2018/19 Russian National Competitions

Efimova/Korovin :drama:
I fear, I fear.
They better get their shit together. Soon.

I love their style but they've just never been consistent. They're going to end up behind all of Pavlyuchenko, Mishina, Boikova and Kostiukovich at Russian Nationals (again).

Valieva looks great! Loved those little contemporary-dance-esque moves here and there.

BTW, I'm out of loop. Could someone please make me updated about bonus points in Russian national competitions? I thought difficult combos and Lv4 spins/stsq were given bonus in the past but it doesn't seem it's working in that way nowadays. It's more fun to know in detail. Thanks.

Valieva is so good! That was even better than in the Moscow comp from last week. Those spins!

Who allowed the atrocity that is Pavlyuchenko/Khodkyhin FS to happen?! They need to fire their choreographer immediately. I can't believe that is what their going with in their senior debut. It does nothing for them. I watched them and Kostiukovich/Ialin back to back and it wasn't a favorable comparison for P/K. K/I looked much faster and powerful. On the other hand, their SP is nice and the SBS 3F is a nice addition this year (though I thought Daria's was slightly UR).

The junior pairs competition was excellent; none of these pairs would be out of place in the JGP. Russia has an embarrassment of riches in junior pairs right now. It was impressive to see pairs down the ranks do SBS 3Lz and 3Lo (assuming that some of these skaters are transitioning from singles to pairs).

Akhanteva/Kolesov don't do much for me; he is so much better than her and she's so stiffed kneed that it's distracting. But their twist and throw are just huge and light.

I was really impressed with Vislobokova/Briukhanov who were 3rd. For their ages (14/16, first year of junior eligibility) the quality of their basic skating, presentation and their elements is outstanding. I kind of wish they would have gone to the JGP in Vancouver over Kvartalova/Sciatchenko as it would have been great experience for them.

I have no idea what that program is about. Its level of confusion almost makes it fascinating. I think it's about a girl who's running late for the RenFaire and meets a greaser. They play phone tag and he runs his hands through his hair a lot. They had two well-thought out and coherent programs last year, but this is just ..... ???

Polina Kostyukovich is a little baby pairs goddess. As long as she stays a shortie she'll be successful. And I love that she wears tights in both programs. :respec:

I don't think Amina Atakhanova has recovered from her injury. She was kind of a mess in both programs. I guess it's a good thing that they're not doing the JGP, although I'd still rather have them than Kvartalova/Sviatchenko.

Yeah, poor Amina looked ROUGH, watching them made me wish they'd withdrawn but I imagine they may try to qualify for both junior and senior nationals. She just didn't look recovered :( On a positive note, I love their short program, to " I Feel it Still" and he's very attractive:shuffle:

Labazina and Rachmaninov would've also been a good choice. Or a second assignment for Pepeleva/Pleshkov. I hope some of these teams can go to junior Bs...

Russian senior ladies

1 Anastasia GULYAKOVA SPB 210.15 1 1
2 Victoria VASILYEVA MOS 203.20 3 2
3 Anastasia GUBANOVA MOS 194.48 5 3
4 Anastasia HRACHEVA MOS 191.19 4 4
5 Serafima SAKHANOVICH SPB 184.81 8 5

Wonder if that helps Gulyakova's case for the home GP spot.

Sure hope Gubanova gets something this season, even if it's only a Challenger. She needs to get on that SB list for next season.

Gubanova is killing me. There are only 18 ladies spots available for Nationals. Without a GP event, she's got to fight her way onto the nationals team. I'm over Sakhanovich, but come on #Nastianumberone (there are too many of them ). Don't let the other Nastias keep you off the team.

Do we know whom of Scherbakova, Kanysheva, Tarusina, Tarakanova, and Sinitsina will try to skate senior at Nationals? Does making jgpf automatically qualify you for Nationals? If all of them were to skate at senior nationals, that would leave like one spot for Leonova, Mikhailova, Gubanova, Sakhanovich, and Pogorilaya to fight over...

Assumed spots at Nationals- Zag, Med, Radio, Tsur, Tuk, Sots, Gulia, Vasi, Kost, Konst, Panen, Trus- that is 12

You have to be 14 to take part in Senior Nationals, that's why Trusova and Tarakanova were out of Nationals last year. So, that means that Kanysheva won't be at senior nationals even if she makes it to JGPF (was born on June 15, 2005). Most likely Sinitsina won't qualify to JGPF (and won't get 2nd JGP event) as she was only 3rd in Kaunas , so no senior nationals for her.

Thank you for that- also I forgot Samodurova above of the qualified ones...so then at least 2 spots to compete for, among Leonova, Pogorilaya, Gubanova, Sakhanovich, Mikhailova, etc...

Couldn't Sinitsina (potentially) qualify via the Russian Cups since she was born in (August) 2004?

She became very inconsistent with her jumps. I really like watching them, but there are many juniors due in the next few years and I expect they will keep dropping in the ranking order within Russia. They had several years in seniors and last two years haven’t done much progress.

Sakhanovich can skate 1 more RC event, i think, and a 2nd SPB Cup event.
Yes but even if she skates another Russian cup event, she has no chance getting into senior nationals any more. Count with me - 9 skaters have GP events, so that’s 9 spots out of 18 gone. It is quite likely that 5 ladies will get to JGPF. They will be able to compete at seniors nationals if they are over 14, and most of them is. Scherbakova, Trusova, Kostornaya, Tarakanova, Tarusina ...all over 14. Kanysheva is too young. But even if let’s say only 4 out of 5 who get into JGPF are over 14, that’s already 13 spots out of 18 gone.
There will be 5 Russian cup events, that means five gold medals, 5 silver medals, 5 bronze medals given out... I don’t think Serafima has any chance at all to qualify with her fifth place (even if she wins her second event) because there will too be many skaters ahead of her, and all of them will be fighting only for five available spots. She messed up. She can try challenger events or other B competitions.

True, but she can be high up on the waiting list, and the Jr. Girls may not all skate at Senior Nationals.
But that's just numbers. I do think she is "done" as far as an elite competitor, at least at present.

I wouldn’t say she is done, after all, Leonova has been holding on for ages so why can’t Serafima. But I think she is out of nationals for this season. She still could do challengers and other competitions though. Considering how many ladies there is (and each year will be even more as the girls become senior eligible), she definitely won’t be the only one who won’t be competing at the nationals. It is just unfortunate that the nationals is the competition who decides who is on the national team for the next season (for funding).
