GPdF 2025 PBP - Free Dance “The Chicken Dance”

Didnt know Um Kultum were greek or about the Greek culture, but ok
Maybe we're talking about different programs. 🙃
No, we are talking about the same program - I didn't catch that piece of music in the performance when I watched it the first time. I was referencing the Cleopatra movie that most of the music is from. I will have to re-watch it.

I didn't fully post my thoughts here about Fournier-Beaudry & Cizeron, but wow wow wow. That's the type of Ice Dance we've been missing since 2019 - sophisticated, complex, emotional. It's the best program since Papadkis & Cizeron's Tango RD. I could gush all day long.

Every element flowed naturally into one another. There was creativity like in the one foot turns, how guiilame just held that edge around the corner of the rink before they were back in sink, and then Guilliaume twizzles and then they exit in sync. All those extra turns not in unison don't even count, but it gives the element greater impact and makes the program more like art.

The choreographic assisted jumps, where on the second jump Guillaume holds Laurence against him, lowering her slowly and brushing his hand across the face, all to the pace of the music. IMO the best iteration and use of the choreo asst jumps since the introduction of the element.

The diagonal step reminded me so much of PapCiz, how smooth, fast, and big it was. How they just flowed around and in between on another.

The curve/curve combination lift was so surprising, just holding for the music, and then the curve changes and they pick up with the rhythm. And everything after just follows the music's notes and cues.

There's just almost no wasted time in this Free Dance. It's the perfect fit for them as a pair. It's couture. It's art.

I totally agree with @tony and @Ka3sha - this is the ice dance we've been hungry for. :inavoid:

Oh my gosh, the color of the costumes for the LFB/GC . I want clothes in this color. What is this called? Teal?

Interesting music and I’m glad they did not go to the romantic route. This abstract music I quite like … a little bit similar to that really nice program Caroline and Michael had five years ago.

Very nice, but still could be beatable by Piper and my husband.

🥳

More like the feds with judges on a panel with no skaters at IAM need to raise their voices against the juggernaut.

it's going to an awesome :watch: season of watching the blocs and counter-blocs forming.
Hope that someone skating at IAM writes a book about the internal politics there. Just imaging what the conditions are makes it easy to understand why IAM Ontario is so popular.

I would be very interested in a foreword by Sara Hurtado. IIRC she and Adrian Diaz were the first senior team to train with Marie-France and Patrice, and Diaz got the coaches in the split.

(Picasso still one of the best things to ever come out of that school)

Congratulations to Laurence & Guillaume your Grand Prix Final, European, Olympic and World Championships Gold Medalist 2026!!! with WR scores for every segment

Loved the top 3 and their contrasting styles and the Georgians.

FB/C were great but I think the once every four years audience support is going to be thrown behind Lewis/Gibson - it was a fun program and while a bit hokey at times, has better potential to draw in a crowd by virtue of the music alone as well as their infectious energy.

The Lithuanians are so cheesy but I love them - I'm so happy they came away with a medal.

Loved the Georgian's program too and thought they had some nice moves.

Chalking up the Italians to a major WHAT WERE THEY THINKING moment. An incredibly bland, generic program with zero emotional pull. They may be getting the levels and solid GOE based on their tech skills but this program is giving polite claps against a water bottle energy at best. I was hoping they'd be outscored by the Georgians.

I recognize the skill, and can appreciate the shapes that they’re making, but it’s not a style of program that I love. I enjoy watching the programs of the less skilled teams like F/G and C/B (in terms of blade control) way more. If the RD’s were more enjoyable this season maybe I wouldn’t mind the introspective moody programs as much, but since I’m not enjoying the bulk of the RD, I’m looking to the FD to provide more entertainment. I’ve dance has never been my #1 discipline though.

I can't find it but apparently there's a rule that men have to wear trousers.

It’s hypocrisy because there are more women in pants these days than dresses.

I’m waiting for the day when I can see Poirier and Versluis skate together with kilts.
Oh ok yeah I remember that became a rule bc ppl were so scandalized by Zhulin's tights but thought they later changed it which allowed John to wear a kilt.

And yes it is hypocrisy!!! :angryfire

I just love skating, all of it. This season is just all about the joy and feels of it for me. Seeing FB/Ciz skate together was a complete joy and that was a gorgeous program. What a wonderful surprise seeing them as a team. I didn't appreciate him back in the day, what a beautiful skater he is and with Laurence, it's just perfection.

I’m wondering how long the IAM-IAMO alliance will last. Right now everyone seems buddy-buddy, but Moir, Hubbell, and Diaz are ambitious people and inevitably, there are going to be hard-fought battles between the two programs. For example, IAM’s Fabbri/Ayer v. IAMO’s L/LG for the last spot on Canada’s Olympic team. Not sure the current setup is sustainable.

I'm quite curious to see what happens after 2026 when the CarPoms and the LaLas will both be competing for podium spots.

honestly i think they should just break free after this season and go their own way. And I think they could be successful.

I seem to recall that she was writing one but I don't think it's out yet.

I recall Papadakis posting on Instagram that she had received the proofs of her book from the publisher. That was about a month or so ago. I got the impression the book would be out this winter.

Of course I've been fantasizing about how the book might come out right before the Olympics, be filled with juicy revelations and cause mass hysteria in the figure skating world. No doubt I'll be disappointed.

She just posted that she did not leave competitive skating to do shows but because it was unhealthy. I’m still holding out hope and the publisher is smart to wait until winter to release it.
