I think using Nationals for pairs and dance works out fine, they will work out the same regardless...

For ladies, we chose a team of Ting and Starr originally, then Emmy took Starr's place. Emmy had a great first part of the season and then tanked big time at Nationals. Then she scored within 1 point of her Nationals total at Junior Worlds, while Ting improved quite a bit on her score from Nationals. Meanwhile, we left at home Pooja Kalyan, Hanna Harrell, and Beverly Zhu, all who outscored Emmy by about 30 points at Nationals. Granted Pooja and Beverly didn't have the minimums (Pooja I believe got them but after the team was named). A post Nationals monitoring camp or competition might have bore out a different team. It might not have changed anything for the # of spots, but some year it might...

USFS currently has held a post-Nationals Junior Worlds camp (singles) for the past 2 years.

USFS currently has held a post-Nationals Junior Worlds camp (singles) for the past 2 years.
And the GC report/year summary says that in future years, the JW training camp will be used to select the team, plus alternates.

When JW was held in December in the 90's, I know the USFS held a JW selection competition in the late summer/early fall with invited, eligible skaters and they went off those results for JW since it was so long after the previous year's Nationals and before the coming years Nats. It seemed to work for them.

I voted for current system, which allows for Committee discretion. One of those discretionary points I'd use for single skaters is that nobody gets sent to JW unless they 1) have a triple-triple that is successful the majority of the time (and rotated) and 2) has a full set of triples including a true lutz. US has had an unfortunate habit of sending great PCS skaters who are completely uncompetitive at JW on TES especially in ladies. That dog won't hunt anymore, especially with the Koreans now on the scene along with the Russians and Japanese. I don't have a problem sending skaters to JW who skate senior at US nationals but are ISU age-eligible for juniors.
