2025 US Nats Womens FS PBP - Wiches, I Am Coming For All Your Medals

All we need is a certain poster to suddenly pay for these parts of the board to now come in here and go on a tangent about how 'clearly people never learned to read' and everyone is just dumb, and we'd have the full circle of an FSU thread completed.

Alysa has the performance of the evening. I would’ve put it first but I’m OK with her being right behind Amber.
Seeing that she botched the closing spin, I'm okay with it too. I was hoping she would win because I feel like this is going to put such tremendous pressure on Amber going into Worlds, but if Amber wins Worlds (which I think is a very real possibility given the way Kaori's been skating this season, plus the FS not being a good fit for her stylistically) then she's going to be under even greater pressure next season, so maybe it's better that she start facing those sort of insane expectations at Worlds.

Yes, I'm meaning to be condescending. Alysa still got much more lenient calls than what she would have gotten internationally and you're out here trying to imply that the fix is in.
Right, and? You’ll have to fill me in on what I’ve been implying other than that the calls for Alysa hinged on whether Amber skated well given Alysa’s generous calls in the short.

I’m still not sure where this hostility is coming from as I’m pro Amber and wanted her to win, and I’ve been pro Amber for years and haven’t enjoyed Alysa’s skating until this season.

Even I am, and I love Alysa. Amber needs to go to Boston as champion to have a prayer of winning…her jumps are (usually) cleaner than Alysa’s and she’s got that 3A.

If Alysa can get the 3A back and continue to gain speed and stamina, she might well be champion going to the Olys next year.

But watching Alysa puts a little bit of joy in my world. I don’t mind Sarah’s bronze because she’s better than Bradie and many years younger and she can hopefully gain some musicality and interpretation.

I agree that if Isabeau is healthy, Sarah will have to settle for 4Cs. She’s past Jr Worlds at this stage.

If Isabeau is seriously injured, there’s a very small window of time for her to be medically cleared to resume training. By my calculations, she would need to be cleared in the next couple of weeks to build back to two a days then taper for Worlds. I hope USFS makes sure she can do that SAFELY if they consider her petition.

I don't think that's really true? There have been plenty of world champs who didn't win nats and then came back roaring at worlds. If it were ice dance, she'd need it. But Amber has all the rep she needs. If she skates well, the judges will reward her.

I'm not sure I really understand all the negative comments--there are a lot of falls at Nationals. Nationals is a pressure cooker in most countries--someone earlier said something about what would the Japanese think, but did y'all see the s-show that was the men's in Japan? :yikes: CANADIAN LADIES ANYONE?!! By comparison, the Americans are skating pretty damn well so far, and a lot better than some Nationals. I mean, there have been years where all the medalists fell at least twice and skated like they were scared of the ice. At least none of the medalist had programs that completely broke apart or were unwatchable. Mistakes yes. Complete meltdowns, no.

I wish I could remember who said this, but I remember an interview where the skater being interviewed (maybe Tiffany Scott?) said Nationals was her least favorite event of the season because at international competitions, you're there as a team and your coach is there for you but at Nationals it's all individual, every man for himself, no one is saying great job, good luck, and if you skate with a lot of skaters from other countries, they aren't there. I'm sure for Japanese ladies now and back in the day Russian anything and waay back in the day American women and Canadian pairs, it was easier to win Worlds than their respective nationals.

Amber I swear seems like the nicest person ever, but she needs to maybe be less nice. Like, she kinda looks like she wants to apologize to Alysa and seems slightly embarrassed instead of saying MUHHH MEDAL. MUUHH TRIPLE AXEL. MUHH SMOOTH LIKE BUTTAH TRIPLE AXEL. SUCK IT, LOSERS.

I can confirm that she is extremely kind and pretty much exactly as she comes across here. To the point it doesn't surprise me that she seems to have major imposter syndrome.
