From Russia with Love [#31]: Winter to Spring 2019

Russian media making a scandal out of a 13-year-old Russian skater (Anastasia Shabotova) saying in an Instagram message that the "right doping" helps to achieve consistency.

The Russian article quotes her as follows:
"Как выступать стабильно? Пьешь много допинга и выступаешь стабильно. Вот и все. Только надо "правильный" допинг пить"

"How to perform consistently? You take a lot of doping and you skate consistently. That's all. You just have to take the 'right' doping".

Link to article (in Russian): https://rsport.ria.ru/20190121/1549645078.html

I guess it was meant to be a joke, but it is not very smart to make that kind of joke right now with Russia and doping, at least not in public. The right doping is probably chocolate ... ;-)

A perfect example of why children shouldn't be on the internet without supervision.

The reaction is not a surprise since WADA will be meeting in the next few days (22nd or 23rd) to discuss reimposing ban on RUSADA. They have plenty of other things to worry about. RUSADA chief made a desperate plea not to reimpose sanction yesterday, so this is problematic for them.

Why do they want to reimpose the sanction?

The deadline for giving access to obtain the data from the Moscow lab where Rodichenko worked was Dec 31st. Russia missed this deadline, the data was only retrieved few days ago. As the deadline imposed was very strict, and this was part of the deal for lifting the ban on RUSADA. Many countries (UK, Norway, US, etc) feel that this violation is enough to reimpose the sanctions.

What kind of an idiot would miss the deadline in a situation like this? Rhetorical question. But lack of discipline in handling this important issue is mind boggling.

It was a big mistake. It seems the Russians think no one can dictate them.. If the WADA will reimpose the sanction I won't be suprised. The Russians deserve it unfortunately.

Yagudin's interview with Tatiana Tarasova
December 2018
(with subtitles)
part 1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_575oSvfBQ
part 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifY-XnQyhlM

It is interesting, that some posters here believe, that Tarasova is extremely powerful, but Tarasova tells she even couldn't get work in Russia when she had returned.

I like these Tarasova's words about her father:
"in the contract - when he was expected to write how much money he asks - he wrote: "as much as I deserve by results of my labour". Only a soviet man - a communist - could give such an answer! He really thought so."
I'm not very old, but I think, that soviet way of thinking is really good from some point of view. I really hope our people will manage to save it: thinking about the result more than about money, being ready to help without saying how much money should be given for that. It doesn't mean, that Russians don't need food or clothes, but... yes, I think this is a good feature.
I also like, that Tarasova is ready to help Vodorezova - and to be grateful for such an opportunity. Tarasova's destiny wasn't as easy as maybe it seems to be, but she has found a decent decision for every problem.
Tarasova even seems to be powerful, doesn't she? :)

Unfortunately it is not as innocent as a "joke". She said (there are several articles already) that "she was pissed off about loosing at the last (4th) Cup of Moscow (Eteri's girls came ahead), and that she said it out of spite, it was mean to be sarcasm as in "the only way to win is to take dope" and it was not about herself, but did not know that her words would cause such a stir".
https://matchtv.ru/doping/matchtvne..._o_svoih_slovah_pro_doping_Ja_skazala_glupost

— Я сказала глупость. Может, потому, что проиграла на последних соревнованиях. Я не думала, что меня не так поймут, — сказала Шаботова в своем Instagram.

- I said something stupid. Maybe, because i lost at the last competition (she lost to Eteri's girls). I had no idea that my words would be so misunderstood (i did not think my words would be so misinterpreted).

Shabotova also said in another article that she intended her comment to be against Eteri's girls, because they beat her, so that's why she insinuated that "they probably take dope at Kristal/Chrustalny rink"
https://rsport.ria.ru/20190121/1549645078.html
- "Мне интересно в "Хрустальном" пьют или не пьют? Нет, ну конечно, пьют", - добавила Шаботова.
- "I wonder if they do or do not drink dope at Chrustalny? No, they must be, certainly.." added Shabotova.

She just switched this past summer from "Moskvich rink"/Irina Strahova, to "Snow Leopards", coach Svetlana Panova, who also coaches Kanysheva, Kostuk, Sinytsyna, and many others. Panova did not deserve to have her reputation questioned. Because many people did not get Shabotova's joke/sarcasm and now many articles coming out about "Shabotova taking dope"..

I already read every article..I like this "her parents are in pre-infarction state"..

I would be having a Myocardial infarction (aka heart attack) too, if my door bell and telephone was bombarded by journalists and media all night.... :D

The deadline was Dec 31, 2018. New Year! then there were 2 weeks of various Russian holidays, Orthodox Christmas, Old Year celebrations etc. Now the holidays are over, and WADA got their stuff (plus originally WADA brought equipment that was not certified in Russia and it had to be given a certification).

WADA should have asked in advance, how wise it is to give a deadline for ANYTHING to Russians during New Year holidays....

I hope first thing WADA does, after 2 weeks of "holidays", is test RUSADA's workers for alcohol abuse..... :D

Please, don’t let my mom see this or she’ll kick me off this forum 🙈

Will they never learn? You don’t mess with authorities. Two Russian skaters and their partners missed the 2018 Olympics. Russia needed to be flawless in cooperation with WADA.

Don’t. Remind. Me.

so glad to read this. i hope it is true..

I was hoping the fur coats I see on instagam are fake. I have one fur coat given to me my my aunt many yrs ago . I will never wear it but keepit for sentimental reasons. This year a very wild feral cat who I have been feeding for about 7 yrs has been still coming even though it is so cold. We built a box for him lined with old comfortors and towels and recently added the fur coat to the pile. My aunt would have liked that.

It looks like Janny and Alina did some kind of advertising campaign together. (Apologies if this was mentioned already -- I searched but didn't see it.) They both look very cute.

it's this one.. first video "story line" and there several versions of the advert itself in 2nd video.

This is 2nd set of adverts, segment called "Reunion". First set in August 2018 only had Zag.

This is a smart commercial move for both girls and i am glad they listened to advises.

Next season Zag/Med will have to take step back behind new junior girls who are transferring to seniors and will be the 3 Stars (3 Eteri's Angels) for the next Olympic cycle. Zag/Med apart/individually have less commercial value (and too much accumulated negative aura) than "2 Golden Girls, sensations of 2018 Olympics".

Totally OT but the best insulator for your purpose is straw (straw, not hay). Comforters and towels are great until they get wet (rain, melting snow, etc.). The fur should be ok but the lining could trap moisture.

Have no idea where to get the straw. We have put up a sort of wall which block most of the rain and snow. I gather up the top layers after the storm and wash and dry them

This is very true. They say straw is one of the only things that doesn't hold moisture and freeze. However, at the risk of going too off topic, there are many animal shelters that take in fur garments for newborn orphans.

I had heard of a big cat rescue that does that. Did not know shelters took them. I think that is a great idea for anyone who has one and is no longer comfortable with wearing it now that we all know the ugly details of that trade.

It is important to check if the fur (that is to be donated and used for baby animals rescue) is not painted or dyed with substance that can come off. baby animals often lick or suck on fur or blankets. the ones with multi-color paints, are usually cheap dyes.. https://static.standard.co.uk/s3fs-public/thumbnails/image/2019/01/18/14/furcoats.jpg?w968

I am so sick of reading about fur coats! CN we please talk about skating? For example, how is Liza doing?
Vash, I was kidding! Aren't you used to my sense of humor after we've been in this place for like a hundred years? Not that I don't care about fur. Tinami was very concerned about Volosozhar's possible real fur wearing in a family photo. Of course I should be a mature adult and stop poking TA with comments about her beloved Eteri endlessly wearing fur at competitions. ;)
