A quick search of the internet yielded this in the NYT:We don’t know what she knows she isn’t even allowed to pick her own lawyer. One of Britney’s ex boyfriends has stated she has been asking for them to take away the conservation and been ignored.
I want to be clear I am saying there may be a reason she is on it but I do think California laws are messed up.
people shouldn’t be able to benefit financially like Britney’s family is and they Should not be forced to work.
“I didn’t know I could petition the conservatorship to be ended,” Ms. Spears, 39, told the judge during a live feed of the hearing. “I’m sorry for my ignorance, but I honestly didn’t know that.” She added, “My attorney says I can’t — it’s not good, I can’t let the public know anything they did to me.
It is simply silly to think that she could not have petitioned the court.
Britney could have walked into any law office, and found an attorney who would have either represented her, pointed her in the right direction, or helped her draft a petition herself to submit to the court.
She is not without funds. And, you can hire an attorney for $1.00, with an agreement to pay later.
A brief submitted to the court has to be reviewed and considered. And shoot! she could have filed papers herself. The necessary papers and instructions are available online for the LASC.
IMO her "statement" in court did more to underline her need for a conservancy than to plead her case. “Now I’m telling you the truth, OK?” Ms. Spears said. “I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry it’s insane.”
It appears that she did not submit a formal statement but rather was given permission to talk. If granted permission by the court to speak, a person can say any whakadoodle thing they like as long as they are not stopped by the Judge. Britney simply standing in court talking does not carry a lot of weight. She was not (to my knowledge) sworn in, nor was she questioned as would be expected. Her verbal statement cannot be taken as truth. Could it be true? Sure. Could it be false?
In the words of Elle Woods: On our very first day at Harvard, a very wise professor quoted Aristotle: "The law is reason free from passion."
I would assume she is perfectly capable to handle this matter in the legal paths available to her. If she is not capable of doing that, or just chooses not to, that speaks to her need for a conservator. There are not a separte set of rules if you are famous and wealthy (remember she is not without money).
BTW - if Britney took out her IUD, and got pregnant. What is anyone going to do about that? Fine her? Hold her in contempt? Nada is the answer to that.
