2025 GPF Ice Dance Rhythm Dance -“Are you gonna slow my way?”

Mark's telling us that the tech panel isn't being kind to ZingKol.

That’s why dance for me has no credibility so the tech panel was kind at cup of China, which got them a silver medal and then in the last six weeks their skils has regressed? Because unlike in singles, there were no falls, no under rotations, which could understandably land them in a lower position. I totally understand what the ice dancers are saying.

Now look at that mug shot of Paul… Couldn’t you just?

A plea to anyone who has an inside line to Piper and Paul. For the love of god please bring some colour and a new desing concept for 2026.

I see from photos they are still wearing the white costumes and from a few comments really seem to think they are THE right costumes for this RD. They just aren't. The white, for one, just washes you both out that you fade into the ice. Google colour psychology and pick a more energetic vibrant colour to really do your RD justice. I just don't get this choice, especially from someone ( Piper ) who has a very unique style that isn't afraid of colour that actually works for her. Someone said it's from some Ru Paul video but if that is the case it's too specific a reference that it is just not landing with those of us who don't get the reference. You are more than likely going to be skating back to back with F/G in 2026 so trust me, you need to pivot.

They are not retiring after this?

I think their costumes are good for this year’s rhythm dance, I think they reference the 90s and the genre really good.

I always like their costumes, they’ve never bored me once with their costumes.

But 2026? I’d be surprised.

The Olympics are in 2026, I want them to change them for the Olympics, in 2026 ;)

I’ve not had time to read through the PBP and uncover all the “whys” therein, but ChoBat looked the slowest of all, yet didn’t seem to get dinged in their PCS score. As much as I love watching ice dance, I f’ing hate judged ice dance.

A total vibe in this program and I'm completely buying it, but he IMO is really moving like he's ready to retire and his body is just barely hanging on. So much more wooden and almost lock-kneed than he ever was before. It's not going to affect the levels if he isn't wobbling all over his blade, but the movement just isn't what it once was.
Makes you think that the 'corset' part of his costume is a disguised back brace.

Even though I hate Lenny Kravitz, I love that C/B went in a more rock direction - they really stand out among all the pop cliches that other teams went with which feel reaaally tired by the middle of the season. I'm so glad they're in first - I want them to win the big O so bad!!!

French team are fine but this program always feels like it's wearing them rather than the other way around.

G/P - interesting idea on paper but this program has never really worked all season. It's a little too self conscious, trying too hard, Paul and Piper feel so tonally different in the expression. And what is with all the hair grabbing - is that from the music video or something? Feels super gimmicky and lame.

F/G - cute but a juniorish program - great energy and theme but fourth is about right here based on the program and skating skills.

R/A - love them but skating wise they're a bit over their heads in this field.

Z/K - did not understand this score - they should have been closer to Fear/G and Canadians.

Just catching up. Boy was I glad to hear to Mark and Ted's voices.
I kind of miss Chris' positivity. Mark and Ted are too much the same in their strengths and weaknesses. Mark and Chris would be better, IMO.

TBH, I don't think the tech panel should be able to overrule AI, at least not without unanimous consent.
What if the AI is wrong? I mean, computers aren't magic. There are bugs and mistakes in programming.

Makes you think that the 'corset' part of his costume is a disguised back brace.
But last year he had a bare back. So if there is a back issue, it has to be new.

I'm okay with the top 2 results. I thought C/B were the most proficient; Cizeron and his lackey are overrated.
F-B/C's vogue is kind of meh IMO. And their FD bores me as much as P/C's similar FDs did. It's not all about skating skills. There are other factors being scored here.

Just watched the replay. Have to say I enjoyed it all. I am just not enough of a techie to pick anything apart. One thing I know, as a long (long) time watcher of ice dance, the push was to make ice dance enjoyable for audiences. Been going on for years. Take a team like Bourne/Kraatz...maybe not as technically proficient as some others of their time, but man did the audiences love them. I know I did. And overall there was a push to make all the skating interesting again and draw bigger audiences. The 90s were a huge boom for skating, ironically because of a scandal. But it sure made some money. The judging scandal of 2002 was a blow to skating. So they came up with IJS.

Anyway, the point is to make skating popular and draw audiences, it's about engaging skaters. Skaters that audiences want to cheer for and give standing Os. For some of you prickly folks on FSU, this doesn't always set well. I know you won't change your opinions but I, for one, am glad to see fun programs and also beautiful lines (like F-B/C.)

I thought that was a fun event and I really enjoyed listening to Ted and Mark. As for one of my opinions...I really enjoyed Z/K and look forward to seeing them win Olympic Gold (in the future). Cause it's going to happen. :)

Thanks for sharing, the video is helpful. The comments also highlight the single axel that got them the deduction.

This level of extreme tech calling feels inline with the calls at Finlandia, but I doubt there will be any sort of uproar as stated by other posters earlier.

I was just listening to Jackie’s recap and he seemed incredibly confused by the calls.

I pretty much agree with @ANL’s placements. I would have had Piper and Paul in 3rd with Zingas & Kolesnik 4th. Don’t get their scores relative to others at all. Z&K seemed to have among the highest difficulty with transitions, speed etc. New kids on the block penalty? I don’t see what the mistake was in the above video… maybe someone can explain?

F&G RD not working for me and the stiffness in her body and lack of ability to straighten her knees is just a no. I find them very likable so nothing against them at all. His skating is excellent.

FB/C rhythm dance has more armography and knee sliding than actual skating transitions, I keep hearing Adam Rippon saying “get up off your knees and skate” in my head 😉 Somehow I find them very pretentious and not genuinely themselves. Which is why I do find the Brits so likable, even though their skating (her) bugs me. Yes love their flow and glide (when not on their knees) but I don’t see as much transitional difficulty as others.

C&B may seem slower at times but they pack in the transitions and great lifting and partnering skills. And nobody performs like Maddie.

Still have a feeling FB/C will win the FD, but we will see!

Just catching up … what stood out to me with Chock/Bates today was they didn’t look afraid and they just really performed the program. I think their experience and confidence carried them. Most of the other teams looked nervous and like they were quite afraid of getting an edge wrong (not that I blame them, with the judging lately). FB/C looked cautious and slower than at previous events and, to me, there is a disconnect in this program in their levels of expression. Great GPF debut for Z/K, aside from that unfortunate deduction call. R/A looked the most comfortable to me, aside from C/B.
