She's always had that MO, though. Some queens come to the competition without any family or life baggage, have a plan, and just want to get through it and rock it, because why shouldn't they be confident? But we are treated to the build up of so much drama, the constant planned 'let's have a deep discussion during makeup time prior to the runway', 'let's pull out a sob story on the runway when things don't go well because it might save me', producer twists or Rupaul running from one side of the room to the other to spill some gossip, and then let it all blow up only so she can save the day and bring everyone together.I could do without the inner saboteur nonsense that's popped up the last few seasons.
In the first season, it was a final 3 or final 4 podcast/radio interview in which Ru tried to pull out all kinds of inner feelings, and it stayed that kind of method for a while. I totally get that the LGBTQ community as a whole has generally had some kind of rough period in their upbringing or even throughout their coming to terms with who they are as young adults, but IMO not everyone has to have a sob story narrative nor do actions need to be taken to try to draw emotions out that didn't necessarily need to be there. But it's not only RPDR -- look at The Voice and American Idol. Almost every contestant featured has some long dramatic history to get the audience emotionally involved.
