The 2021 Athletics Thread

I love watching Athing Mu run. It looks like she's just casually jogging down the track. Also she did a year at Texas A&M, so I'm required by alumni law to cheer for her.

Not talking about the athlete, but the people who are criticising her. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.
Oh okay.

Personally, I wish they wouldn't play the anthem at most sports competitions. Though Olympic Trials, where athletes are competing to represent their country, is probably the aptest sporting event for an anthem so I can't complain too much about them doing it here. I just don't know why they didn't do it first thing in the AM and picked one particular medal ceremony to do it while not doing it at the others. It does seem like a setup.

It’s still Nationals though. Not like any other countries are competing. :shuffle:

True.

And it makes no sense to do it for a podium ceremony in this situation as every podium member is from the US.
They don't do it for the medal ceremonies at those trials. Apparently they play the anthem once a day, and it just happened to "coincide" with this particular medal ceremony. It does seem odd it happened for this one and no others.

Set up.

Yep - I knew it was going to be gone soon. And I think both the men’s and women’s 400m hurdles WRs are going to drop again this season. Maybe in Tokyo.

I don't know if it's changes in technology, technique, or a year of restricted competition due to the pandemic, but it seems like the stage is set for an amazing track & field meet at the Tokyo Olympics.

Some developing news about Sha'Carri:

Some developing news about Sha'Carri:

Weed isn't a performance-enhancing drug and is legal in many places. I don't get why it's on the WADA list.
The article has been edited - it no longer includes the name of the drug.

American sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson looks set to miss the Olympic Games after her US Olympic Trials performance was disqualified because she tested positive for a prohibited substance.

Definitely not a PED but I assume it's on the list to prohibit athletes like drivers from driving while under the influence.
