Russian Cup series & other domestic events (2021-22)

Wasn't there an announcement the other day that they ruled Akateva too young to go to nationals?
Russian nationals have been traditionally considered based on calendar year (January to December) and not on ISU year (first July till 30th June). That means that the rule of eligibility would be based on her year of birth, rather than on the fact that she wasn’t 14 on 1st July. (Because of the same rule, in their first junior season Kostornaya was able to compete at senior nationals and Trusova and Scherbakova were not, even though they became junior eligible in the same skating season.) So I am not really sure why Akatieva would be suddenly considered too young for the nationals. Saying that, Zhilina will be considered too young, because she Akatieva was born in July 2007 and Zhilina in May 2008, even though they are junior eligible within the same skating season.

That’s what’s happening not keeping up to date with Russian Women thread 😂
Did they change rules?
So Akatieva out then - Zhilina in😅

Or whatever fed decides until then 😝

i actually still don't understand about Akatieva. She's 1 month younger than Petrosyan yes? so how could she be out of Russia cup 5 (and possibly nationals) and Petrosyan got to compete at Russia cup 5?

I think they changed the rule within the past year or two that you have to be in your second year of ISU-junior eligibility (like Petrosian) instead of just by going by birth year (which is why Kostornaia could compete in the 2017/2018 season but not Trusova).

If Akatieva is out because of her age, then Zhilina won’t be in because Shilina is nearly a year younger than Akatieva!

I still can’t believe that a pair who scores internationally 200 could not qualify for the nationals, but a pair who scored internationally 162-183 (Pepeleva/Pleshkov) got in. The same with the juniors who got into JGPF - they are great, but they don’t score internationally 200…
