January 29, 2025 press release - Skate Canada Announces Locations for 2025 Skate Canada International & 2026 Canadian National Skating Championships:
Last held in Saskatoon in 2001, Skate Canada International will return to the prairies this fall from October 31 to November 2, 2025. Hosted at SaskTel Centre, Saskatchewan’s go-to destination for sports and entertainment, the event will attract some of the best skaters from Canada and around the world as they compete at the third stop on the annual International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating series.
After a sold-out event in Laval this January, the Canadian National Championships will return to Quebec in 2026. Taking place from January 5-11, 2026, the event will be held at Gatineau’s Centre Slush Puppie, a new state-of-the-art sport facility. The week-long event will feature the top skaters from across Canada and will mark the city of Gatineau’s first time hosting the National Championships. The event will culminate with the announcement of the athletes who will represent Team Canada at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Italy.

100% going to go to Canadian Nationals in Gatineau!! Driving distance or could take train, with a free place to stay with tons of family in Ottawa! Thinking about Skate Canada in Saskatoon too, never been to SK so can check off another province on my list!! So excited for the Olympic season!! :cheer2:

I literally just had a conversation with a friend who was surprised that I didn't go to Nationals this year, and I said Montreal was farther than I wanted to drive (especially in the winter), but I would have gone if it had been just a tiny bit closer, like Ottawa or Gatineau. I guess Skate Canada called my bluff on this one, so now I have to go!

Seriously considering attending in Gatineau ... with hubby to boot. Could be fun.
Does anyone know yet, when tickets go on sale?

Thanks in advance for any information about Canadian Nats for 2026.

The best way to get early information is to put yourself on the Skate Canada e-mail list - the link was in their press release/announcement.

I have no excuse not to go, we are always at relatives the first week of January in the Ottawa valley, both sides of the river. Laval was a bit far from there last year, Gatineau, I’d have no excuse. Need to see ticket prices I guess.

Is anyone planning on going to Saskatoon? I haven't missed a SC since 2002, other than a pandemic one, but the arena isn't downtown, and I'm not sure where would be best to stay re transit and such.

I'd like to, depending on my work schedule. When SC was last in Saskatoon we rented a car and drove to and from the arena from downtown.

There are a couple of hotels within walking distance of the arena

Yes I'll be there. I'll post some hotel links that are close to the rink and transit etc.

Transit: https://transit.saskatoon.ca/plan-my-trip/popular-destinations
Sasktel Centre

Hotels? pm me. The closest hotel is the comfort inn and suites on Bill Hunter Ave. There are a couple of restaurants close and a costco. Sasktel Centre is on the edge of the city. The Sheraton, the Bessborough and the James are all downtown. The Travelodge, a Country Inn, and a few hotels on airport Drive are close but not really walkable.

The only time I've been to Saskatoon was for Canadians in 2009 (I think), but I remember that transit was pretty easy to the arena. Can't remember where we stayed, though - it wasn't downtown. Won't be going this time - other travel priorities in the fall.

Thinking about attending in Gatineau, renting a room in a hotel because the cab fares from Ottawa would be expensive too and January weather is always a crapshoot.

Won’t confirm before the fall though.
