I am curious what the athletes will wear for the medal ceremony. I really hope it’s not the ugly blue bedazzled track suits that the US has.

I think not many Canadians (in general) aren't up in arms because skating is... Not that hot right now.

I think it's still hangover from 2018, to be fair. Not just lack of funding and COVID, effects, but we had some huge athletes leave all at once, and the new crop just hadn't left a mark outside of basic circles yet.

But I'm not sure how much that affects Skate Canada's position. I'm honestly surprised they specifically said they accept it, but good for them. They have to work with the ISU (though hopefully not CAS much) going forward. We have better-placing athletes now already in many cases. So why muddy the waters?

But on a separate note, I wish the Russians WOULD feel every inch of embarrassment over their bronze medals. I wish they were capable of shame or guilt, but... Well, I wish Russia wasn't in Ukraine right now, more.

Why should the media be in an outrage when Skate Canada has (per the below) accepted the decision? Hard to call this a scandal when the petitioner has decided to agree to disagree, and has dropped the issue.
What other choice does Skate Canada have?

CAS is the end of the line. As far as I know this decision is not appealable. They had their shot and lost.

It’s not right and it sucks.

But it’s better for the athletes now if Skate Canada plays the game and sucks it up. Especially when they are already out of options to go further.

And just to clarify, I was talking about the reaction of Canadians, not the media. The media's role is to report and explain, not to react. My point was that I'm not hearing outage from Canadians in part because the media has failed to report the story with a full and correct explanation of the basis of the appeal.
I also agree with Andora's post that figure skating just isn't that big of a deal in Canada now.

fashion update: according to olympic and world champion alexa knierim they are being given new kit when they get there
I hope we get nail checks from the rest of the Team USA and Team Japan women. Alexa posted a pic on her IG story of her beautiful newly-done golden nails. The Madis, Karen, Kaori, Wakaba, Riku and Misato need to get in on the action!

It was inevitable that Skate Canada made a carefully worded response and posted it on social media. Had a different country been affected the same way, I'm sure the response would have been the same. They tried to stand up for what was right and were unsuccessful so they were diplomatic about the outcome. They can't burn down the house because they've still got to live in it.

Twitter/X and especially the Figure Skating subreddit on Reddit have been an absolute cesspit of pro-Russian propaganda over the last couple of years, and as absolutely heartbreaking as the outcome of this mess has been, there's a lot to be said for the healthy debate and discussion that has been fostered here.
Posting pro-Russian anything is a great way to get downvoted on r/FigureSkating.

Maybe Vincent will reprise his awesome golden nails (which accompanied his Mathieu Caron suit) from the Gold House gala in May?

(seen at the very end of this clip, when Vincent applauds for Nathan's remarks)

What other choice does Skate Canada have?

How about a statement like:

"Skate Canada acknowledges the unfortunate decision of the Court of Arbitration of Sport. We strongly disagree with this decision, which ignores the ISU's own rules and precedent. While we have exhausted all appeal options, we continue to believe Canadian skaters are the rightful bronze medalists from the 2022 Olympics team event. This miscarriage of justice has motivated us to introduce amendments at the ISU Congress to disqualify entire teams if any one member is found to have doped, and to provide certainty on recalculation of results."

(PRlady or someone else can do better, I'm sure.)

The media's role is to report and explain, not to react. My point was that I'm not hearing outage from Canadians in part because the media has failed to report the story with a full and correct explanation of the basis of the appeal.

The media, like everyone else, is probably confused by the ISU's own rules. I've long thought that the rules were so unclear that we were in "flip a coin" territory re: Canada v. Russia for bronze.

It was inevitable that Skate Canada made a carefully worded response and posted it on social media.

I don't think it was inevitable, and SC has had no problem burning down the house for Sale and Pelletier, Bourne and Kraatz, etc. Either they've seen the light and realize that there are rational grounds for Russia getting bronze (which is my position), or they're chickensh*t. The statement is incredibly weak if they really believe this is scandalous.

Making a statement like that would be political suicide for future Canadian potential medalists.

They took their shot. They lost.

It’s unfortunate but it’s time to build a bridge and get over it.

They are 100 percent correct to focus on the future now.

Why? If their skaters are good enough they'll win regardless of any funny business some or a few judges try to pull with GOE and PCS.

@Private Citizen is correct - it was an incredibly chickensh*t statement from Skate Canada, but it seems pretty in line with their conduct over the past several years.

Beyond that, focusing on athlete development? LMFAO. We've seen how well that's been working out for them this quad.

Do we know if all nine members of Team USA for the 2022 Team Event will be in Paris to accept the gold medals? These are:

Nathan Chen
Vincent Zhou
Karen Chen
Alexa Knierim
Brendan Frazier
Madison Chock
Evan Bates
Madison Hubbell
Zach Donohue

Only Nathan, Knierim/Frazier and Chock/Bates were at the TODAY Show’s announcement in February. I hope that all can travel to Paris.
Wishing the same for the Japanese.

Chock/Bates are definitely planning to go to Paris. Madison did an IG ad reel showing off some new luggage she & Evan received from a sponsor that they're going to be using next week.

HubDon have both been pretty absent from IG this summer so no idea about them.

Something so important, they should all go. Zhou, after his COVID troubles…and, OMG, Karen Chen…all Olympic GOLD medalists.

For Japan, I just realize that the Ultimate Golden Guy, Hanyu, skipped the Team Event in 2022. Fanyus could have enjoyed this last Hurrah.

I didn’t get to see Roman with an Olympic bronze but…but…
OMG…Olympic silver for Team KoKo…including TIM KOLETO!!!! Now this makes my day. Woohoo! 🥳

I'd be really surprised if all of them aren't there but we'll just have to wait and see what happens next week.

Tim Koleto’s Wikipedia entry is amazing:

Born in Montana but grew up in Colorado Springs. Represented South Korea, Norway, and Japan. AND how he and his wife overcame the whole Dai Takahashi (coach Marina Zueva) situation in 21/22 to be named to the Beijing Olympics, where they performed beautifully (Le Freak RD and Geisha FD). Yowza!

I didn’t realize how far he has traveled the globe to be in, now, his Olympic Silver medalist situation.

His is one autobiography that I’d love to read someday!

There's nothing wrong with Skate Canada's post - those pushing that narrative are bored and need attention.

Exactly as @SkateGuard said - they still have to work with these governing bodies. Maybe they also think the bronze is enough of an insult to Russia to walk away from. (My personal hope) But with the rebuild from COVID among dwindling funds from all avenues, and the Olympics in less than two years, why rock the boat when they have more medal hopefuls now than they did in 2022? Remember the delusional notion of sending Walsh & Michaud to the games over James & Radford? And people defended it? That's not a concern with the current stable of pairs, so why look back.

Hardly. There's still plenty of posts about the bullshit russian competitions, and fascination with former and current Eteri skaters.

The only reason I know anything about Russian skaters is Reddit, and I don't even have to visit the actual thread, they're on my general feed whenever I open the app.

As a pro-Canadian hometown uber, my life will go on with Team Canada not getting bronze. I am more upset that a team with a doped-up teammate is not immediately DQ'd - and going through history, this is not a remote instance. Causing me to be a lot more disillusioned.

I understand and support the USFSA's more vocal stance. But Skate Canada was barely the only federation "not rocking the boat". Has the Japanese Fed said anything at all during this entire time? Maybe it's a matter of the team even being such a nothing burger that only gold matters. Would USFSA been as upset if they were being upgraded from bronze to silver?
