2022 Skate America

SCOB will offer an all-event parking pass for SKAM, subject to availability, but expect it to be pricey given scarcity. There will also be a free shuttle between the University Station T parking lot and SCOB. Parking at the T station is cheap ($7 weekdays, $3 weekends).

$180 for parking in The Club's lot with in and out privileges
$135 for parking in the 846 University Avenue Parking lot immediately adjacent to SCOB

I emailed The Skating Club of Boston to ask about shuttle buses for the nearby hotels & the response was that they were only providing a shuttle for Route 128. The Skating Club of Boston did provide shuttle buses from the official hotels for the International Classic last season. They ran regularly, from practices to medal ceremonies. The audience for that event was less than 1/2-full. I don’t know why The Skating Club of Boston has decided not to provide shuttles for this sold-out event.

I wrote back, urging that shuttle buses be provided for hotels. If any of you agree, please consider sending an email to The Skating Club of Boston asking for shuttle service for hotels. Thanks

What are the official hotels?

And for future reference, I'm also curious to know which hotels were stops for SCOB's shuttle at the time of 2021 U.S. Classic?

What's around the arena? For those of us who won't have cars, and ahem accidentally booked a hotel in Canton, is it feasible to just hang around that area in between practices/events?

There’s a shopping area with a Target and a bunch of other stores/eateries 1.5 miles from the arena. Maps says it’s a 30 minute walk.

There's a golf course between the Skating Club and the Shopping Center, which must be walked around. I don't recall from my last visit to SCOB the walking conditions. I do remember busy highways. Try a Google Map.

Universe Avenue appears to have a sidewalk and there are some shops/restaurants 1.5 miles from the rink.

They probably aren't providing shuttles because it's not cost effective. At this point with under 3 weeks to go I would say just accept that it is what it is and plan accordingly

There are multiple major strip malls with a lot of restaurants and food choices. Also, there is a huge Wegmans (supermarket) with many food takeout options. I also think that you meant University Avenue.

Got that same email and my thing moved to shift approval so hoping that is good news? although not paying $180 for parking it would be cheaper to uber from the other side of Boston lol

Nice! Did you have to take the SafeSport training course and pay them for a background check? These things are new and the $30 for a background check, which they have done before, turns me off a bit.

Finally booked our flights and hotel stay. Flying in Tuesday, leaving the following Monday. I’m still thinking of how to make sure Mr. Thvu has a good time, other than being like “bring your Switch, feel free to take breaks and walk around.“ I want to go to the practices, but I don’t see how he’ll be able to last more than an hour.

Drop him off at the commuter train, and he can go into Boston and spend the day. Newport, RI is only an hour's drive south. He can go visit Plymouth and Cape Cod. There should be a lot for him to do.

So, I haven't posted in a while but I'm here to say I'm still planning to go to Skate America! I've been through a lot in the past several months. In May, I had surgery to remove a mass in my colon. Turns out it was worse than the doctors originally thought, so I've been on chemotherapy for the past 3 months. I'm halfway there! My oncologist has cleared me to travel, so if I still feel up to it I'll be in Norwood. I have to be careful, so I'll be masked up and double boosted. I'm doing my best to keep living while dealing with cancer. I don't want to miss out on another skating event!

I hope you feel better and stay on the up and up. Prayers and positive thoughts to you

I called the Hampton Inn-Norwood where many of us are staying. On their website they mention a shuttle to the railway station. I asked if they would let the shuttle take guests to the SCOB. The woman told me the shuttle has been discontinued and there are no plans to bring it back. 😢

Looking forward to seeing many old friends in Norwood!
I considered volunteering, but, for those still awaiting responses, got an email on Sept 23rd that my request wasn't approved. I think I only requested ice monitoring and media/translation, so assume all those spots were filled by SCoB/USFS members. My friend Ilya was assigned a locker room attendant duty, but declined it due to late response and is going on vacation instead 😆
