2022 Olympic FS Team Event delayed medal ceremony - updates

A bigger statement would be if ALL athletes refuse competing if Russia will be there. But that will never happen, and I understand why.
Didn’t you know that there were Russians & Belorussians in today’s Trampoline competition? Belarus won the Men’s event and was 2nd in the Women’s. They were in the Neutral Athletes team (AIN).

Me too. This is honestly what I was expecting but what a slap in the face. It's so upsetting that cheating is rewarded.
US won Gold and Japan won Silver. Let’s be happy! ? Roman didn’t get his bronze - I don’t like that but them’s the breaks.

Is there any information on how, or if, we can see the medal ceremony?
It’s not yet listed on NBC or Peacock but 5pm in Paris on August 7, 2024, is 11:00am in the Eastern N. Am. Time zone, using this:

It will also be shown on the Today Show iand Late Night with Maria Taylor in addition to Peacock

Really? I'm disgusted but not particularly surprised. This is the same organization that let Valieva compete in the Women's event at the Olympics instead of disqualifying her immediately as would have happen to any athlete from any other federation.

This is what I said prior to the decision...

I have a all day training on the 7th so one of you techie smart people gonna like record the full thing and post it for us plueeze?? :D Even if you just hold your phone up to your screen and record it on your phone?? :D

I'm sure Peacock will have it available on-demand afterward. They've been making recordings of all the other events available.

I'll try to remember to do that for you.

But I do think that it's going to be something Peacock and NBC upload to their own YT channel since it's been 2.5 years in the making.

I think for the Russians in a way the bronze is worse than no medal - for 2.5 years they have been announcing all these athletes in the shows as 'Olympic champion'. Now what will they announce? 'Bronze, but we think it's gold?'. Ironically the only gold medalist among them now is Katsalapov, who is gold-silver-bronze-bronze.
Am also curious whether their cars/money will be reversed, though highly doubt.

They'll do what they always do: Reward themselves the OGM and call themselves the true gold medalists. It's truly disgusting seeing their lack of respect and sportsmanship. All the more reason to keep Russia out

Very well said. I do think it really merits giving kudos to the moderators of this site for providing a space for people to have an informed and interesting discussion about this whole debacle.

Twitter/X and especially the Figure Skating subreddit on Reddit have been an absolute cesspit of pro-Russian propaganda over the last couple of years, and as absolutely heartbreaking as the outcome of this mess has been, there's a lot to be said for the healthy debate and discussion that has been fostered here.

The biggest takeaway for me is that I think if (and inevitably when) the ISU decides to allow Russia back in competition, they are going to get a heck of a lot more opposition and blowback than they think. Rightfully so. Absolutely nobody's buying the whole romper room propaganda campaign.

Well, also keep in mind that the ban is NOT because of doping. There are a lot of people who keep conflating the two issues - doping and the war in Ukraine - into one and forgetting that Russia & Belarus weren't banned because of doping but because they went and invaded Ukraine - and they did it during the Olympic truce period, which really pissed off the IOC.

Right now, as long as the war continues and as long as Putin persists in his Olympic-substitute "Friendship Games" next month, both countries will remain banned and I don't see any move toward reinstatement. Plus, as I've mentioned already, not one winter sports federation has budged at all in allowing any Russian or Belarusian athletes to compete as neutrals. Perhaps there may be pressure to allow it this season as Milano-Cortina qualifications get under way but the ISU is going to have a difficult time approving ANY of the top Russian skaters as neutrals because of the source of most of their funding comes from the Russian military sports clubs and too many have posted on their social media in support of the war or attended Putin rallies. I'm pretty sure the ISU recognizes the blowback they'd get, plus they know how Russia ruined Beijing for both the TE and the Women's event, so I don't see them being one of the winter feds that buckles.

This is true and it’s a problem because nothing has been changed to address the Russian doping. So when they do unfortunately come back they are just going to keep right on doping

I'm not sure it will be as successful what with the age increase for the women. It will be interesting to see how Samodelkina does this season. She's the first high-ranked Russian junior to have made the country switch since the ban began.

Literally all of Canada right now:

Actually not that much of Canada. The mainstream Canadian media doesn't seem to understand the issue of the points that should have been properly reassigned after the disqualification because they have not been explaining it that way. They have been making it sound more like the argument being made is solely that a team with a disqualified skater shouldn't get a medal, even though the skater's points were removed, so Canada should get it. Though many Canadians might think "too bad" the appeal was denied, I doubt the majority are feeling outraged. (At least that's the reaction I'm hearing from my friends and relatives who aren't rabid figure skating fans.)

(Edited after skategal's reply just to make my point a little clearer, NOT as a reaction to skategal's comments.)

Yes. The media doesn’t understand the CAS ruling means it’s okay for the ISU to leave the women’s section of the team event devoid of a winner. ?‍♀️

I think this ruling sets a terrible precedent.
