U.S. Ice Dance 2018-19 season news & updates

Dave Lease reported that the team of Hawayek and Baker are getting over a concussion. Does anyone know anymore about this?

So, I keep watching the videos of Avonley and Vadym.

I truly think they will be my next Gilles & Poirier and Guignard/Fabbri.

And definitely my Fav USA team.... They make you watch them... I am glued to them.

How many Junior teams have competed domestically so far this season? My current count is as many as 20 teams could be competing at Sectionals in mid-November. Top 4 in each Sectional will advance to Nationals (12 teams total + N/K).

Catching up on more Lake Placid practice clips (not yet posted in this thread): ...
Novice:
Peal/Peal [clip from their FD to The Greatest Showman]: https://www.instagram.com/p/BmWhaTql-Lg/
Article on the Peal family -- Elliana (age 11) & Ethan (age 14), coached by their father Rob, a former national and international ice dancer: https://www.ice-dance.com/site/the-peals-a-skating-family/
The duo moved up to novice after winning the intermediate title. Next, U.S. Figure Skating selected them to attend an Advanced Novice Ice Dance International Development Seminar. Among the world-class coaches in Oberstdorf, Germany, were Jon and Carol Lane (CAN), Juris Razgulajevs (CAN), Dr. Rostislav Sinicyn (CZE), and Maurizio Margaglio (ITA), the 2002 Olympic bronze medalist with Barbara Fusar-Poli.
“There were 30 teams invited, and we were the only U.S. team there,” Ethan said. “To be on the ice with skaters from around the world was fantastic.”
“Maurizio and I competed at the same time, which made the camp even more exciting,” Rob added.
"Their father and ice dancing coach, Rob Peal, was a competitive ice dancer from 1985 to 2000. He placed ninth at the World Junior Championships in Hungary in 1991 and competed at the World University Games in Poland in 1993." (Excerpt from a local Chicago article published after the Peals won the Intermediate title at 2018 Nationals): http://www.chicagotribune.com/subur...skating-champions-tl-0125-20180125-story.html

Ethan also has qualified for Midwestern Sectionals in Intermediate Men by placing 2nd at UGL Regionals.

Lorraine McNamara/Quinn Carpenter are listed for their second ISU Challenger competition - Inge Solar Memorial in Innsbruck, Austria, November 13-17 -- on USFS' International Assignments page and the ISU website. This competition is scheduled for after their 2 Grand Prix competitions (Skate America & GP Helsinki).
Karina Manta/Joseph Johnson are listed as alternates on the ISU site.

Regarding the Chock and Bates withdrawal, anyone know if her foot is still a problem or is it something else?

Might just be that they don't feel like they're prepared enough to make the impression they want. They got to Montreal end of July, maybe they decided they would rather show a better side at Nationals.

Or are not getting the level of attention require to be ready.... MF / Sam are off to TYCT, Patch and Romain are travelling to different competition for the past week.... This is not coming as a surprise!

Why on earth would MF and Sam be travelling with the TTYCT? This sounds like nonsense to me. Sure they did some of the choreo during the rehearsal period but there's no reason they'd be travelling with the tour!

What on earth? MF and Sam left right after the first show. Sam posted several Instagram stories of him working with H/B and H/D for example. Get your facts straight before posting.

New skating podcast, Skate Talk Online with host @Tony Wheeler, and producer Jacque Tiegs (@mysticchic) has posted wonderfully insightful interviews with Hubbell/Donahue and Manta/Johnson :encore:

And this unrelated video filmed in June shows skaters Hub/Don, Jason Brown, Bradie Tennell, and Vincent Zhou promoting 2019 4CCs in Anaheim, CA, while petting little dogs who were up for adoption. :D

Karina and Joe are adorable and I'm thrilled their getting a little more attention this season.

And I did not know that Ben Agosto did their SD! I'm excited that him and Trina Pratt (who is also awesome) are working with top level dance teams.

I did 100% get Joe's hint in the caption about Karina's girlfriend. I actually thought she was out because of it.

The interview with Joe and Karina was super adorable. How could I not love a team that includes two queer skaters, love for Yuri!!! on Ice, speaking out about body image and mental health issues in skating, reading books about social justice issues for fun, and hero worship of Ben Agosto and V/M? All things relevant to my interests! :D

Ted Barton after their FD: "Vadym is so strong. He handles Avonley delicately, carefully, but boldly. She is an angel, and as a team they are just magic. Wow, that was something special... When strong skating skills are married with strong emotional performance skills between two people, it creates something that makes our sport so wonderful."

C&B are a smart team that are veterans of the sport and well understand how it works. They got a late start to the season due to Madison's foot surgery. I think they are well aware that the last few seasons have been up and down for them and they lost standing. They have to know that entering this new quad, it's pretty do or die from the get go. They need to have a strong debut and likely they aren't QUITE there yet due to the late start. I wouldn't read much more into it.

Vadim is just as strong as many others. Let's not forget that Avonly minimum 1/2 the weight of other girls in ice dance.

She looks so much younger off-ice! I was looking at her Instagram and was bowled over by how young she looked.
