2017 IAAF World Championships (Real) London

So Gatlin ruins the farewell to Bolt

Guy needs to show some respect to the crowd even though the booing, glad he didn't made that 'shhhh' signal again after the win, it just doesn't make any favours to his image in London.

Would like to see Coleman taking the prize but well it is Gatlin's experience that stood up but the feel and sense in the stadium is about Bolt and his legacy to the sport, I am sure this will continue through the medal ceremony where he will be cheered up as if he won the gold

USA 1-2, Jamaica Bronze

Cameras following Bolt - Gatlin getting little coverage even though he won. Gatlin has never shown remorse for his drug use and bans - never. His arrogance is one reason he gets booed - as are his pathetic excuses as to why he got caught with drugs in his system. And Gatlin was beyond sarcastic to Bolt with his fake bowing. Nasty, nasty man.

Argh .... I didn't think he was going to do it but then I thought the same re Mo last night. Gutted.

Gatlin to Jonathans: Usain told him he didn't deserve the booing and congratulated to him..

According to Gatlin's interview he respects Bolt and he was all sprinters' inspiration.. Gatlin said this race was all about Bolt..

Sorry Gabby - Gatlin's drug taking has probably impacted how he is running like this at 35. If he hadn't taken them he wouldn't have even been in this final!!

Bolt said something to Gatlin when giving a hug and it looked liked he said 'NO' but who knows if it's what Justin said to Jonathan

I'd have been more gutted in 2015 but still disappointing. Doesn't change that Bolt's had a legendary career though. And he'll surely be extra motivated to get a final win in the relay.

Missed DeGrasse, hopefully he makes sure to fully heal the injury. There's plenty of time till next Worlds/Olympics.

Nothing is going to diminish Bolt's legacy at this point, but in retrospect, he probably should have called it quits after Rio. He's been holding on for the last few years and won the 100m in 2015 and 2016 on willpower and by psyching out the field. This is an unfortunate end to his career.

I thought everyone agreed that if you dope and are caught you should be immediately banned for life. No second chances!

Like Effimova. Who used doping TWICE.

Like what I said if you got caught TWICE that's it for you. The end. Good Bye.

hm...Simone used drog in her whole life. Fact.

And remember Bolt's reaction..King has to learn!

That is the shame many clean Russians aren't there but an American athlete who used doping TWICE! can be World champion. Double standard.

No, this is not unfortunate end to his career.. This didn't change anything.

I totally agree with you but Simone had tue's! Gatlin was too dumb and maybe just a cheater at heart not to discover tue's. America has an astonishing number of athletes with tue's. All Norwegian skiiers are asthmatics and need asthma medicine and get tue's.

I know. But that is a big advantage..For me a little bit weird so many top athletes have illness. Oh, yes, the Norwegian skiiers are the best, and almost all of them have asthma..After this I ask why they are the best? Because of the asthma medicine? The skiiers who are healthy have no chance against them.. They are working so hard as the asthmatic skiiers but the asthmatic athletes receive a plus factor a plus help..and they can win..

Phil, this whole pantomime was created by the media back in 2015 in Beijing. And you're part of 'the media' right? Just sayin' :shuffle:

It's unfortunate and I don't condone booing but as Steve Cram just said, the public - the people who are paying money to watch this, and thus boost the IAAF coffers - have a right to express their opinions and unfortunately the media have made Gatlin the poster boy for cheating. Yes Merritt cheated and Blake. But the media haven't crucified them in the same way they have with Gatlin. Thus people's distrust of the sport and the whole drugs issue manifests itself in its reaction to Gatlin.

This isn't Gatlin's fault. Under the farce that is the IAAF he is allowed to run. What he is responsible for is not only cheating once but twice and having never apologised for it. The British people are very forgiving, but if he's going to disrespect the fans of the sport by never admitting he was wrong then he can't expect the fans to respect him in return.

ETA: While Phil is obviously keen to make this a Brit v US thing, I distinctly remember home crowds giving Dwayne Chambers a very rough ride back in the day. Brit's don't boo very often but when we do we don't discriminate. ;)

Were the other two busted twice? I mean, he did it once, came back. Not okay in my book but whatever, thems the rules. He never apologised, never acknowledged he did wrong - and then he got busted again. And once again he was allowed to come back, which is a complete utter joke, and still he's never apologised or acknowledged he's done wrong. And now he's in his mid thirties (ie well past his prime) and running faster than he was when he was doping and we're expected to somehow believe he's clean. Yeah, I'm gonna call bullshit on that one until the end of time.

And he ran at the Olympics last year, but people still want all Russians kicked from the Winter Games with zero evidence of doping on the majority of them. That's what I'm having a really hard time handling right now. Apparently, doping's a-okay when the Americans do it.

I'm in the banned for life camp. None of them should be competing IMO, whatever nationality they are.

Gatlin just plays the victim card. He has never once expressed remorse. He's never even explicitly said he's against doping!

Efimova's second one was for Meldonium and legally is not a doping offence per WADA's own rule.

Meldonium F**k up was thanks to WADA's fault.
