This is a general discussion thread for all things ice dance. A place where fans of all ice dance teams can discuss their favorite heart-stopping moments, tear-inducing mistakes, costume malfunctions, and whatever else the ice dance world throws at us.

Welcome to the loooong road to Milano!

I haven't been following the ice dance news lately, does anyone have a TL: DR summary of the past few months?

I hope you like back street boys and ricky martin, coaching changes were afoot, Dune part II, shawn rettstatt is still hate criming us, a couple break-ups, a couple strange new partnerships, citizenship woes abound, it's going to be a long season

hopefully someone will be more useful than me

Notable splits:
  • Bashynska/Beaumont (she's teaming up with a French skater; he is rumored to be teaming up with Molly Lanaghan)
  • Grimm/Savitskiy (she got married and teamed up with her husband)
  • Flores/Desyatov (she teams up with a French skater, they skated at Lake Placid this weekend, scores weren't great)
All of the teams were basically silent since Worlds and then woke up this weekend and chose chaos and announced their music at the same time. The 2025/26 music selection thread is posting the announcements, but most notable FDs are Smart/Dieck, who are doing Dune part 2, Orihara/Pirinin, who are doing Mouling Rouge but the musical not the movie, The Taschlers who are doing the Matrix, T/V are keeping their FD, R/A will skate to Faithless, L/B will skate to Bjork. And there are tons of Ricky Martin RDs.
And I'm still probably missing a lot more teams.

On this one, I'm not sure what the source of the rumors was (I saw something about it awhile back, too) but I think Molly may be retired; looks like she'll be hosting an interview(?) show soon, based on this Instagram account.

I think it came purely from an instagram video where they were skating together - but it wasn't clear if they were just messing around or a partnership

Yeah, Molly Lanaghan seems to be based back in the UK now and enjoying attending the opening of an envelope every other night. Beaumont appears to be sticking with Carol Lane, and if he's got a new partner the instagrammers of Scarborough are keeping it off their socials.

I've got to say this once, and I will try not to repeat it at every competition that S&D compete at this season:

But as one of the human beings on the planet who really couldn't stand Dune (the dance program) and was so glad to be done with it at the end of last season . . .

You've got to be kidding me!

Beaumont is stood beside someone in the third slide of Turkkila/Versluis’s July 18th post, but I’m not aware of who she is or if she’s his partner. Nobody is tagged.

Oh and some pre-Oly programs debuted at Lake Placid were quite good, especially the medalists Browns, Les Gacs, Koreans. Tchakenko/Killiakov are light years ahead of Ichilov/new partner, assuming no citizenship issues they should be a lock for Beijing qualifying.

Flores’ new partner not in her league and she looked pretty sour off the ice. No-name US team (to non-Americans) Cui/Rogers have a stunning FD. Abo/Ves class of Junior field. That’s the short version of reports from last week.

assuming no citizenship issues they should be a lock for Beijing qualifying.
There are no citizenship or TES minimum requirements for the qualifier, aside from the basic ISU requirements that at least one partner is a citizen or resident. The only restriction besides basic eligibility for internationals is that the entries can’t have qualified for the FD at last Worlds.

Yes, anyone other than the skater/team who qualified for FS/FD at Worlds (if applicable) can go to Beijing to earn the spot. The spot then belongs to the country, not the skater. But I agree that T/K will be in Beijing, and if they do earn the spot, barring injury or citizenship problems, they will be at the Olys.

I do think Ichilov/Noso have a lot of potential, so i hope they stay together and compete in the next quad, even if they don't make it to Milan.

I'm sure Israel would decide later in the season about Euros/Olympics/Worlds berths; but I do assume this was the one for the qualifier & that we should be seeing T/K there.

Thanks. I forgot about the move to the new thread.
Also, I forgot one additional name being delated:
Ubavka Kutinou-Novakovic - Bosnia (again...she was delated mid-season in 2023/24 season..then she was back last season..and now gone again)

Selby and Wolter turning 70 means that the ISU technical committee will see 2 new members at the elections scheduled for 2026 Congress

And just like that, Tkachenko/Kiliakov have announced their retirement from competitive skating.

I guess this means IchiNoso are getting the OQE assignment for Israel.

WT actual F??!!

I’m going to stop rooting for ice dance teams, I feel like I’ve been the kiss of death for Nguyen/Kol, HawBak, Flor/Des and now T/K.

Uh, ok? Weird.

Has Kiliakov Sr. anyone left? WISA seemed such a promising coaching team few years ago.

Take note, Zanni :shuffle:

Why would they compete at Lake Placid with new programs and then suddenly retire?
Apparently that was a holdover FD, I didn’t remember it.

Maybe they set themselves a goal of medaling and didn’t achieve it? Maybe he’s reinjured?

All I can think is that they could manage any residual pain lingering from the injury that took them out of Euros but competing at Lake Placid made them realize they couldn't take a full season grind.
