2025-26 U.S. Ice Dance News, Updates & Discussion - Backstreet Boys & Spice Girls

Probably so. But I don't think they can win gold. And with the scores so far, I am starting to think that US Champions might be slipping away, too. Z/K and CarPon are right on their heels, nipping away. Just a feeling I have. I don't think it's a lock, at all.

C/B always look a little rough at the start of the season, but they’ve shown they know how to put in the work to peak when the time is right. Something catastrophic would have to happen for them to not win Nationals when they have a very strong chance at not just the Olympic podium but Olympic gold.

Unless they completely fall apart (including falling), there is absolutely ZERO chance of U.S. Figure Skating sending their 3-time and reigning World Champions to the Olympics as anything other than national champions.
We'll see, I guess. I don't think there is a zero chance. After 40+ years of following skating, nothing is absolute.

Update from Michael Parsons regarding his injury at CoC -

I hope he heals up well.

I think USFS is going to get behind Z/K. They're the future. Not to say that they will beat Chock/Bates--because seriously, that's not happening--but that they are being positioned for the next quad. C/P are, too, but if she doesn't get citizenship soon then Olympics are out and Z/K will get the major push as the second-best American team.

This is probably Green/Parsons' last chance. He's already 30 and he's becoming overwhelmed with injuries. She's a lot younger at 22, so she could potentially seek out a new partnership in the next quad.

I do not want to see the Shibs come back. At all. US Ice Dance has been on the upswing for a while now and we don't need teams coming back to mess things up. Not that I think they will. They are old news and for that matter, so are C/B. I think C/B are very nice people and I think they need to get on with life. Why not go out on top? Like the Italian team of G/F...why would they invite that humiliation? I miss the old days of skaters retiring after achieving their goals. Course that was when you didn't get paid as an amateur and show skating in the 90s was the hot ticket. How things have changed.
I agree with you 100%. I think it's time for C/B to leave and make room for the newer teams. I loved Z/K ... they felt like a breath of fresh air (even with the warhorse Romeo and Juliet). I loved watching their flow and edges, something C/B sorely lack as a team. Ice dance is so much more than acrobatic lifts.

I don't understand all of these posts proclaiming that Chock & Bates should leave already. They are the 3-time & reigning World Champions - it's not like they are barely cracking the Top 10 at World's and hanging on long past their prime. It's fairly obvious that the World Champions the year before the Olympics will stick around for a few more months to compete in the Olympics in any discipline. And they will very likely retire after the Olympics, maybe even before the World Championships

Oh, 100% this is happening. Just wait until AboVes are old enough for seniors, just in time for the 2029-30 season.
Should Abo/Ves remain together, he has citizenship, no major injuries and they continue improving I don’t think we will need to ask anyone to retire. They will rocket to the top. But that’s a long way out and a lot of ifs.

I don’t see Chock/Bates losing this Nationals but if they stay in, definitely 2027. However, that’s a moot point as I’m 99.9% sure they are done after this season.

It’s an Olympic season. Let’s wait until after Olympics to ask anyone to retire. They work their entire lives for this.

I do think CPom and Zk are likely the top teams for the next quad for the US though unless we get any new surprises.

Right?! They’re 100 DAYS from potential Olympic glory and people are suggesting they need to quit. I mean, come on. 🙄 🙄 I’m not a G/F or Piper/Paul fan, but I’d never expect them to call it a day at this point in the game. All three teams have worked their asses off for a very long time for an individual Olympic medal. This is their time and it’s ridiculous to think any of them would relinquish that for anyone else. And this comes from a HUGE Z/K and Green/Parsons fan who would be over the moon to see both at the Olympics.

It's decidedly awkward to see the Ralph Lauren and Delta posts pop up from them after gestures with the certain knowledge that not a thing will be said or done about what we all know now.

SOI has announced cast members for this spring's shows. I'm sure they will add more later, but the Shibs are not on the list. (Chock and Bates are.) I have no idea if the leaked practice video had anything to do with that. It may just be that, unlike Ralph Lauren and Delta, SOI had a better sense that the Shibs might very well not make the Olympic team, much less medal.

Exactly. That's why I don't see C/P losing support from USFS.
Me either, and I don't see them losing support from IAM. This week is going to be interesting, but I expect that Marie-France and Scott will ensure that CarPon's GP score is equal if not higher than what ZingKol scored last week at CoC.

2027-28 season. :P She has a May birthday and will turn 17 in 2027.

And Marie-Universe has LaLa and the Litvaks to worry about this week as well as CPom. It's hard to have conflicting clients.
Not really - in this case, the Litvaks are the lowest priority. M-F will want to ensure that CarPon are still viewed as the US #2. I've always figured that CarPon were likely slotted in for bronze this week behind LajLag, but M-F will want them scoring pretty close to each other and she'll want them scoring at least equal if not better than whatever ZingKol scored last week at CoC.

Can we at least pretend what happens on the ice matters.. 😅
It absolutely does. You have to show up with decent to great material consistently to advance - one bad season when you're still scrapping and clawing your way upward and you can fall fast.
