I, Tonya

No, I read your post and found it first on TSL's Twitter - my fault for thinking you wrote about the tweet, not the Facebook page. I did not have you on ignore. Yes, you posted it first. My additional comment was the ludicrousness of her thinking she could charge people money for asking her questions she didn't like.

I think she'll eventually come to her senses (maybe?) It's probably just severe 1994 public scrutiny PTSD coming back to haunt her. Rosenberg apparently couldn't talk her down, got angry and quit (again.)

I'm not watching the Critics Choice Awards because I'm watching the Tonya special on ABC. The LaVona clips are already "golden" - They were not trailer trash because they had a new trailer. Also, she wasn't putting brandy in her coffee, it was just brandy flavoring. The apple does not fall far from the tree.

Olivia Munn just did a small skit at the Critics' Choice Awards. They did a fake trailer for a movie called I, Nancy where she played Nancy and she goes "wtf?!" about a movie being made about Tonya. Then she says, "She said she didn't know, huh? Ok, whatever..."

Hope Tonya wasn't there...:shuffle:

OMG ... anyone watching the Critics Choice Awards who just saw the, uhm, clip for "I, Nancy"?????

Well played Olivia Munn!! Well played!
Well that would explain this tweet from Nancy. :D

Haven't seen the film, didn't see the awards and am mystified as to how she can preen around like she's some kind of superstar. I have all the sympathy in the world for an awful abusive upbringing, but that does not excuse attacking someone.

Local news found out that my coach was competing in pairs at 1994 nationals and got her story. We're all joking now that she's famous.

Look who's talking about whining!! I watched The Price of Gold a few days ago, and Tonya was whining about Nancy blowing her off in Norway when she tried to talk to her. I'm surprised she didn't bring that up again here.

And, of course, they're going to drag this out to the very end before we get to her latest comments.

And bitterness??? Tonya??? Hell to the yeah no matter how much she says things don't matter.

im not proud to be watching this. but it was worth it for "i love rum flavoring."
they make it sound like everyone she skated against was the earl of grantham's daughter
and im not sure how this lifetime ban had much effect on her life, in a realistic way

And we're waiting until the LAST possible minute to get to this new "confession..."

Ok, now I’m confused again about the “ban”. They just made it seem like she chose resignation over prison. And yet again, the story changes

True. The DA wanted to keep her from going to World’s. The deal would not have stayed on the table had she gone.

The lifetime ban took away from Tonya the thing that she loved most, and ended her career in competitive skating. The effect of that on her life was HUGE and will extend throughout her lifespan. Much more far-reaching than an 18 month prison sentence.

Tonya will always have to wonder what her career prospects would have been, if not for the incident and the ban. Probably a version of "I could have been a contender".

I wonder if the media will turn on only Tonya or also the movie.

Tonya already showed she is vulnerable on that Good Morning Britain show, so I can see that being acted out again ... And again ...

do you really think she would have continued on to nagano? that seems like it would have been a stretch. and even if she didnt get a lifetime ban, a shorter ban would have ended any realistic chances she had. for the record, i think the ban is fair. if i did the same thing at my workplace, it would never be my workplace again.

Honestly I thought the movie was just good when I saw it, I had problems with the domestic violence in the movie and I thought there wasn't enough clarity about certain things in it. This movie release press tour/campaign thing and all the articles about Tonya and her being "misunderstood" has been like the weirdest thing. It's like they're parading her around and then celebrating Tonya in a room of "#TimesUp" pins and people wearing black was really surreal.

People seem to be taking the movie at face value and that Tonya knew nothing despite her changing her story every time and the piece of paper with her handwriting on it etc etc. I'm just kind of uncomfortable with it all right now.

I was a little offended for Midori Ito when they were going on and on about Tonya and the triple axel. They said one time that she was the first American woman to land it and the rest kept referring to first, first, first and no one else could do what she did.
Yeah they totally ignored Midori Ito.

The movie awards nerd in me (and the Lady Bird and Metcalf supporter in me) wouldn't mind some major backlash over the film to avoid an Oscar season with Alison Janney winning all the big televised awards to the point where come Oscar time there's no suspense and boredom takes over.

The ban extended to her skating in any US sanctioned events and coaching in US sanctioned events, so yes it effectively ended any career she could have had in skating, not just eligible competitions. Not saying it was wrong because I agree, but it truly was devastating to any future prospects she had in the sport.

Are you sure you're talking about Janney here? It sounds more like Janny.

but many of the skaters didnt want to skate with her in a pro am or on a tour, so what were these sanctioned events? isnt that why rosenberg put together that event with people that didnt mind skating with her?

Apparently Tonya's son (6?) is skating now. She's apparently teaching him herself. If he ever decided to compete in the USFS system, one would wonder if Tonya would be allowed in even to watch. Obviously she'd have to get another coach for him or have him go without one, but who knows if they'd even police club competitions... And if he got to Nationals would she be allowed a chaperone pass? I doubt it, but it would be strange to see if her son made it that far.
