Maybe Liza travels with them as a coach, if not skater? She’s still practicing!
Smart for her to continue practicing and for the team to credential her as a coach if they will do that. That way she will be in Beijing snd ready if anything happens. What if someone tests positive after team event. what is policy to replace a single skater?

Not sure how they can credential her as a coach - isn't each skater/team only allowed one coach?

Interview with Betina Popova
  • Loves commenting more than skating.
  • Celebrated the New Year's alone - just went to sleep at 8pm and had a nice sleep
  • Separated from Khodykin before the GP in Russia, they keep working together, they keep being in touch, but...
  • They had too much time together and had no borders and it was too much
  • She has an explosive character, when she was skating with Mozgov it was terrible since he is equally explosive.
  • She had a car accident and since she became a calm driver. After the accident she called Mozgov and continued to the practice despite not hearing anything - Mozgov had to tap the rhythm on her back - she couldn't hear the music.
  • She had 8 concussions and now she doesn't think it was worth it
  • Mozgov is working in Lyapina's group with the little kids. She is not really in touch with Mozgov, but they are in an ok relationship.
  • Mozgov was not fan of her and Khodykin's relationship - they used to be best friends. More than that - Krylova asked Popova not to date Khodykin because she thought Mozgov would not like it. Popova was shocked Krylova dared to get into her private life.
  • Popova did not want to be in a relationship with a skating partner after having a relationship with the previous partner and it was a terrible thing.
  • They don't choose the music themselves, it's always the coach's choice and she hated it. Now she offers her skaters to bring the music.
  • Popova/Mozgov declined skating to Bolero - they didn't have the lines, the ability. They did not want to skate to the masterpiece and in the end they got Bohemian Rhapsody which suited them better. Popova still has no idea what on earth was she supposed to depict in that programme - it was clear with Mozgov, but what was she? Krylova never answered her.
  • They began skating (with Mozgov) and took a Muse track but no one saw that programme, then changed it, then to something classical. They loved the `Carmen' programme, seemed like they found their style, they kept working with the same coach and the coach decided they should do the vampires next season. Why? We just found something classical that suited us! Then they switched to Krylova who did `Master and Margarita' for them, the characters were great, even though there were things that Popova did not necessarily like.
  • Popova can't define what was their style. They were all over the place.
  • Figure skating is more conservative than the ballroom dance
  • She financially supported her previous partner - he lived at her place, she fed him etc. Mozgov sometimes needed a bit of financial support. There are more male partners than female and it's a usual thing that the female partner supports the male partner. While Mozgov payed her all back her previous partner did not and she was just glad to get rid of him.
  • Her parents live in Cyprus, her mom is a housewife, father works in some kind of a company, Popova is not sure what is he doing.
  • She will move to Cyprus one day, but it will make her to change her life completely. She can move there whenever - she has the residency right there. She loves everything about Cyprus.
  • She has a very painful period and she had a case when she could not get out of bed and she had to skate in a competition. They ended up winning
  • She never dared to use the hormonal treatments to postpone her periods because she was afraid what it might do to her body - whether she'll get fatter or how her doping test would look like
  • She would love to see the same sex couples on the ice, she thinks it would be super cool. If the ballet allows a dance of 4 knights or swans, why not 2 men? 2 men can do much more interesting elements than a girl and a boy. Popova thinks it would be a really cool sport.
  • About LeDuc: they are a great skater, they are a great thing for our sport, it's great that they can go to the Olympics openly, it's their live and they should live it the way they should.
  • Her relationship with her parents are great, they always supported her both emotionally and financially, she was always allowed to do whatever and she was never pressed to keep skating or retire.
  • They are taught how to speak to the press and it's always `I'm always happy with what I did, thank everyone...'. she spoke out and her coaches were mad at her for speaking out.
  • Her instagram is for her mom - mom calls and says there are no photos, so she goes `ok, mom, will post in a sec' and then posts.

This report says that Gleikhengauz and Kogan have both tested positive for CV19 but still plan to fly to Beijing?

I don't get it? It's suggested that they're claiming these are false positive results.

It's being discussed in the "Kolyada Withdrawn" thread.

I don't see how the Chinese will allow them in. Moreover, don't they need negative test results to fly, or is it not applicable to charter flights?

It is time this whole group learns to follow rules.

Is it possible that they are thinking of flying after 10-14 days and if they provide negative test results? I have not read the article.

What a civilised, mature and classy young woman Betina! So, so sad she did not achieve her fullest potential. At least she is at peace with herself and is free to do what she wants now.

I think they're departing today or tomorrow.

According to this article, FSFR press officer Olga Yermolina said Team Russia will leave Krasnoyarsk on Feb. 1st.

She's even cooler than I'd thought her to be! You don't disappoint, Betina!

As per usual from this camp the health and well being of the athletes is not a priority. It's far more important to stroke the (inflated) egos of the choreographer and coaches. If I were Eteri though, I would not want him anywhere near me and my athletes (but I am not Eteri).

Very revealing with respect to the attitudes of Russian coaches towards their girls. It lines up exactly with Maddie Hubbells experience. Good on her.
I'm sliding off topic, but can you elaborate or give me a link or a thread title? What was Maddie's experience?

Useless characters.

Good news!

All skaters of the Russian Olympic team currently at the training camp in Krasnoyarsk have passed the final tests for COVID -19. All test results are negative.

On February 1, early in the morning, the Russian team flies from Krasnoyarsk to Beijing to participate in the Olympic Games.

Good luck to them! Safe flight(s), good health, and great performances!

Anna posted on her IG a "morning routine" while at Krasnoyarsk, and it looks like they were being tested daily and definitely had protocols in place.

I found the idea that they wouldn’t silly.

Nothing unusual or out of the norm, just alludes to insults from Krylova regarding her weight. Krylova still makes a note of Hubbells weight even to this day in the press. It just leaves a dancer feeling very vulnerable. Just that...I cannot find a link at this time. But really nothing new.
