2022 Olympic FS Team Event delayed medal ceremony - updates

There better be details soon. If it is August 7, as Brennan (?) wrote, I would be there in Paris, but I would need to organize a ticket for that somehow (have a morning ticket ;):summer::fan::COP:for that day)

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but if the ceremony for figure skaters were to be announced for Aug 7 (which was date specified by Brennan), I think it likely would be at Champions Park?
Big disclaimer that I do not know whether it would be necessary to sign up in advance for a free ticket to Champions Park*, but:
"... Champions Park will be accessible to everyone—and free! ... Capacity: 13,000 per day ...
Champions Park will be located in Trocadéro Gardens, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. ...
Every day at Champions Park will be marked by the celebration of the previous day’s medal winners. They will be invited to take part in a parade and meet members of the public ..."
FWIW, according to schedule at link above, on Aug 7 (and most but not all other days), 17h45: Celebration of medal-winning athletes.
(Other fun stuff will be happening at Champions Park too.)
ETA:
*I now see that the page below says that for Champions Park, a reservation is not needed (scroll down at left).
But I would guess that to get a good viewing spot, arriving early for the athlete celebrations would be smart, as suggested by this image:

FWIW, for some athletes from other sports, Champions Park will be the site of a medal reallocation ceremony on Aug 9.

That is an incredibly useful article on reallocated medals, @ice coverage. I don't know if the FS medals are considered reallocated since they were never awarded in the first place, but the notes at the bottom of the page make me increasingly concerned that it won't happen at the Paris Games for the skaters:

Before Olympic medals can be reallocated, every athlete must be given due process and all legal proceedings need to be exhausted. Only then can the IOC EB decide on the Olympic medal reallocation. Once approved, the athlete, along with their respective National Olympic Committee, can choose which option they would like to proceed with in order to receive their deserved reward.

I got an invitation from the olympics site (presumably as I am a ticket holder) that said „secure your seat at Champions Park“, I registered and will hear back by July 15. But good to know that maybe I can go there regardless of that seat allocation.

This is what the e-mail said:
From 29 July to 10 August, Paris 2024 invites you to Champions Park to celebrate the heroes of the Paris 2024 Games in the Trocadéro gardens, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.

It is in this exceptional setting that the Club is offering you the chance to secure the best seats and exclusive access to the Paris 2024 Club gallery. Come and cheer on medal-winning athletes from all over the world as they celebrate their achievements with you! Seats are free and open to all.

… I just hope there is a ruling issued by CAS regarding the bronze medals in time for the Canadian skaters to participate as well.

ROMAN HEADS TO PARIS!?

Looking forward to August 7 for at least the gold & silver medals presentation.

I'm pretty over the Roman-slamming. He was the one who managed to secure the second slot for Canadian men at the Olympics, and after placing second at nationals was named to the Olympic Team. Because Keegan caught Covid, Roman had to compete both segments of the team event. Nerves overtook him, but he competed. Had Roman not qualified a second man for the Olympics, Canada might not have had any shot at a medal in the team event with Keegan's absence. He went on to finish 12th at Worlds that year, beating more than half the overall field.

Exactly why I love Roman. He had the most useful, interesting social media from the Games…and he always presented well! 😉 BRONZE FOR ROMAN, please.

Going to have to respectfully disagree on this one. The point of having the medal ceremony rather than mailing out medals is giving clean athletes the Olympic moment they deserve. Canada's clean athletes deserve that moment - to be on the podium with the United States and Japan.
I’d agree with that too but I’m afraid the other option is doing the medal ceremony with Russia receiving the bronze medal if they want to do it this year. That’s why I made the suggestion I did.

And a reminder again that the team medal would be the only figure skating medal for Canada from those Games. So this decision has other implications, because there can be a big difference in funding in Canada for sports whose athletes win Olympic medals.

(Using medals as a major measure of athletes' and sports' success is problematic in a lot of ways, but that's a different discussion.)

From Devin Heroux of CBC Sports on X (formerly Twitter) a few moments ago:

I’ve just heard from the Canadian Olympic Committee that the decision from today’s Court of Arbitration for Sport hearing involving the Canadian figure skaters will not be announced today.

It seems as though they’re still in conversation. Either way, no announcement today.
Devin is in Paris preparing for coverage of the Olympics.

No, nothing has been settled yet. CAS hearing for the Canadian appeal was today. We are still waiting on CAS to release its decision on the Russian appeals - hearings were held on those on June 12th.
At this point the US team should just tell the ISU and the IOC to stick it and not show up for whenever the medal ceremony is going to be or accept the medals.

This can't be good if they're still in conversation. Not good for Canada and the sport, I mean.

Good for Russia, I guess. I assume if they walk away with any kind of (stolen/bought/bullshit) medal, we can expect to see them back and dominating ISU competition soon.

Which will be a good time to switch fully over to hockey or something else.

No, I don't think we can read anything into it. I think it just means that CAS wanted to hear all the arguments for all the appeals before issuing any rulings.

Not that I think it’s really necessary to say this but it would have been a lot easier if she had tested positive at the Olympics.

So assuming Russia gets the medal - will the athletes be granted some super fast visas or the Russians will be denied the podium no matter what?

Um Russia is barred because of the war, not the doping scandal. Russia will not be competing at this week's Olympics nor at the upcoming gp series.

I think that CAS will just delay releasing their decision until after Aug 7th if they plan on screwing Canada.

Russia will get their medals by post.
