboration to the rink to brainstorm ideas for Boyang.

I did indeed for a moment there! :confused: :D

Because I kind of forget already that he won a medal :scream:

He is one of those who just doesn't wow me, I guess, though I appreciate his skills. Same goes for Hanyu. While certainly a deserving two time OGMedalist, to me, he is just a machine who has some human moments every once in a while. His programs have never moved me.

As they say, there's no accounting for taste.

Boyang is going to have to step up his game to contend with Shoma and Chen for top spot on the podium. I assume he knows this, and expect to see him show up with a more mature look next season, and perhaps more classical-type programs.

But given that he's already stepped up his game and committed to improving his artistry, there is no reason to think he will not continue to do so. Of equal importance, he's shown that he can deliver under pressure. I think he actually thrives on competition.

In fact, I would not be surprised to see him transform in the next few seasons - much as Kevin Reynolds did when he discovered that rock music worked so beautifully for him.

I'll add that Japan #3 man just became one of my new most favorite men. Just a gut response, not based on anything in particular.

It seems that my favorite men are often Japanese (particularly Takeshi Honda, Machida, and to a lesser extent, Takahashi - go figure why). Hence my user name. :)

Honda's performances to Don Quixote and Aranjuez at the 2002 Olympics remain two of my favorite performances of all time. IMO, Takeshi epitomizes the musical skater.
