Say what now?

Dems are fighting words!!

Who are D and J? Duhamel (as Much as I love her) can stay in her lane.

I hope she tells us where she thinks the Canadian ladies will finish? Will they advance to the free even? As much as I love them.
No thoughts on the Canadian ladies from Dave, Jonathan and Meagan.

I don't agree with their assessment of Bradie's chances against Satoko, but that's also because I felt like she was on a downward trajectory last season with more focus on her URs, especially as she is now the #3 Japanese lady.

They dissed the Koreans for all being in the image of Yuna Kim stylistically (they're not wrong, lol), and felt like Amber should have gotten the Worlds spot over Karen, though admitted that Karen will probably get higher PCS internationally than Amber - essentially they'll finish in the same range and have no hope for top 5 (probably accurate).

The ladies field is very strong and deep, and Canada is sending two inexperienced women (both first timers). I'd love to see them do well but I would be surprised if they cracked top 10.

@olympic @AngieNikodinovLove, I've posted the TSL video link cued up to the ladies' discussion here: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...21-who-will-finish-top-6.108120/#post-5969234

ETA:

TeamUSA.org's Worlds preview included some quotes from Tom Zakrajsek about Bradie:
“It really is about taking it to that next level,” Zakrajsek said. “It has been fun to dissect every element, every movement on video. … I describe it as survival practice sessions, meaning you put yourself under the kind of scrutiny and pressure where you only settle for the highest of the highest.”
Although Tennell is working on a triple Axel, the skater does not plan on trying it next week.
“She has not done (triple Axel) the last two weeks,” he said. “She was rotating them really close to fully clean. It was tough; we talked about whether or not she would throw some at practice (in Stockholm), and we decided to take a little break from it and come back to it as soon as worlds is over.”
One advantage Tennell arguably has over her younger rivals is mature, nuanced presentation, something she and her choreographer, Benoit Richaud, have worked hard to achieve.
“It’s something I’m very proud of, because it definitely did not come naturally to me,” she said. “Of course, I find jumping the most exciting thing about the sport, but it’s not all about the jumping. I’m so excited that all of my work and all of my efforts, and Benoit’s efforts, are coming through now.”

Dave Lease and Jonathan. Meagan was the most digestible of the 3. But, isn't that always the case when they have a knowledgeable guest? LOL

IDK. I felt that considering Bradie's comeback from last Autumn to reclaim her National title, they could've at least mentioned that, as well as the fact that her strongest 3-3 was the final pass in her LP which to me shows strong determination.

They also stated that Kaori was 'far' ahead of Bradie which was a little jaw-dropping, Jonathan said the final group was going to be 3 JPN and 3 RUS ladies (Satoko ahead of Bradie), and Dave then said Yelin Kim was the one most likely to breakthrough. For me, all a real

I posted on YT something similar to the above and actually raised a response from them; No. We are not dissing Bradie.

Disagree. Johnny Weir's commentary is articulate, astute, and appropriate, and he's exuberant on occasion, when the moment is magic (which I love); at other times he's measured.

Great commentary is a distinctly separate skill from doing great interviews.

ETA: Also, Tara has really improved in the past couple of years, gotten more measured and talks less. I think she listened and learned.
Thank you so much for the laugh.

Yes Great commentary is a distinctly separate skill . One that neither one of these two sideshow acts have

That seems like a pretty realistic result. Bradie Tennell won US Nationals, but it wasn't her best skate, and the caller was generous, and finishing 7th at World would be a solid result for her.

Well I guess we will find out this week

The US ladies did amazing! Placement after the short are much better than predicted.
Actually Bradie didn't do as well as was expected or the US would be in even better position to get 3 spots since Karen did so well. Now they both need to attack in the FS to stay where they are in the standings even though someone like Trusova will be hard to stay ahead of.

We are in a good place, actually, I think, to earn a 3rd spot.

Satoko is a good 10 points behind Bradie and 15 points behind Karen. I don't see Satoko out-performing either of them. Even if Trusova skates lights out and winds up ahead of Karen and Bradie, that still puts them in 5th & 8th. I think it's very likely Bradie will do much better in the FS and pull ahead of Karen, who has a 5.5 point cushion over Lee of KOR.

Right now, I think it's likely that the US & KOR ladies will finish 5th-8th in some order, with Bradie & Yelim probably in 5th-6th while Haein & Karen are 7th-8th, and both countries will have the potential to qualify a 3rd lady at Nebelhorn as a result.

To be fair, I think most people expected that Tennell would finish behind Trusova and possibly Lee and Miyahara, but she didn't.

Karen and Bradie can place anywhere on the 4th-8th range if they skate relatively well (key word is relatively) and it depends on how the other skaters in this range skate in the LP as well. They just have to not end up in the dreaded 7th and 8th places where they would be one placement from gaining a third spot. However, if one or both of them don't skate well...

That said, I'm going to enjoy Karen's 4th place finish here right now. It may be fleeting but she faced so many doubts and negativity going into Worlds that I'm going to enjoy any sort of victory I can, no matter how small. I also don't think placing fourth in the SP at a incredibly stacked and TES-strong Worlds is a small victory.

So how does it work to qualify a 3rd lady at Nebelhorn? I always Nebelhorm was for countries that earn Olympic spots through Worlds.
Here is the ISU memo

Basically, since we only have 2 skaters at Worlds, if they finish with 13 or less points then the US has the opportunity to send a lady to Nebelhorn to earn the 3rd Olympics spot from the 6 places still up for grabs.

In the past, the U.S. or any country wouldn't have to send a skater to Nebelhorn to earn the third spot if they earned it at Worlds. They'd just have it. But this year, not only do they have to earn it at Worlds here, the skater chosen at Nebelhorn has to get one of the 6 places up for grabs there. And that only earns the third (or earned) spot, it doesn't guarantee that the skater who got a top 6 spot at Nebelhorn will have that Olympic spot reserved for her specifically. The Federation (through Nationals and/or their own BOW criteria) has the final choice.

Can the skater at Nebelhorn be one of the skaters who contributed to the opportunity at a 3rd (or 2nd?) spot at the previous season's World Championships?

I read the memo - no, it can not.

These ISU members are entitled to enter one (1) Skater in the qualifying event who had not qualified for the Free Skating/Free Dance at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2021.

I guess they don't want multiple countries to send like the reigning world medalist or top 7-ish finisher to get a top 6 spot at Nebelhorn because it would kind of go against the spirit behind the idea of gaining spots at Nebelhorn. Like it should be a potential second or third skater from that country to prove they are competitive with the other skaters competing there as well.

Totally agree, once again Karen proves that the quality of her skating is world class!

Definitely. I've said it here before, but every time I've seen Karen skate live at nationals, I'm bowled over by her speed and height/distance covered in her jumps. Plus fast beautiful spins and that gorgeous spiral. She's so far ahead of almost all the other US ladies. I'm thrilled she's in 4th.
