Amazing Race starting January 3rd

I'll still watch since I have from the beginning, but I'm hoping they've returned back to the serious competition type of editing rather than everything being so cheesy and.. 'family friendly' I guess? Bring back Team Guido over anything I saw the entire last season.

I'm hoping since these are all pre-existing relationships, we won't see as much of the 'I have to be nice and sweet with you because I don't really know you'. For me, it wasn't exciting television and the winners (well at least half :)) were awful.

I've found the last few seasons so not-exciting that I have pretty much reached the point where I watch the first episode and the finale, and don't bother with anything in-between.

The air dates are seriously screwy so make sure to set your timers to pick up all the episodes. Its not on every week. :(

Too bad they couldn't have held the taping until after the Olympics because hello Team Shib Sibs! I would LOVE to see them do The Amazing Race! :p How do we make that happen for next season?!

Ain't gonna happen unless/until they quit skating entirely. I'm sure their insurance prohibits anything that dangerous.

I want to be excited, but am dreading it cause I can't stand the Big Brother couple and am mad I have to watch them to watch TAR. (like with Rob and Amber of Survivor - had to stomach them through multiple TAR seasons!, ugh)

TAR!! Woohoo!! Team Goat Yoga already having the drama. :scream:

Anyone else watching?

Thanks for the reminder. I need to go set the DVR up now.

(Finally, a benefit to being on the west coast.)

Good start.
Team Big Brother - did well - they have potential. How did Cody get the name/ letter challenge so quickly - He may be wicked smart and due to his introvert nature - doesn't show it much.
Also I read an article online - can't remember where - they are still together.
Goat Yoga Ladies - ugh - so nasty in first episode. Wish they were gone.
Team of Champion Hot Dog Eaters - I would worry the physical exertion could cause a heart attack.
Team Yale - love that they are nerds, but also competitive so far.
Overall looks like some good competitive teams.
Glad it is back.
But looking at the next 2 months - I am going to be watching to much tv - US Nats this weekend, hopefully Europeans and or 4 CCs, various award shows, Olympics then Oscars.

Looks like a promising season. Love that the only gimmick is that the teams can be classified as competitors in some way.

Was watching skating and my DVR didn't get it. I hate it that they keep changing the show title to make it unique. Why not leave it as The Amazing Race, tag it as new, then let the DVR services do their thing?

In case you didn't know - go to cbs.com - it is usually available the next day.

I was a little confused about Team Yale - I thought they were keeping the fact they were from Yale a secret when the were talking at the beginning but if it is in your team name it is not much of a secret.
Poor Goat Yoga lady making her partner cry on the first day of competition.
And they have to switch partners as some point as a twist - have they done that before?

Not impressed. Don’t like the gimmick, the stunt casting, the teams. There was exactly one team I could tolerate; that guarantees they get eliminated soon. I think the show has truly jumped the shark.

I like the gimmick, as far as gimmicks go, as it at least makes sense for the show, and I thought all the teams were okay and some were potentially entertaining or interesting. I was actually looking forward to the season until the previews. Switching partners? Just no.

Haven't had a chance to watch the premiere yet but looking forward to seeing it tonight! We have a tradition of having pizza & beer for the first and last TAR episodes of the season. It's crazy how much we enjoy this show. :)

Just finished watching the first episode. I may or may not have fallen asleep halfway through (alright, I totally did). Not impressed, but I'll take anything over social media celebrities...

Agreed. I couldn't catch the frist episode, so had recorded it to watch later. As soon as I found out that this season's "twist" is switching partners, I deleted it without watching it. I think I'm pretty much done with this show, as I was already down to watching just the first & last episodes of the season.
I might consider watching again if they would cut it back to 1 season a year (instead of the current two) and concentrate on making a good quality show with good casting, instead of stupid gimmicky casting and ridiculous "twists" that are totally unnecessary for a good game.

I watched the first episode and enjoyed it. Then I saw the previews including the partner switch. Yuck! But I will continue to watch hoping that the switch is just for one task or one leg. We'll see.

I really enjoyed the first episode. Also not happy about the partner switch, but we’ll see!

I don't recall partner switches at all. It's been 29 seasons, so if it happened maybe I just forgot. I do recall the intersection, where a team had to work together with another team. Kind of irrelevant, because that was the season when almost every task had an alliance working together.

If they switch partners for one challenge, fine. If they switch partners for more than that, I will write a strongly worded post complaining about it. :soapbox:

I haven't seen enough yet to know who to like. Although those bickering girls (were they the Yoga girls?) were getting on my nerves. Lesson learned to keep your mouth shut if you are not the Team member doing a challenge. I kinda yelled at the TV "hey you can't do that!" when Basketball guy said the thing about the letters and forgot about penalty times so glad they got one just because .... hey you can't do that!

I don't like the sound of the partner switch thing. Although with as much as people "team up" and help each other with tasks, there's almost no difference. :P

TAR is now the only "reality TV contest show" that i regularly watch and look forward to. I finally had time to watch it! I take time from work to do it! Each season i "hope and hope and hope" there are interesting locations and real challenges which test survival skills, cleverness/social skills with foreigners, orientation/location/navigation, adaptability, knowledge of geography, languages, logic and deductive reasoning, etc.... But most of the challenges in the last 2-3 seasons are (sorry) TOTAL CRAP! they have nothing to do with complexities of travel and survival in a foreign land, and are there to "consume/occupy time" and to give contestants some physical activity, not exactly specific to the essential and critical elements of a given country and culture..

The challenges in Iceland were RIDICULOUS. It is extremely difficult to get lost on Iceland highways, so "driving, who is first" is not an issue. There are 2 roads from the airport.... to town, then pass it to northern circular highway, and south/SE to BL Hot springs.... Why are they showing people "lost" on the road in a hurry to the challenge? What's the high-rope challenge? is it special to Iceland? neeeeeeooo. Running up to people asking about fish-liver-extract and vodka, how challenging is that... step to the side, ask, and that's it... Etc.... There are so many elements specific to Iceland they could have used for more COMPLEX AND INTERESTING challenges. Darn them.

While I did like the homage to the World's Strongest Man tradition in Iceland, it would have been more interesting if they had to do a mini-version of one of the events from a WSM competition.
