2018/19 Russian National Competitions

Men

Savosin 26 (qualified)
Milyukov 20 (qualfied)
Lezheev 18 (probably qualified)
Kovalev 14
Shulepov 14

Katichev 9
Kokovkin 7

One event remaining
Kovtun 13
Murashov 11
Petrov 11
Samoilov 9

Kniazhuk 7
Maslenin 3
Zotov 3
Rukhin 2
Galkin 2
Vetlugin 1

Already qualified

Lazukin GP
Kolyada GP
Erokhov GP
Dmitriev GP
Voronov GP
Aliev GP
Samarin GP
Gumennik JGPF - 1st @ Cup 4

Ten spots TBD from Cup series.

Savosin, Lezheev, Miliukov, Shulepov, and Kovalev have qualified. Well Shulepov/Kovalev just need to hope Rukhin doesn't get silver and Vetlugin gold.

Kovtun, Murashov, Petrov and Samoilov have all but qualified they just need to step on the ice and finish in the top 8. That's 9 out of your 10 spots.

Kokovkin did not qualify.

Katichev is in the top 10 now but can be pushed out by Kniazhuk depending on how he does. He only needs an 8th place finish and about 174 pts.

Cannot see Rukhin or Vetlugin placing so high as to qualify but stranger things have happened (they definitely need gold/silver and a high score). Mind you, Vetlugin has yet to land a 3 axel, Rukhin will score low in PCS and GOE. The other guys are <200 pt skaters.

What is going on with Skirda? He seemed so promising a few years ago and now he doesn't even medal at Russian Cup events.
Massive puberty problems? Curse of Eteri? Both?

I think it is a mixture of reasons. On paper he seems promising. At that time he didn’t have any quad and I don’t think even triple axel, but he managed to squeeze the maximum out of what he could do. When he got to the JGPF, he managed to do so with one of the lowest scores, but as he attended the first JGP event, he placed second even with score of 190, whereas in later events skaters with higher scores didn’t get in. So a bit of strategy and luck, which can’t last forever. Since then he hasn’t been consistent and he needs to raise his technical content to be competitive with other juniors.

How does the qualification works for junior nationals?
Gubanova did not skate any junior event afaik and is highly unlikely making any senior team (besides universiade); is there a chance she can do junior nationals and somehow end up 3rd? or is she not allowed either way to skate there.
( i know that with trus, kostonaia and sherba the chances ending up with pewter again are way more likely,...)

So the actual points they are getting are for their places are 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1 ?

Funnily enough, it works out about the same especially in the more competitive fields. His top 10 is my top 10 in men/boys and senior ladies.

Puberty, jump technique, stamina. He was worse last year under Eteri. He's doing much better now.

I wouldn't hold my breathe waiting for him to try a 3 axel or to rotate a quad though. At least for me, when I saw him at JGPF, I thought his jumps would not survive puberty and the 3 axel/quads would not come easy.

Unless her an Guliakova are voted in by the coaching council, they did not qualify to Junior nationals. No JGP, no junior cup events. I don't think either is old enough for Universiade. Gubanova is only 15 and is in high school.

Gubanova couldn’t skate at both junior and senior Russian cup events. Not allowed in singles. It is allowed only in pairs to do both junior and senior Russian cup events within one season. Those who will skate at both junior and senior nationals are those who had JGP and threfore were already qualified for junior nationals and either through the Russian cup events or through JGPF qualified to senior nationals. Because she didn’t qualify to junior nationals through having JGP event, she had to choose if she will be trying to get to junior or to senior nationals through the cups.

Last season Tarusina did a senior cup because she was put down for JGP event, so she thought she will qualify for both nationals. The JGP event was then taken away from her and because she already did one senior Russian cup, she couldn’t swap and try to qualify for juniors nationals through Russian cup. She had to continue with senior cups and do senior nationals, and miss on the opportunity to be in junior nationals.

Senior men have somehow went missing :biggrinbo
None entered?
I mean, Lezheev only makes it to nationals, as he skated in a 3guys-event :shuffle:
Ah, wait, makes no sense. Kovtun has to skate still.

Random question; I am somehow  that Ignatov getting a challenger but not skating RC
(maybe he was not ready or whatever)
How are his chances to get a coach's bye to nationals if he skates great there? I don't expect anything like that for Pogo in the deep ladies field, but the mens field is another story.

I think they just forgot to add them or is a glitch. Kovtun said yesterday on Instagram he would be there. But considering the state of the Senior men, they can just make their entry list from the past 4 events. Wouldn't even change a thing :biggrinbo

Ignatov would need to be voted in by the coaching council if he doesn't compete at this one but so does Erokhov (same position as Radionova) but i'm sure they would get in if they are ready.

Murashov entered and still has to qualify? How are is his chances? No clue how he placed last time.
I thought he already made it, damn.
Go boy, slay!

Well he is ranked 8th (I think) out of 11 open spots. He's fine. He got a bronze at his first event.

Plushenko has a junior here. It was interesting to watch him teaching in the KnC.

It would appear that my plan to have Kovtun replace Kolyada on the Euro/Worlds team is premature to say the least. Oh, well.

Can't say i'm hoping much for Kovtun except to get a good enough SB next week so we can see him on the GP next season. He's had his own trouble dealing with the pressure of being Russia's #1. Plus he is coming back from injury. Plus his team just chewed him out  I was entertained but still, poor guy.

The video feeds for this event only lasts during the event itself, and then 10-15 minutes after.
Here is a link with individual videos. They flow in the order of the skating events, ending with the latest.
currently it is: sr. men, jr. boys, prior to that sr. fs dance, jr. fs dance, and prior to that sr. rd, jr. rd.
