2026 Olys Rhythm Dance PBP - Livin' La GOE Loca

I don't recall the complaints about the outfit, I only remember people complaining about kneesocks.

IIRC Guillaume has said that because of his long-term relationship and career opportunities that he decided to make Canada his home.
That’s a reason to become a citizen. Becoming a PR as a world class athlete is a pain in the butt to apply, but solves a lot of other issues while you live in Canada to train, especially for a decade or more, and you can let it lapse if you return home. Or it can be a path to become a citizen if you qualify for whatever reason you choose.

My sister who hasn't been keeping up with skating recently sent me a text asking "what the hell is the rhythm dance and is it mandatory for the women to wear bright red lipstick and move their lips the entire time?" :D
If there is one thing that has bugged me throughout the event is the lipsynching. I suppose easy to do when you know the songs. But I frickin hate it.

The rules at the time were shifting, were passport-dependent, and any agent could have sent her right home.

Do we know the statuses of all of the other teams? If MFD was suggesting marriage to Les Le Gacs, I suspect they were suggesting applying for PR status to anyone who was expected to be long term.

It was Romain Haguenauer who suggested marriage. He brought over Romain in summer 2014 to try out with Marie-Jade as they were both without partners. They got married in December 2015. They talked about this in an interview when the switched to skate for Canada.

On a side note was Gabby vaccinated? Because that was a problem during that time and would have prevented her from re-entry into Canada if she left the country. They started mass vaccinations in Canada December 2020. I needed to be fully vaccinated before I could go visit family there in a similar time period.

That is UNHINGED scoring. Just... wow.

Z/K in 11th really is impossible to justify. Unhinged is the right word. And I say that as a C/P uber.

As far as Laurence's costume, it's worth noting that many other women wore booty shorts and managed to cover their butt. I think the costume is ugly overall, but there's no excuse for how much of her @ss was out.

random unserious thought: given the awfulness of all the 'decades' RD themes, and the success of LNGuttman with Jaws, I propose a Creature Feature theme for a future RD. Godzilla, Kong, Moth ra, the works. Could be fun.
I feel like Lara's program success are because of her skating qualities not the programs. She has had great programs for multiple seasons and they have all been different themes choregraphed by different people.

It was sad for them, but sometimes missing Euros is more serious than other times, and he looked spent after that RD. Even if physically recovered, it was lost training time before the Olympics. Their placement doesn’t reflect their general quality, just yesterday’s circumstance.

The prudes in this thread. :drama:

FWIW I mostly agree with you on the costume. I understood the Madonna reference immediately. While it's risque to skate in what is essentially sexy lingerie, it fits with the Madonna music / image. And is really that much skimpier than other skating costumes?

I don't think the costume is especially well fitting. I wasn't sure if that part was intentional or not.

I didn’t notice anything unusual about the cut of her costume. I doubt any children would either.

ETA: the discussion reminds me of Witt’s SP dress with the strategically-added feathers. Showed a pic of that costume to mini-grace and she couldn’t figure out what was “scandalous” about it.

I remember a Witt costume that showed hair when she did a spiral. I don't think that was deliberate though. Which is why skaters really ought to wear tights. L F-B's dress is no more provocative than Loena's flesh colored slutty dress which makes her look naked.

I don't agree at all. There are plenty of us 'prudes' who have taken issue with her costume all season long. I know that there are many who think we're just old, fuddie-duddies, but figure skating is NOT the same thing as a night out hitting up the clubs.

There are millions of little kids who watch the Olympics every four years and I'm not sure I see the point in throwing butt cheeks in their faces the way Fournier-Beaudry does in the RD. The same can be said about a lot of the dresses we see on skaters every year there is a Latin RD theme.

We all get that it's an homage to Madonna's style & outfits during the '80s & '90s, but that doesn't mean that children don't notice or become desensitized to skimpy clothing. And they certainly have parents who notice and don't appreciate their kids being exposed to it.

For what it's worth, I wish the German WAG unitards had caught on globally and we saw less skin from gymnasts.

Also, don't forget, there are plenty of us who didn't care for Loena's nude leotard bottom of her FS dress 4 years ago.

You may not be nearly as concerned about modesty as some of us and that's your prerogative, but that doesn't mean that, in this instance, you're in the right about it.

Watching gymnastics, diving, artistic swimming, volleyball, etc. If high-cut leotards are a problem for parents, then they probably need to avoid showing their children the Olympics.

This doesn’t even register as skimpy compared to what children will see at the beach or the pool. And not that much different than the short shorts that girls and women wear everywhere in warm months. IMO, the outfit fits within our cultural clothing standards.

I like that this is an option for gymnasts.

Where did I claim to be “in the right” while everyone else is wrong? I literally didn’t notice that her costume was more high-cut than other costumes. But you are right that I’m not concerned.

I had 3" inseam shorts in the 80's, actually 3 pairs. I wore them a lot with my Candi's shoes. I've bought my preteen age granddaughters 3" inseam shorts with frayed holes near the pocket areas.

Long before Madonna, Playtex had bras with the circular pointy nipples. It was a rite of passage to be able to wear one. It was the talk of the gym showers - guess what I got!

I don't think I a prude. I just think the shorts could be a 1/2 inch longer and still make a Madonna statement. I am not a fan of the bra area - not on anyone, actresses, models, athletes, someone walking down the street with the underwire outlines.

I never went clubbing so there's that

The costume is literally an homage to 1990s Madonna circa her Blonde Ambition tour.

Maybe you all were fuddy duddies back in the 1990s, but the rest of us were having :grope: and :smokin: at our dance parties.
Ah, thanks for the video, and I stand by my comment that LFB’s costume has playboy bunny vibes compared to Madonna’s costume. Let me be clear, it’s not the sexual vibes that are problematic to me, more that her costume reads young to me. Jmo of course.

Just because something is an homage doesn't mean it isn't poorly constructed and ugly.
That’s my issue. It did not register as anything other than pink to my six year old. But since she joined a swim team, she sees people in way less pretty often. Competitive swimmers like high cuts and have wedgies more than figure skaters.
