If Isabel skates to that Dua Lipa song I would be completely shocked. Her Material Girl was not bad for SOI. It is nice to see her doing things some people might not expect from her. It should help make her a better performer trying more upbeat numbers.

I would be very surprised if she did a competitive program to Dua Lipa as well. As I said, it might just be a song clip unrelated to the program. It also could be an exhibition program she is working on. The only video I've seen of her doing the Madonna program was the first time she performed it. And I don't think she had much time to prepare it. So, I'm not going to take that as an indication of what a Dua Lipa program would look like. I do think it's good that she experimented with something different. (I wish she would experiment with different choreographers, too.) But, as much as I want her to experiment with music styles and as much as I like the Barbie soundtrack, I'm hoping that this music is not for one of her competitive programs.

I like the song and think it would be fine for a competitive program someone like Starr or Ava Marie or Audrey, maybe. But, it just doesn't seem to fit Isabeau's competitve style and aesthetic as a skater. Same would be true for Lindsay or Bradie.

I think you got it right about skaters doing these tortured ballads that are only meaningful to them, and not an entire audience.

All of Isabeau's music selections fall into the category of not a tortured ballad meaningful only to her.

I don't see people in this thread saying they don't like the music. (I like the song. That's one of the reasons I recognized it. I'm very familiar with the song and think it would be difficult for Isabeau and her coach to use it for a good competitive program, though I suppose it could be part of a medley. OTOH, with the right choreographer and time, I think she could do a good exhibition program with it.)

Given Isabeau's history of competitive programs and given that her coach is doing the choreography again this season, would anyone really have expected her to skate a competitive program to this song?

What’s confusing to you? I’m a fan of Dua Lipa, so I would be happy if somebody, anybody, were to skate to one of her songs. That would be true for any artist I’m a fan of… even if I have to prepare myself for some of the PBP posts hating on the song.

I’m actually confused with your response to me. I don’t believe there was anything that I wrote or anything in the post I quoted that would warrant you to feel that anybody was making some sort of personal attack.

This is a skating board, so when you said that you were a "fan of hers," I thought you were saying that you were a fan of Isabeau's. Now I realize that you meant that you were a fan of Dua Lipa's. Sorry for the confusion.

People can like the music (as I do) and not think it's great for a competitive program. There is music that I love that I don't think necessarily makes for good music for competitive skating programs.

I’m a big fan of Isabeau and prefer classical music for her because she is one of the few skaters currently competing who can really do classical music justice with her lovely line, extension and grace. Her Swan program is for me one of the most memorable programs in recent memory. But I also think she can be very versatile, judging by some of her earlier programs when she was coming up the ranks. It’s a good time to experiment styles for her. I’m excited to see what she does this year, though I was hoping she would try a different choreographer like Lori Nichol, Tom Dixon or someone who does classical, sophisticated programs well.
