From Russia with love [#23]: Spring/Summer 2016

http://tass.ru/sport/3287152 Goncharenko: Max approached her with this suggestion on Monday, it was a surprise, they are continuing discussions.

http://tass.ru/sport/3287645 Tarasova: Not involved in this decision, the athlete has to make the choice for himself. Max realises that Buianova has done a lot for him, but he wants a change, in the coach & the environment in order to make improvements.

It also says in that article that Tchernyshev has done the FS but the SP will be done with someone else.

Russians keep delivering.
We only need some scandal involvng synchro team and I'll scream "Bingo"

He wouldn't be able to handle it with Raf - although I would love for Ashley to sass Kovtun and have a "toepick!" moment with him, so maybe try it for a week.

Sometimes people just need a fresh start....Maybe greatness is hidden in there somewhere just fighting to come out.

That's Plushenko's mantra and mindset, basically. :plush:

:p I'm tough on Kovtun because of all the stuff Tarasova publically says about him with training in interviews/commentating. Maybe the fresh start will work out for him.

Plushenko (and every ounce of his crazy) wants that 2nd spot though, so I would get serious about it.

Agreed..it really is shit or get off the pot time

I'm not sure how good Goncharenko is as a coach given Radio's many flaws which she never addresses, but it may have been a case of "nowhere else to go" for Kovtun given that he had burned his bridges with every other Russian coach

lol honestly that could be an interesting short program for Kovtun, the energy is great. If I were a skater I'd maybe call it "The Prodigy medley" for the ISU bio/television graphics. :shuffle:

Ilinykh/Zhiganshin to stay with Shpilband

http://rsport.ru/figure_skating/20160519/923966651.html

According to this source, they will return to Detroit after a visit to Russia. However it sounds like the Russian fed may not fully support the decision to stay with Shpilband? Perhaps a Russian speaker can confirm.

I'm very happy that they will stay with Shpilband. I don't know if he's the "answer" but I think it's better than them staying under Kustarova.
