Can you point me in the rules where it says the original of music used in this season's short dance must be composed as that rhythm from the outset?

There is no such written rule, as you well know - and anyway, I wasn't even referring to other teams that don't use original Latin rhythms. The discussion was about V/M's choice.

The battle for bronze at OG is going to be epic.

As well as number 1 in the USA.
Chock&Bates are really late in their preparation, but IMO both programs do have interesting choreography and transitions.
She Hubbell has good vehicles and sells the crap out of it.
The shibs are being the shibs and have room to improve on those programs.
I wouldn't like to be a judge there, because each team is good in its own way.

Just checking the scores, it looks like it's going to be a bloodbath between V/M and P/C. There won't be another SD cushion like at 2017 Worlds. B/S just helped H/D stake their claim to the GPF. H/D just needs to do their jobs and win a silver and they'll beat B/S in a tie break. Actually, B/S probably know they're out of the GPF and that explains why they're upset. Whichever of C/B or W/P win bronze at their next GP, they still beat B/S on a tie break. So it looks like C/B and W/P are well on their way to the GPF too. Even if H/D get two bronzes, that only means C/L won a silver at NHK and they most likely will place second at worst at Skate America, so they would qualify. If H/D wins another bronze, then that just means both H/D and B/S are out not that B/S gets in.

I agree that it's gonna be tight between P&C and V&M. In both programs. And that is great. I love both teams, I'm not in love with either SDs, but both FD are good at the moment. Not as great as those scores made them be :p

Agreed, but then as long as the placements are right, then I guess that's what matters. I mean Davis/White got two perfect 10.0s in PCS. If that Scheherezade got those kinds of scores, why not P/C's Moonlight Sonata and V/M's Moulin Rouge?

Well they should both get 10s in all PCS if you want to compare it to that stupid Sheherazade stupid FD.

They did for sure but that FD was craptacular from a choreography view only. The elements were great, but there was really nothing extraordinary in transitions or choreography.

I think unless a big surprise is in store (like a withdrawal or Stepanova/Bukin beating one or both of Chock/Bates and Weaver/Poje and Cappellini/Lanotte not skating well enough to be in silver medal contention at Skate America and bronze medal contention at NHK), it looks like the GPF field will be six of Papadakis/Cizeron, Virtue/Moir, Shibs, Weaver/Poje, Chock/Bates, Hubbell/Donohue, and Cappellini/Lanotte. If things go as expected, there's no way Bobrova/Soloviev get in.

But I do like lots of FDs this season :D You are mean.:EVILLE:
P&C, V&M, H&D, W&P, B&Solov (yeah I do), Shibs (hell yeah), StepBukin, C&B (despite that horrid music), C&L (even if I'm waiting for a better camera work)
And down the ranks, I do also love many FDs.

The SDs I all hate with a passion but for the brits.

B/s are so hated by all the judges!

They didn't skate well. They were slow and tight. They have to get more power out of their blades with their height and yet they're as slow as the shibs and skating small.
They must move to a new coach! It’s only November.

Wait, you actually like the Shibs' FD? Really?

I do. Really. It's a great FD for them. I still think they have more to do on it to get it at least to the "Fix You" level, but IMO that is a great vehicle, a lot better than last year's crap.
At least, it's them.

I usually like it when skaters are themselves and not trying to copy others like they did last season.

I didn't think they were trying to copy anyone with Evolution, but we'll just disagree on that. I think it was really them...in fact maybe it was too them...the more subtle, reserved, cerebral them that people don't like as much.
It wasn't them at all sorry. It was a tentative ripoff P&C style. Like everyone else tried.
Sure they did try to put a lot of them in it, still it looked like a ripoff.

I mean I guess it boils down to like, but it could also just be that it's harder to connect with which is the reason skaters like VM choose Moulin Rouge for their FD and rock music for their Latin SD...it's easy accessible music that a lot of people already like. If the music is popular, a huge hurdle is already cleared. (because there is no question they can "skate up" to the music, it's because so many less skilled skaters tackle huge pieces we grow weary of it)

Coldplay is also popular and accessible. (Of course there are people that don't like them) I was rewatching everything this week and I really feel like the Shibs can create the kind of moment they want with this FD. I really hope they do as I love the music and the potential of the FD.

Evolution was close to the Shibs “O” exhibition from 2014-2015. A lot of the moves were similar. The Shibs also did a similar mood piece with their Memoirs of a Geisha FD back in 2012-2013. I think some who say it was a P/C rip off do so in a way that’s very shallow and makes almost every program qualify as a rip off even when they’re not. Alex and Maia also worked very hard in handling the arrangement of the music themselves, so that was a lot of them in that program. I mean you don’t know them to say what is them and what is not. That measurement isn’t whether you like a program.

Paradise isn't a good music choice, but what is interesting is how they've managed to rearrange it to fit them.

I agree with you on that. The Shibs haven’t convinced me to like that song. Hopefully they can.

And IMO they've added a layer to that music that isn't in the Coldplay rendition of it, even the live version. It makes it a lot more whole. If that makes sense?

I feel like narratives become very popular in all sports and they are easy to fall into the trap of using instead of thinking critically about things. Of course, it's easier to see nuance in one's favorites because you love them. But every contemporary FD being a PC rip-off and PC skating the same program every year are two of my current pet peeves in ice dance narratives.

I CANNOT with P/C SD score here. PLAIN RIDICULOUS. How in the world did the program they performed get a score above 80? It's honestly one of the worst latin programs I've seen so far this season. Music is crap, her twizzles were sloppy, and it just felt cheap. It didn't feel like a program packaged by Marie France and Patrice. Edges were fine but V/M are wayyyyyyyy better at this pattern than them so it blows my mind that they got that score.

Nearly all those SDs are craptacular for latin. This is such a lame theme for Olys :(

Well you think P&C are cheap, I will say V&M are bordeline vulgar (like all latin ballroom for my taste).
They have equally good SS. Both programs leave a lot on the table IMO and are borderline too easy.

IMO the best SD so far goes to Penny&Nick. C&B have an interesting choreo but skated it crap.

I think it's not the fact that they've done a contemporary FD.
Take W&Poje two seasons ago, that was a contemporary FD, but it was them to the toe.
With the shibs, they tried too hard, hence the P&C ripoff. It wasn't them enough.

Oh dear. Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.
