2015 - 2016 TV Season

I'm behind on Jane the Virgin...but I'm wondering if we'll see Petra get in legal trouble for essentially stealing Rafael's sperm? I mean, they are officially divorced now, right? I don't remember that every being explicitly solved, but it seems like it would be official now. So wouldn't that be a problem?
 
I'm not sure yet about Supergirl. She was just a little too perky for my tastes. I like my superhero stories with more edge.

Plus I really dislike Calista Flockhart. Though I guess having her as an unlikeable character fits in that way ...
 
Catching up on various shows after a 2-week holiday in Thailand. I watched all four episodes of season two Madam Secretary. OMG, Tea Leoni is phenomenal. She is just hitting it out of the park. The biggest problem I have with this series is Henry. He is the best Dad ever! The best husband ever! The best professor ever! The best spy ever! Ugh, stop! This spy business is sooooooo boring and irritating. Get back to Elizabeth! Also, I miss Marin Hinkle.

I like it too, although, some of the plot lines have required a huge effort to suspend my disbelief. Secretary of State as President? Without a huge uproar? Passing over the Speaker of the House just like that without an equally huge uproar? Now we get the Russian widow playing the role of Evita. Entertaining but really out there.

I liked it until the secret agency was revealed. Then it got ridiculous fast.

The Speaker of the House was on the plane with the President, so he, too, was unreachable. And only those who absolutely needed to know knew. I admit it was a stretch and it kind of felt like there was no plot point to it... I'd have much preferred if, in fact, she had had to make a decision about Air Force One, for example. Something. It all felt very anti-climatic and was resolved so quickly. But they did give an explanation for the points you're pointing out.

I really enjoy this show. Henry was grating on me last season, but I'm used to him now. Tim Daly and Tea Leoni are a RL couple, and you can see the chemistry :) I do get a bit bored with the family drama, but at least now that it's roped in the White House with the President's son it's a bit more fun. If you also watch Nashville, there's a similar young romance on that show too, which seems to be part of an overall trend toward shows centred on young people who are somehow special (Quantico, Scorpion, Super Girl).

There was a telling moment this week or last with the NSA guy who Elizabeth hates - he said something to the effect of "you've been able to improvise your way out of a few situations, but this is the real world." That's been pretty much the plotline week to week until now - against a backdrop of bigger issues, each episode has focused on some small problem that she solves by improvising with her Scooby gang. One imagines Hillary and John Kerry et al watching this stuff with amusement and wondering where the Deputy Secretaries are and why she has so much time to sit on her kitchen counter eating breakfast with her kids :lol:

But now I'm hopeful that this Russia story will develop into something longer term, and something more serious, which is why I think they are also weaving in Henry's role more closely. I like that they've gone off reality instead of having a faux Putin as they did in season 1 and as we see in other shows such as House of Cards. Now they can really run with this, and it could be very :watch:

You're right - it was the President Pro Tempore wasn't it. I thought that was it but couldn't remember anything about the Speaker.

This is frivolous but I like that fact that Elizabeth has a bad hair day every now and then.

Well, the President Pro Tempore was mentally incompetent. ;) I guess that they didn't show how they dealt with it after they determined that needs to be chalked up to the lack of time on a TV show. One of the Chicago PD actors recently stated on twitter that they cut 8-10 minutes on the show! Even if there's an average of let's say 5 minutes on other shows, that is a lot of scenes! (Though I miss the times when TV shows were around 50 minutes!)

To me, the only point to the whole business was a. to bring in Morgan Freeman in a cameo (he's one of the producers, I figured it was only a matter of time before we saw him) and b. to build a great teaser trailer scene for the season premiere (I know it sure piqued my interest when I saw it!).

But I still love this show so will forgive them when they go a little crazy with storylines like that.

Guess those are valid reasons for a TV show :D And she did find out about the NSA guy that way (not that she couldn't have found out any other way.) I just would have liked it all a little better if she had actually done something or had had to do something ;)

But I still love this show so will forgive them when they go a little crazy with storylines like that.

I actually like that they're not rooted that much in reality. Probably wouldn't watch then. I think there's enough which doesn't get accomplished in politics in real life, and I don't need a TV show to see that, I could just tune into the news if I wanted to see what doesn't get done. So I'm enjoying that something can get accomplished on TV at least. I know it's fiction but that's why I watch :)
 
Did not think Bones and Sleepy Hollow had much in come but glad the crossover worked. I read that CW wanted a crossover between Arrow, Flash and Supergirl but CBS said no. I hope this encourages them to change their minds. :)
 
SH coming to Bones was okay. I just for the life of me couldn't see how Bones going to them would work so I didn't watch it. (Also, we didn't record it so I have to wait for it to appear on Hulu anyway.)

I'm glad that Limitless is doing well. I was thinking about the lead and how his portrayal of the character has these varying nuances. Cocky at times, scrambled-brained at times, vulnerable at other times and self-less when he hides what he is doing to protect his family...and when he chases away a woman he loves when he realizes keeping her close would put her in harm's way. He makes a great show better.

But sad that Crazy Ex Girlfriend's ratings are so low. It's one of those most successfully original and involving shows of recent memory. Plus I love how the lead and the woman she works with (for the most part) skip all the catty female co-worker BS and are just there for each other. (Well, it's kind of one-sided right now, but I'm sure in time that will get sorted out...if the CW gives it that chance!)

OUAT was excellent last night. This season does have its faults, but it feels the closest to the feeling of season 1 than anything we've seen in the last few seasons. Dark Emma is a turn that I really hadn't expected, but the show is doing well with it, IMO.

Funny, I had been wondering just yesterday if anyone was still watching since there hasn't been a thread around.
There are just a tad too many secondary characters for my liking (even though I do enjoy Merida a lot more than I enjoyed Anna and Elsa; I find Merida much more "authentic") but other than that, I'm enjoying it too.
