Because Ricky is late 90s and George Michael’s biggest hits are almost all 80s (and Sade too). Why though? Ricky Martin? Does anybody have a Sade or George Michael RD?

Yes! I saw that one. I liked it!I think Bekker/Hernandez are using Freedom by George Michael
They are using Freedom and Killer/Papa Was A Rolling Stone, both by George Michael (and it's fabulousI think Bekker/Hernandez are using Freedom by George Michael
Five different teams got a ! call for their choreographic step sequence. For Y/M and R/M it was the difference between getting or losing a spot. Also, reading the rules on when a team deserves a ! call is leaving me more confused than before, especially since it doesn't seem like they were fully followed (max GOE in this case should be -1, and teams got 0,+1 for it).Did the others below the Spanish Ice Dance Team mess up so bad? I didn't see anything really special about them. Am I missing something?
Incorrect. GOE should be reduced by 2 GOEs as per an update last year sometime, so you're probably looking at an outdated scoring matrix. At one point last season I was sure the ISU was going around their rules for this same thing, only to find that they never uploaded the most updated rules to their dumb website.Five different teams got a ! call for their choreographic step sequence. What @angi wrote, and also levels and GOE on other elements played a role. Reitan/Majorov got a level 2 for twizzles (Milla) and also a level 2 for one of their combination lifts. Yoshida/Morita got higher levels (their technical base was actually one of the highest), but lower GOE and PCS. Lifts are a bit of a weakness for them and there was also low GOE for the spin. And I agree that they were not as fast and confident in the FD as in the RD.Did the others below the Spanish Ice Dance Team mess up so bad? I didn't see anything really special about them. It's possible, I was looking at this one that is still up on the ISU website as the most updated version of the "Grade of Execution of Required Elements (including Choreographic Elements)" (published August 30th, 2023), and I didn't see an updated version here: https://www.isu.org/figure-skating-rules/?tab=Handbooks Ice DanceIncorrect. Thanks, so when they say "the ChSt (skated before or after the required Step Sequence) receives the “!” symbol on the Judges' screen, and the Judges will apply the appropriate GOE per the GOE chart", then the interpretation is 2 GOE points below what they thought it should get? I sure preferred the old rule.
As I said, it was not only the choreographic sequence.Hmm...but none of these teams moved me like the Swedish Team. It looked like they used the rules to hose them. Sigh. Funny eh?
Pairs got only 3. There are less places for pairs and dance at the Olympics (and also at all other big international competitions) than for singles altogether, so less extra places too.Do all the other disciplines get 5 spaces? So why did they give dance only 4 places?
However, this is somewhat ridiculous; it significantly limits the creativity of the dancers in creating a wow effect. Because I was watching the Chinese team, and that Batman program was neat, but I was desperately waiting for them to lift the tempo, for it to have some lift, it came across as flat. I much preferred the Swedish Team, and they had beaten them based on the original scores. However, they then cut them down, I believe, to ensure that the Chinese team advanced. It looks really suspicious. They should protest, and the ISU should concede. Thanks, so when they say "the ChSt (skated before or after the required Step Sequence) receives the “!” symbol on the Judges' screen, and the Judges will apply the appropriate GOE per the GOE chart", then the interpretation is 2 GOE points below what they thought it should get? Only 3? Sad. Each discipline should have gotten 5. It's the OG. Oh well, I guess they'll be motivated to continue.Pairs got only 3. There are less places for pairs and dance at the Olympics (and also at all other big international competitions) than for singles altogether, so less extra places too.
It's about the number of athletes spots allocated by the IOC. Figure skating has seen a reduced number of athletes in each of the past two Olympic cycles - dance down from 24 to 23 entries, and now singles down to 29 from 30 entries - to make space for new sports.Only 3? Hmmm. The rules are rough, but it is what it is.It's about the number of athletes spots allocated by the IOC.
