I'm no teknik on this, so maybe someone else knows...every team I looked at on the protocol (went down about 7 or 8 spots) got some 'votes' for either a violation of choreo restrictions or music restrictions, or both - anyone know why? Of course, it takes a majority of the panel to agree so no deductions were taken (usually only 1 or 2 judges...wonder if it was the same two for each team :shuffle:). I'm thinking the music deduction would have to do with the rhythm matching the steps, but the choreo restrictions were...?

Just a little excerpt from the GOE deduction chart:

Violation of choreography restrictions:

Short Dance: as per Rule 709, para 1.d) (pattern), g) (separations), h) (stops) and i) (touching the ice with hand(s), (except for Hip Hop and does not meet the definition of a Fall)

Stepanova/Bukin had three votes for music violations. Wow.
If there's any team that should get a music violation, it should be Gilles/Poirier. I mean WTF was that? Good thing he got rid of the hideous sleeves though. I would have gone out of mind if I saw that one more time.

But Gilles/Poirier is one of the teams to actually use Latin music.. I'm not laughing at you at all and I respect your opinion, I just think it's funny given the situation of some teams pushing rules a bit with some of their music choices.

I know I'm a Shib fan, but I like to try to be as objective as I can while knowing that I am biased towards the Shibs, but I don't think their pattern sucked...like at all.

ITA. Their pattern was big and they skated with speed and power throughout the whole program. If they had skated bigger or faster they would have gone over the boards and landed in the judges' laps. Their twizzles were (insert jaw drop here). Sometimes I wonder if we are watching the same programs.

I'm surprised not a single top team is using "Magalenha." Weaver/Poje used the song before, but this season, I've only seen Lorenz/Polizoakis skate to it.

I personally think it's one of the best vehicles for exciting an audience in a Latin SD season.

I thought of your post today while watching CoR today, Kuzmichova/Sinicyn of Czech Republic used this music today but they're not quite a top team. The energy could be better and I think I like the each piece they used by itself better and not together like this.

Aside from the music comment (other people have already pointed out that it's authentic, so giving them a violation would be totally wrong), I'm not sure what you mean about the sleeves. Nothing changed from Autumn Classic to here. At both events, he starts with them tucked up and then she pulls them down later in program.

Personally, I think the sleeve thing is cool, but of course YMMV.

Seriously, if there's one thing I can say, the Shibs were not slow. It's a common and bordering boring/typical criticism but they covered more ice and had more speed than last year. They have clearly been working hard.

Out of all the programs we've seen so far, I'd say that Penny and Nick and Maia and Alex have the most thematically cohesive programs.

Okay.
Shibs were okay. Slow, but ok. Their pattern BTW sucks. But I'll take that SD.

Stepanova has edges. OMG. She has. That was so much better than their last outing. Really enjoyed it this time around.

B&S have changed that awfull music to something less awfull. As slow as the shibs, but IMO, they show less clean edges than Stepanova&Bukin. And that's ... well I would have had them 4th.

I thought Shibs owned the event today. I didn't find it particularly slow, rather confident with out of this world twizzles!

Stepanova's edges, their glide and smoothness are the reasons I do not have a problem with S/B being ahead of G/P. And I agree with the other poster who has them being contenders the next quad as they develop further..

Honestly, I love them too, much more than G/P, and I think they're going to be excellent in the next quad to come.
Now being a fan of one team doesn't mean I want them to beat everybody, especially when someone puts on a better performance... and I think G/P skated cleaner and better in the SD. I have to admit I'm surprised.
I do like that G/P always try to do something out of the box, but this SD to me is just all sorts of wrong. Can't stand the music with the high pitch scream at the end.

S/B definitely skated cleaner and they just brought this electric energy. G/P's twizzles yesterday were sloppy and I think that's why they're in fourth right now.

I actually liked Stepanova's & Bukins performance better than B/S. S/B are getting stronger and cleaner and I was underwhelmed with B/S program and performance...which also happened at worlds last year. It will be interesting to see the free dance today

SO HAPPY for Stepanova/Bukin! That was a really soft, lovely skate! They earned a FD score of 108.03, beating Bobrova/Soloviev in TES by about 3 points! INCREDIBLE achievement for them.

I'm not a huge fan of the Shibs, but congrats to them. This Coldplay FD is something.

Well I was unhappy yesterday, but today for me is a no brainer : I've never seen them skate like that. The FD highlights their SS and speed a lot. I still wish for them to change the opening of the 2nd lift because of Finlandia Trophy, it scared me, and it's not necessary for level4.

Oh My God, Im becoming a Dance addict.

Ill be honest it had usually been my least fav but over the years I think its tied now with pairs for me..

After I saw G&P skate, I was like wow, give them a gold medal...

Then G&F went, and Im like.. wow, give them a gold medal...

Then B&S went and even with a mistake..im like wow give them a silver medal...

Then it was The Shibs and Im like wow.. give them a gold medal...

Then it was S&B and Im like wow, give them a gold medal..

LOL, Hi My name is AngieNikodinovLove and Im a Dance addict.

Some notes from me..

1. Did G&P change their free dance since Autumn Classic???? I remember not liking their music, this I liked...... They are SOOOOO INNOVATIVE, LOVE THEMMMMMM!!!

2. I also loved a softer, lyrical side from G&F. That was super amazing. Was nice to see a change in styles with them.

3. The Shibs I loved but their free music was the least interesting for me of all the teams.. :( I dunno, maybe cause Ive heard Paradise like 1000 times that maybe I don't find it that interesting anymore. LOVE LOVE LOVE them but the music for me left me a bit uninspired. Other than that, Now I want to be a dancer!!!!!!

4. Poirier and Bukin are so PORNY award worthy for me this spring!!!!!!

We still have Chock/Bates and Cappellini/Lanotte left to see. Chock/Bates are going to Cup of China in 2 weeks against Bobrova/Soloviev and Papadakis/Cizeron. Are Cappellini/Lanotte competiting before NHK trophy ? If not they'll go directly against Virtue/Moir.

Well I'm rooting for Step&Bukin to win nationals because B&S really are regressing. Skating slow is one thing they've always done, but they used to do in on clean edges. Not this time around. Sad because their FD is really a killer.
S&B on the other hand have terrible music, but they skated lights out and IMO were underscored.

The shibs? Well I'm not sold on that FD, but IMO, when they connect to it with the public, it'll be ok.

Bukin always looks like he's having the time of his life. It makes it really easy to root for him/them.
I feel for G/P- the judges elevated them last season to almost W/P level, but here, have decisively knocked them behind S/B in the PCS. Losing ground during the Olympic season must hurt :(

Well at ACI the judges had G/P only 1.3 pts behind W/P in total. At ACI their total points were 172.26 and just now in Russia their total points were 172.29. W/P´s total score at ACI was 173.56 so.....

So two separate international panels have judged them now exactly the same in both competitions. Will be interesting to see how W/P score next weekend. The should place better than G/P did here based on the entries but it will be the numbers that will be interesting to see.

Yes, the W/P score will be really interesting because we may be seeing both the top 2 Russian teams being placed ahead of the second place Canadian team this season if W/P stay so close to G/P. That's a new development in this quad.

Last season, W/P got consistently higher PCs than G/P but because they kept making major technical mistakes, it held them back. I'm sure they've improved tenfold since ACI, and skating on home ice for your first Grand Prix of the season has to have its advantages.

Are Charlene and Marco dating? He kissed her hand before the start of the FD.
How about Laurence and Nikolaj? They've had at least one quick lip kiss in the K&C.
And Madison and Evan? Occasional posts on Instagram seems to suggest they are together, but it's not acknowledged officially, right?

Laurence and Nikolaj are together and open about it publicly. I've heard the speculation about Madi and Evan, but they've never said anything. Don't know about the Italians.

I'm underwhelmed by the COR dance. Still early in the season I guess. Loved the Shibs' SD but the costumes were hideous (sorry, but that flesh coloured shirt, ugh). I loved their costumes in the FD but found their program so boring - precise, well skated, but boring. The only team I really liked was G/P. Perhaps I need to go back and review the vid again ...
