2022 Olympic FS Team Event delayed medal ceremony - updates

If CAS rules in Russia's favor on the gold medal appeal, wouldn't Canada's appeal on bronze be moot? Russia being placed in first would mean Canada places fourth with no claim on bronze.

What would CAS do in that event? Cancel the July 22 hearing?

Reschedule the date to hear the appeals from the US & Japan?

I can't even find the three Russian cases listed in the tweet as 2024/A/10355, 2024/A/10356, and 2024/A/10360 on the CAS site.

In the list of hearings dated 28.06.2024 08:58, the Canadian case is listed for July 22, but in the prior list for May news, it only lists May hearings through May 16. So nothing that I can find between May 16-June 28.

I can only find the ask (of ROC, Russian Fed, Russian Team Event Athletes) in the CAS release
The Appellants in these separate appeals both seek a ruling from CAS ordering the ISU to re-rank the
figure skating Team Event at the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games as follows:
(l) ROC - Gold medal;
(2) United States of America - Silver medal;
(3) Japan - Bronze medal
and the statement that the hearing would be held on June 12.

Maybe between the time of the hearing and a decision it falls off their site?

Oh, no, it's about the rest of the team being punished, unfairly, for Kamila's doping violation. They really seem to struggle with understanding and accepting how this "team" concept applies to them. I think they've been chatting with the 1972 Soviet Men's Basketball team members a bit too much, ;).

Maybe the Russian team want Anna Scherbakova’s points in the singles event to count, in place of Valieva’s team-event points? 🤪
Nah, I don’t know…

I’d say move forward with the gold and silver medal ceremonies and wait for the bronze medal issue to be determined.

Going to have to respectfully disagree on this one. The point of having the medal ceremony rather than mailing out medals is giving clean athletes the Olympic moment they deserve. Canada's clean athletes deserve that moment - to be on the podium with the United States and Japan.

BTW, Brennan's follow-up tweet on June 6 said: "I emailed both the IOC and CAS for comment and more information yesterday. This will come as a shock to absolutely no one that they have not gotten back to me. 😉"
It shouldn't come as a shock for ANYONE not to get back in touch with Brennan, kids.

Skating Reddit has an article from Japan (Yahoo) saying the medals (gold and silver) will be given in Paris.

No news on bronze.

I can’t read, translate or link to the article. 🤣

There's nothing in the article that gives any details. It's just a summary of what we already know. They want to give out the medals in Paris. It's a nice plan, but until the Russian appeals are adjudicated by CAS no firm plans can be made.

Thanks. Wasn’t sure if it was updated news or what we already know.

So no new news. :lol:

That article doesn't even cite a source or have an identified author. It is totally unreliable.

So I’ll finally finish filming my 2022 Winter Olympic DVDs this August? Really? I’ll believe it when I see it…but I hope that the reports are right.

I doubt it. I think we won't have a medal ceremony for the 2022 Team Event until Milano-Cortina.

Again, this whole issue makes a mockery of the rules of the sport IMHO.

The rules were broken, the team should have been immediately disqualified, the medal ceremonies should have been held at the time.................end of story.

Due to one athlete breaking the rules, many others were denied the earned opportunity to participate in an Oly medal ceremony.

The ONLY bright side is that this gives Vincent the chance to participate in the medal ceremony - he already missed the arena victory ceremony because he had been quarantined for Covid. I just am annoyed at how long Russia has managed to drag this out because it's grossly unfair to the rest of the athletes.

I’ve heard the ceremony will indeed happen in Paris during the second week of the Games so the Japanese article is legit.
The last information we had was Sarah Hirschland, CEO of USOPC, stating they're making plans but nothing is 100% confirmed until CAS issues its rulings. I just hope there is a ruling issued by CAS regarding the bronze medals in time for the Canadian skaters to participate as well.
