2026 Olys Pairs SP PBP - Veni, Vidi, Wedgie

Miura/Kihara post-SP interview:
Kihara: Um, well, it wasn't an "acceptable/good" mistake. I don't know what happened. Well, things happen. Despite a huge mistake, we were able to keep the scores above 70. Ah, so we're 5th. 3rd group. (he looked really deflated here) Do our best tomorrow. Look forward and deliver. It's not over. There are things we can do.

Miura: (on the mistake on the lift) I can't say much since we haven't checked the video. We just didn't know what had happened. All I can say now is that it was not what we were always doing. Lifts are done under the timing of two skaters. I think it went a little bit off. That's why it failed.
I so admire the way Riku and Ryuchi support each other. We've seen him comfort/support her many times in the past; but, today, he was absolutely devastated (both on the ice at the end and also in the K/C) and the look of concern for him on her face was so real and touching. She had to be so disappointed too but she was putting his feelings above her own. She's a very tiny woman but she's very strong. I really like her a lot. Hope they can come out tomorrow and skate lights out.

It's completely expected for there to be more problems in the FS compared to the SP since it's twice as long and has way more jumps/throws/lifts. Skaters who can get through a 2 min SP may have stamina issues in the FS. Skaters with inconsistent jumps/throw/lifts may be able to get through the few in the SP cleanly most of the time, but more elements mean more opportunities for things to go wrong.

I don't know why people are constantly surprised that there are more falls in the FS.
 Not surprised. My comment wasn't that deep ;)

That doesn't say it's a deduction though? It says it's a possible reduction in level, which did not happen, but that's not a deduction.
I don't recall using either word but if I did (reduction or deduction) the end result is the same ie... you lose points. I did mention how Sandra, when Kurt mentioned it was called a L4, assumed they didn't see it then which would imply Sandra would have been expecting a drop in level 🤷 Wasn't the main point habs was making is your head can't touch the ice and people were questioning that as a rule?

Habs asked if there should have been a deduction and I said I didn’t think it was a deduction.

I didn’t question it as a rule? I didn’t like it was a deduction.

I’m not being pedantic. It’s certainly possible someone could think it counted as a fall and was therefore a deduction, so that’s what I thought habs meant.

Ellie Kam - improved and in all a very successful Olympic debut. I wonder if someone like Megen D. worked with her on throws she would "get it". Megan can be difficult but maybe she could drill Ellie into becoming tougher and more reliable.

Thought I should mention the post skate interview for the Australians on the coverage here in.

Anastasia and Hektor were very happy with their skate and have thoroughly enjoyed the whole Olympic experience. They were also very realistic about the difficulty of making it to the FS as they have had a very rough season, which also included Anastasia's citizenship issues and the injury. Just getting onto the ice was a major achievement.

It is great so see that they were in the right headspace in regards to what they felt was reasonable to achieve and I think had a very healthy mentality.

Having been following them on social media, they have also just been taking in the experience and enjoying themselves. Very pleased for them. Now that it is done they can reset and think about the future.

I also can't help but think Anastasia's experience of moving to Australia to skate has been positive. Hektor's family have looked after her and been a great support. She has fitted in well to Australian skating which for me is most important because of her environment. We want happy skaters.
