2023 U.S. Nationals in San Jose

Well, just kill me now. I just looked at the Peacock schedule published in October and it appears they aren't showing any of the Junior events and not even all of the Championship level events. I can't even find any info on perhaps showing Jr. level events on FanZone but I'm also not very good at finding anything on the U. S. Figure Skating website.

I'm sure the junior events will show up in Peacock in a couple of weeks closer to the competition. Peacock showed all of the junior and senior events from Sectionals/Pairs & Dance Finals.

Yes they did show them. The schedule published in October doesn't list anything until January 27 (Jr. start Jan. 24). In the announcement they mention the Women's FS and a couple of other comps and nothing about any of the rest. I am certainly hoping that you are correct because Nationals is my favorite competition

That schedule probably isn't correct. The problem will be if they're only shown live that some of them will be very very late if you're not on the Pacific Coast. The junior RD ends at 1am EST and the junior FD ends at 2:25am.

Some of you seem much more optimistic about US figure skating and peacock than I would be. They’ve already proved that false advertising is their strong point.

All the Junior events will be livestreamed on Peacock - usually all the viewing times will be published closer to the event.

Yes, that will be a problem, sigh. I will make some inquiries...

The broadcast contract with NBC/Peacock includes all junior and senior events at Nats. We've seen before that Peacock doesn't always publish the full schedule initially and then it gets revised right before the event and everything shows up.
Given past experience, we’ll be lucky if NBC updates its Peacock and broadcast schedules by the 23rd.

Given past experience just this season, I would anticipate that Peacock will have all of the events available to save to "My Stuff" a week or 10 days ahead of Nationals. They had the GPF tiles up a solid week ahead.

Supposedly the contract also had replay on demand..... Doesn't appear either side cares about the contract.

I think USFS cares (at least the people I know who are involved with USFS do) but, AFAIK, NBC Universal is calling the shots re. no replays on Peacock this season.

Anyway, this has been thoroughly hashed over in the “Peacock Subscription Discount” thread in the TV Alerts subforum if anyone wishes to keep going…

Back to the logistics of attending Nationals in San Jose & the crazy small bag policy!

For all the good it will do, I emailed USFS asking them to intervene with SAP regarding an exception to the bag policy for Nationals. Clearly, their policy is designed with a concert or one night sporting event in mind. At the end of the day, whatever decision is made, it needs to happen before "shortly before the event."

For the relocated 2021 Nationals, the SAP policy was the more reasonable clear 12x6x12 stadium bag size.
Belated thanks for emailing (did you ever get a response @beebee?). I just called the SAP Center's general # and, at the end of our conversation, the person mentioned that sometimes their bag policy has been modified for "family events."

So it's clear to me that someone high up (enough) at USFS would need to "persuade" the arena to modify their current bag size policy of 5" x 9" x 2" for 2023 Nationals attendees.

So who do we email at USFS?

Heads up: rates at some of the downtown hotels have dropped. The Westin is back in the $200s and the Four Points Sheraton downtown has dropped below $200. Marriott still very high, though. I only checked the Marriott hotels but other hotel chains may have dropped, too.

For those who are not seasoned Nationals attendees. The San Jose arena is cold - especially if you sit close. If you are thinking that because San Jose has mild temperatures, you do not need to bring your warm winter stuff - think again. Also, the Sharks arena (practice arena) is one of the coldest arenas I have ever been in - in all the years San Jose has had Nationals. It is one of those stand up, do a dance, jump up and down to stay warm arenas. Come prepared.

Finally, the stairs in the SAP are monster - steep, tall, and they go on forever. Be forewarned.

All very true!

So if anyone is flying Delta to or from the event and will be flying home no later than 31 January and would like a free drink coupon so while you’re on the plane you can get an alcoholic drink please private message me an email address. I will take a screenshot and send them to people as long as they last I’ve got about 10 I think that expire January 31 and I won’t be using them so I might as well give them away
