Chinese skating news & social media updates pt. 5, 2023 onwards

But not Pairs, Men, and Women?

Guesses, then? Ice Dance obviously Wang/Liu and Chen/Xing.

Men: Jin, Day, and?
Literally who for women apart from An?
Peng/Wang, Zhang/Yang and who for Pairs?
Well, based on the results of the first two Interclub Competitions, I'd say that the leading contenders are:

Men - Zhiming Peng
Women - Ruotang Li, Yi Zhu, Shiqi Gao, Wandi Xu
Pairs - no one? that 3rd spot might very well be given back
Dance - can't see anyone else displacing Wang/Liu or Chen/Xing

I've started a thread for Chinese domestic competitions this season in Kiss & Cry section: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/2023-24-chinese-domestic-competitions.110844/

ETA:

Well, based on the results of the first two Interclub Competitions, I'd say that the leading contenders are:

Women - Ruotang Li, Yi Zhu, Shiqi Gao, Wandi Xu

Yi is the only senior eligible one among these four - Ruotang and Shiqi will (hopefully) debut in JGP this season and Wandi is also of junior age.

Hello, my name is Xiaoyu Yu. I'm a former Olympian pair skater from China. I am currently looking for a pair skater boy who would like to participate in this year's Holiday on Ice show with me or other future contracts after this September 10th. If you are available and interested about doing shows together, please contact me for further information. Thank you so much.

Nini’s new short program
Need her to be taken away from Benoit Richaud and her mother.

What is this Orientalist fetish Richaud's got into his head? He did that "Egyptian hip hop" garbage for Miyahara IIRC. Voldemort is the best nickname for him.

This program is choreographed by Yea-ji Shin, not Benoit.

Says Benoit on wikipedia. The LP is by Shin for sure, since it says so on Nini fanclub instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cu1UqE-uA1V

ETA: https://www.instagram.com/p/CvEFuvFLANI/ Ok, guess wiki is wrong. I am amazed someone else thought this was a good idea. Why is Richaud listed as choreographer on her isuresults page then?

I'm actually fairly sure it's got Richaud's hand in it though, lol https://youtu.be/raQqWBR6DEc?t=176 (compare the music cut to the end of Nini's, where she does the combo spin)

I second this. Seems like a terrible choice for a senior debut. Added points to second hand embarrassment whenever someone does an Egyptian theme program…

I recall seeing a comment on Reddit (with quite a bit of upvotes) that Nini’s Theory of Everything FS was a knockoff of Miyahara’s Song for the Little Sparrow SP. Personally, I don’t see it but I’m afraid people will draw similar conclusions with this new SP. What’s with Benoit’s packaging??

I think the good things about it I can see are that it's got detailed body movement, and she does an extremely difficult exit out of her layback. So some crotchety old judges who dun curr abou' no orientalism might give it decent pcs, but I have my fingers crossed tight the LP is better. This is just amateur work that will make many uncomfortable about a fresh senior.

https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1TV41157qR/ Hongyi competed here. Definitely not competition-ready.

https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1oz4y1x7o9/ Xiangyi. I can't.

ETA: I think Beverly might get that host spot by default. Not that I mind, but she scored lower than two other girls in the SP, just that they seem to be juniors. Well, she was injured, hope she's recovering properly. Very likely that China will give up its third host spot for Women. (Correction: She scored lower than multiple girls in the SP, and apart from Xiangyi seems like they are all juniors)

David Dai truly and nearly inherits everything from Yan Han, gorgeous skating skills and presentation. And he is potentially marketable.

But seeing him still have trouble with some necessary jumps like 3A and Quad makes me hugely question about the investments from CFSA or Chinese sports authority. I understand that investing in some established skaters is a safer option, but can those skaters like Jin and Wang/Liu really achieve anything bigger when they receive most of the bugget and investments from the authority in a couple of seasons? They should be bold and truly invest their money in true talents, and skaters like Dai, Tian, An, Li/Wang and Chen/Xing should be significantly invested.

Isn't Day 20? I don't think he will be getting a 3A, although he very much should have been invested into a long time back.

About the others, I am not sure where you're getting An not being invested into, when she's been to Korea and added Richaud to her coaching this season.

Agree about Tian and the dance teams.

Liza got a quad at 25, i mean she is the empress but i think she proves that it is possible to gain ultra-c elements past 15

One person does not an argument make, and even she used to practice and land them when she was 17 or something. She had a 3A too. Not 20 with no higher jumps.

David's bad luck to me seemed he was born in Guangdong, but tbh even then, it's strange to see Zhiming having so many quads, if they're really from the same province. Some people are simply not born with that jumping talent.

I dont think it is difficult for a guy to pick up a new difficult jump in a later age coz they can easily gain power and muscles compare to girls.

I believe An's Mom and her local team covered everything about her choreography, but get nothing from the central sports authority.

When has this ever happened? As you grow older you are more likely to get injured.

Quads and 3A also need faster rotation speed than the other jumps, the body awareness for which is harder to gain as an adult.

An definitely needs better coaching. Whatever it is next season, hopefully at least she's away from her mother. And someone better than Richaud.

ZHANG Jiaxuan/ HUANG Yihang ( gril is too young for the senior circuit and boy is too old for the junior circuit and badmouthing his previous partner saying her" too fat") nailed quad twist in the training session in the Interclub league.

Kevin Van der Perren didn’t start landing a 3A until he was 19, and it shot his results up in that season from not qualifying to the LPs to being just outside the top 10 as a total unknown in SLC ‘02. And then he lost the 3A for the better part of 2 seasons afterwards but eventually got it back.

Lambiel also had a real struggle to actually ‘get’ the 3A until he was 17, and even then, it remained a really hit or miss jump for a long time.

I saw on social media that Davide Lewton Brain is finally landing a 3A, and he’s 24.

David is with Yan Han's old coach now. Surely, she can teach him how to jump the 3A. Let's see.

I do think he deserves better choreography, and hopefully he will get that next season.

And I think people shouldn't forget that the achievements of both Yan and Jin were entirely with their native coaches. There's a lot at fault with the Chinese fed, but telling yourself just some additional foreign investment will fix everything isn't it. It's true for every country out there; you don't get to go just because you're talented - it's just a waste of money if it craps out. I will definitely argue about the ice dance teams because of politics and reputation that needs to be built, but the other three disciplines not so much.
