Trying to pair up juniors and predict their results is almost completely ridiculous, the chips are gonna fall where they fall. Hanna is better off in seniors so I'm glad she has that USFS event coming up, good for her.

Hanna was 2nd at Egna Spring Trophy 2019
Sorry to nitpick ;) but Hanna's junior silver at Egna was in the spring of 2018 where she debuted her 2018/19 SP.

These are the JGP-eligible skaters added to the ISP after their respective summer competitions (chronological order by discipline):

LADIES (6)
Jessica Lin (Broadmoor Open in late June) JGP #2 Lake Placid
Lindsay Thorngren & Elsa Cheng (Novice at Skate Milwaukee in mid July; Lindsay was in NAC & Elsa's higher total was in the club comp.)
Ellen Slavicek (Glacier Falls in mid to late July)
Kate Wang (Skate Detroit in late July) JGP #4 Russia
Sarah Jung (Philadelphia Summer in early August)

MEN (4)
Daniel Martynov (Novice at Southport Summer Classic in mid June)
Maxim Naumov (Lake Placid FS in late June) JGP #1 France
Goku Endo (Glacier Falls in mid to late July)
Nicholas Hsieh (Skate Wilmington in mid to late July)

PAIRS
none

ICE DANCE (5 teams)
Katarina Wolfkostin & Jeffrey Chen (Chesapeake Open in late June) JGP #1 France & listed for #4 Russia
Elizabeth Tkachenko & Alexei Kiliakov and Anya Lavrova & Maxwell Gart (Cannon Texas Open in mid July) JGP #1 France
Katarina DelCamp & Ian Somerville (Lake Placid in late July/early August) JGP #5 Poland (my mistake)
Angela Ling & Caleb Wein (Dance Chicago in August)

Everyone not (yet) assigned to a JGP at this point has been listed as a alternate at least once.

Nitpicking but Delcamp/Somerville aren't listed for any JGP yet (just alternates for 2 so far). Nguyen/Kolesnik and Ales/Tsarik are listed for the Poland JGP. I'm hoping D/S will get the last two JGP's, though.

Yeah, I was going to say..... I don’t see DelCamp & Somerville listed for any JGPs yet. I’m wondering what the wait is.

Well, It's 7th and 12th for the first jgp.
For strategy -- that is, if skaters' schedule allows it, like you said-- I would group a girl with a better sp record with someone with a weaker sp record, etc etc. For someone like Harrell, I actually think sending her with a skater with a strong summer would be better, like Kate Wang. Choi would have been better at, say, Lake Placid, skating at home, with a lead skater like Liu taking the spotlight.

I don't see how it would have made a difference who Harrell or Choi was paired with. I doubt Harrell knew how Choi had skated when she took the ice. And if competing against Valieva, Wi, Kawabata, etc. doesn't inspire one to skate her best, I don't see how a stronger U.S. skater like Wang would push Harrell any farther. For the record, I'm sure Harrell tried her very hardest; she's just inconsistent.

Choi had a lead skater here in Harrell. Again, I doubt Harrell's performance had any effect on Choi. This isn't junior worlds where the team is competing for spots together. It's very much an individual event.

Trying to pair up juniors and predict their results is almost completely ridiculous, the chips are gonna fall where they fall.

Agreed.

Hanna is better off in seniors so I'm glad she has that USFS event coming up, good for her.

Disagree. I thought this event proved that Harrell very much belongs in juniors. Skates like that would get eaten alive on the Senior Grand Prix. She may as well stay junior and try to develop consistency, and she can go to senior Bs for experience, too.

Yeah, I was going to say..... I don’t see DelCamp & Somerville listed for any JGPs yet. I’m wondering what the wait is.

I don't pretend to understand the minds of the USFS selection committee, but my guess would be that the final two events will be DelCamp/Somerville & Cesanek/Yehorov and DelCamp/Somerville & Brown/Brown.

It doesn't have anything to do with whether the skater knows what happened on the ice. I am just throwing out one way of looking at it. other feds all use strategies. Team Korea has a test skate and spreads the assignments over the top scorers. Same for team russia. US rewards top scorers to some extent, but it really doesn't hurt to send skaters who look ready ready, esp, those who can do a clean short, in the earlier assignments. The order of the assignments has nothing to do with readiness is what i am getting at? Every season we have one or two jgp assignments that we puzzle over and that is a bigger issue as it happens every season. (Why did Ales Tsarik get a 2ND jgp before even knowing how they do in the first) For instance i am fine with Choi having an assignment based on past records but she looks like she can use more training time. Why send her so early?

Consolidating coaches maybe? Aren't Nguyen/Kolesnik training mates with Ales/Tsarik?

They are. It's different that USFS is listing teams on the official assignment page this season before they have even skated a first event. Apparently they've ranked these teams in advance somehow? (Only two have competed together on the JGP before, neither of them Wolfkostin & Chen or Ales & Tsarik. There has not been an event with all of these athletes head-to-head; and summer scores are mixed so I've no idea how they've done it).

I'm not a fan of this new game plan as it implies they aren't going to move teams, regardless of results or the depth of the fields; but it probably doesn't make much difference this season considering how many teams are in their first JGP season together. And I'm sure it is a plus for teams to know where they are going in advance.

You'd think they'd put up DelCamp & Somerville first and then put Igor's teams at an event in between, but there's probably a reason this is the plan for Nguyen & Kolesnik. (The most obvious would be if Ushakova & Nekrasov are at those last two events, though probably this has been the plan for N&K all along). Just so we don't get to the end and wind up with D&S having one of the top three or four scores among the U.S. teams, then hear that there isn't enough time for them to be sent to the final event.

Can someone help?
Bidar posted the podium of some event (where he came in 4th); Knierims won.
What competition was that? He is in the US, so must have been there.
Videos? :saint:
Thanks for the help ;)

@Jeschke It's the Mid-Atlantics club competition in NYC (annual event of the Skating Club of NY). TSL posted vids of the Knierims and Serafini/Tran, you could check their sites to see if there are any others.

94th Middle Atlantic Championships in NYC... Senior Pairs (6 teams) competed on Thursday & Friday (Sept. 5-6).

Final standings (ETA 2 photos of results): https://twitter.com/SylviaUnseen/status/1171187398920855553
1 Alexa Knierim/Chris Knierim 194.22 (71.19 SP, 123.03 FS)
2 Olivia Serafini/Mervin Tran 162.69 (61.84 SP, 100.85 FS) - showed lots of improvement as a pair, I thought!
3 Maria Mokhova/Ivan Mokhov 143.46 (51.59 SP, 91.87 FS) - she was so excited when she found out they would medal! :)
4 Elizaveta Zhuk (listed as "Individual Member" of USFS)/Martin Bidar (CZE) 136.69 (48.61 SP, 88.08 FS) - skated to "Ave Maria"; double twist looked very good & potential is there to develop into a solid team but many elements still rough (Nina Mozer was with them)
5 Anna Vernikov/Evgeni Krasnopolsky (ISR) 124.53 (47.96 SP, 76.57 FS) - skated to Einaudi's "Experience" & aotehr orchestral piece
6 Allison Timlen/Justin Highgate Brutman 114.66 (76.34 FS) - first comp. of season & I liked their Santana medley program that was choreo. by Massimo Scali

Junior Pairs results (6 competed):
Winter Deardorff/Mikhail Johnson 133.42 1 1 - they are a mirror pair; skated to Requiem for a Dream, landed sbs 3T+2T & 2A and I liked how they moved together across the ice
Grace Knoop/Blake Eisenach 113.52 2 2 - skated to City of Stars/La La Land and landed 2 throw triples (sal & toe); provisionally assigned to JGP #6 CRO
Analise Gonzalez/Franz-Peter Jerosch 103.82 3 4 - I like their look together; skated to the Nutcracker Pas de Deux
Sydney Flaum/Alex Wellman 102.66 5 3 - skated well to Rhapsody in Blue, landing sbs 3S, 2A+2T & throw doubles
Ellie McClellan/Matthew Rounis 89.68 4 6
Sarah Burden/Jake Pagano 85.44 6 5

Senior Ladies top 4: Rena Ikenishi 148.82 (94.93 FS), Jill Heiner 132.73, Violeta Ushakova 131.52, Julia Biechler 130.87 (won SP 56.21).

Junior Ladies was won by Lindsay Thorngren 173.07 (61.50 SP, 111.57 FS) - I didn't see her FS, unfortunately, but heard she went for 7 triples.

Novice Ladies top 2 both performed really good free skates: Isabeau Levito 176.30 wow (57.11 SP, 119.19 FS), Gwen Bloesch 154.42 (106.38 FS). More on them later.

ETA:

(Most of) Isabeau Levito's Novice FS, part 1: https://twitter.com/SylviaUnseen/status/1171246223057195008
Part 2: https://twitter.com/SylviaUnseen/status/1171250163941347329
Her opening 3Lz+3T was a bit shaky; not sure about the rotation on her 3T. Her other jumps (as shown in the 2 clips) were: 3Lz, 3F, 2A+3T, 3Lo+1Eu+3S, 2Lo & 2A.

I'm sorry I didn't film Gwen Bloesch's 2nd place Novice FS to Amelie (106.38) with 6 triples landed (2A, 3Lz, 3T+1Eu+2F, 3F+1T, 3F, 3S+2T, 3T). She was very excited when she finished her program. :)

IJS results/protocols have been published for Skate St. Moritz (Sept. 6-8): http://www.stmoritzisc.org/SkStm19/2019SkateStMoritzIJSEvents/index.html
I've summarized some of the notable ladies' results in the U.S. Ladies thread in GSD (plus Mia Kalin's Junior FS video is linked there): https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/u-s-ladies-27-a-time-to-reboot.105854/page-11#post-5633490

Golden West IJS results (no protocols; dates were Aug. 30-Sept. 1): http://allyearfsc.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/index.html
I posted the Senior Men's results and a link to Sean Rabbitt's new FS in the U.S. Men's thread here: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...eason-news-updates.105723/page-8#post-5632883
Also, natsulian (who doesn't have access here) shared Audrey Shin's 1st place Senior FS video from the Sept. 1st Golden West livestream in the U.S. Ladies thread (scroll down to watch part 2): https://twitter.com/Natsu_Lian_/status/1168993500920209408
According to her updated ISU bio, her Miss Saigon FS was choreographed by either Ilona Melnichenko or Tom Dickson (my guess is the latter).

The final NQS competitions of the summer are taking place this weekend (Challenge Cup for dance, Pasadena Open & SW Florida Fall Classic for singles/pairs): https://unseenskaters.wordpress.com/competitions/
I expect IDC's FB page will post any dance results photos that are received.

Byes directly to 2020 Nationals (top five in Senior at 2019 Nationals):
Nathan Chen, Vincent Zhou, Jason Brown, Tomoki Hiwatash, Alex Krasnozhon;
Alysa Liu, Bradie Tennell, Mariah Bell, Hanna Harrell, Ting Cui;
Hubbell/Donohue, Chock/Bates, Hawayek/Baker, McNamara/Carpenter, Carreira/Ponomarenko;
Cain/LeDuc, Denney/Frazier, Kayne/O'Shea, Calalang/Johnson.

Byes through Regionals (at least one international assignment this fall; if any elect to compete they will retain their bye and not take a spot away from the top 4 advancing to Sectionals):

SENIOR:
Karen Chen (CP), Starr Andrews (SWP), Amber Glenn (SW), Megan Wessenberg (NE), *Gabriella Izzo (NE), *Audrey Shin (NA), *Emilia Murdock (CP), *Sarah Jung (SA)
Camden Pulkinen (SW), Jimmy Ma (NA), Andrew Torgashev (SW), *Ryan Dunk (SA), *Dinh Tran (CP)
*new seniors in U.S.

JUNIOR:
Calista Choi (UGL), Isabelle Inthisone (UGL), Jessica Lin (SW), Lindsay Thorngren (NA), Kate Wang (CP)
William Annis (NE), Liam Kapeikis (NWP), Ilia Malinin (SA), Maxim Naumov (NE), Matthew Nielsen (EGL), Eric Sjoberg (SWP)
NOVICE: Joseph Klein (UGL), Daniel Martynov (UGL)

I believe Camden Pulkinen, Karen Chen (both have 2 GPs & 1 Challenger) and Starr Andrews (1 GP, 2 Challengers) all have byes through Sectionals due to having received 3 international assignments this fall.

Does anyone know of a schedule of skaters slated for the Regionals in Aston??
Only the ladies' qualifying groups (Juvenile, Intermediate, Novice) are posted on the South Atlantics website. The South Atlantics starting orders/results page has yet to be posted but Gracie Gold mentioned in a recent Instagram story that she plans to compete (Aston is her home rink).

I can start a new thread for U.S. Regional Singles & Pairs/Dance Sectional Challenges as soon as the starting orders are posted for South Atlantics, Eastern Great Lakes and & NW Pacific.

QUALIFYING COMPETITIVE PIPELINE (summary, links to more info): https://www.usfigureskating.org/story?id=84035
Excerpts:
In novice ladies and novice men, the top two finishers at each Sectional Singles Final will be invited to compete at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships – in the junior ladies or junior men’s event. This brings the total number of qualifiers for the junior singles events to 18 each. See the detailed advancement for singles document for details.
In senior ladies, senior men, senior pairs and senior dance, all competitors that qualify for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships through their placement at a Sectional Singles Final, the U.S. Pairs Final or the U.S. Dance Final, must also have met a minimum Technical Elements Score (TES) during the season to compete at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Scores may be earned at any of the following competitions: Any official NQS event, a Regional or Sectional Challenge, a Sectional or U.S. Final, or any international competition. Competitors not earning the minimum TES will be not be permitted to enter the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
Re: Qualifying for the [2020] U.S. Figure Skating Championships – Minimum Total Element Score (TES) for SENIORS ONLY: https://www.usfigureskating.org/content/TN 229 Minimum TES for Championships.pdf
The minimum score is comprised of the TES from the short program/rhythm dance plus the TES from the free skate/free dance in the same competition.
For the 2019-20 season, the minimum TES are:
Men: 92.0
Ladies: 75.0
Pairs: 68.0
Ice Dance: 65.0

Does "Did not register for NQS" mean a skater/team isn't going to compete at the pairs/dance finals or the singles sectional finals? This system confuses me so much.

For pairs/dance, there may not be enough Senior level teams in the U.S. that the teams who already have the minimum technical scores can choose whether or not they want to compete at the Pairs or Dance Finals (will check on this).

In singles, the skaters who elected not to register for NQS still had to register and compete at Regionals if they hope to qualify for Nationals.
This system confuses me so much.
Understatement of the year!

For example, Emily Chan/Spencer Howe just managed to get the 68 minimum TES at the Midwestern Sectional Pairs Final (30.76+37.36=68.12) but, for @TanithandBenFan's sake, I hope they decide they want another competition before Nationals. :)

Thanks @Sylvia! I watched the Mids Pairs Challenge video, and I think Chan/Howe could use another competition under their belts. It was not pretty. I'm bummed Digerness/Neudecker don't have to compete at the final. I assume Pfund/Satillan will compete since they haven't done any major competitions this season. There's a chance Audrey and Misha will be there?
