Deduction was for an extended lift. The lift in question was their highest scored element.
The lift may have been allowed here, but I suspect a future tech panel might think differently.

His shirt is not flattering at all. It makes him look like he has a beer belly when he’s actually fit.
@Braulio has already uploaded the videos of the FD - https://ok.ru/video/2505936603683 - it's the first lift of the program. He has both arms lifting her above his head.Hi guys I wasn’t watching the feed this time. Can you tell me what they did in the lift that you guys are all talking about?

I take no offense at your observation about the judging at ACI. I guess we'll have to see what transpires at the Grand Prix; most likely the final, to get a more valid comparison.Because the judges here are better than the ones at ACI? No offense but the judging at ACI was suspect as heck in both pairs and dance, IMO.
That shirt you mentioned was on my bedroom floor so let’s give him a pass
I think it’s because he’s clean shaven for the first time in quite a while.Zach looks different this season but I can't put my finger on how?
That makes sense but I have to agree that it's an unnecessary risk because with the wrong panel, it could totally destroy their score. The only way I can see them getting away with it is if Zach keeps his arms more clearly bent than they are in how they executed the lift today. So… I don’t know what exactly is happing here with Hubbel & Donohue’s opening combination lift. Like… it seems like an unnecessary risk to take as a panel could totally destroy their score. An illegal element is a 2 point deduction, and the element becomes base level, a loss of 4.3 points. The GOE potential also goes down by about 1.5 points.
Here’s where I think the grey lies. Donohue’s never maintaining the hold. He’s gradually lowering Hubbel. So, the hold is never “sustained” and his arms aren’t fully extended. Rules as written, it’s an allowable lift.
I agree with this. It's a lift that depends on the kindness of the panel, and we all know that is a dangerous position to be in.That makes sense but I have to agree that it's an unnecessary risk because with the wrong panel, it could totally destroy their score. The only way I can see them getting away with it is if Zach keeps his arms more clearly bent than they are in how they executed the lift today.
Yes, but even then... Home field advantage is going to be a factor for both H/D and G/P at their first GPs. We'll probably have to wait until their 2nd GP or even the GPF to see how they are really stacking up against each other.I take no offense at your observation about the judging at ACI. I guess we'll have to see what transpires at the Grand Prix; most likely the final, to get a more valid comparison.
If the long delay in getting scores was because the judges were hashing out the legality of the lift, that's an enormous red flag.
Hmmm, I don't know. I just watched it on Braulio's vid (wow, that was fast!) and Zach is definitely pausing the movement to hold Madi overhead for a sec or two. I guess the legality depends on whether his elbows are bent? It seems risky and I'm sure opposing coaches and feds/judges will have something to say about it. Stirring up controversy isn't a great idea in an Oly year. Here’s where I think the grey lies. Donohue’s never maintaining the hold. He’s gradually lowering Hubbel. I can't imagine Patrice taking a risk like that for his teams.Yeah, it's a cool lift but I think they'd be nuts to keep it when it could be ruled illegal in a critical competition.
I think a StaLiB sequel is the last thing they want, so the lift will probably go by their next competition. It's a pity as that lift is the best part of this FD.
You SuckCan our prize please be them not qualifying for the Olympics next weekend so that we don't have to worry that we'll be subjected to this more than necessary this season?
And, since we're going to play like we're five here... How shall I respond? They sucked first because they/their choreograper picked a sucky version of a modern warhorse? Honestly, if you want to select Les Mis, at least go beyond the movie soundtrack and check out the original Broadway cast album, maybe, mmmmkay? It is like picking up Two Buck Chuck at the local ABC when you could have fine French champagne instead. You Suck
