Who Do You Think Will Opt Out of Worlds?

What if both Med and Zag opt out of worlds? I hope Konstantinova and Tsurskaya are training hard, just in case.
Med and Zag?!? I hope not! Sotskova is very solid but Konstantinova is having her ups and downs in preparation for jr worlds!

I don’t see Zagitova or Medvedeva opting out. Doesn’t seem like their personalities at all. They know they need to strike while the iron is hot and before the next generation of Russians bumps them out.

Osmond is back at it and gunning for a higher step on the podium. She’s got some momentum so they better bring their A game :)

Interesting. I am not sure that Aaron/Zhou/Chen will get us 3 spots for 2019. Chen will score well, the other two?? Just depends. (I honestly don't expect much from Aaron. I doubt he's been training hard as 3rd alternate)

Max will have been training. Anyone who knows even a little about him could tell you that. He's mentioned before how he views being an alternate as a responsibility. He's also a pretty smart guy: he probably guessed Adam wouldn't go, and since he's friends with Jason and Ross, probably pretty easily guessed that he was a good chance.

Also? Max is still SB13 and at least five of the guys above him aren't going. He, Nathan and Vincent should be fine.

Somewhere in the world @misskarne just peed her pants a little.

Fell out of bed, more like.

Wait. I am hearing all sorts of speculation on Yuzu. Is he in or out???

In at the moment, but I feel like could be out. If you're curious, the five I counted as not going above Max were Chan, Rippon, Jason, Voronov, and Fernandez.

 Since when does Mirai had good will with USFS? I can't remember them throwing any favors her way
They named her to the Oly team, they gave her a spot in the team event (which gave her an opportunity to get out in the public eye in the early days of the Games), and they promoted her on their social media. I'm guessing they weren't thrilled with her comments about DWTS and her dissing her teammates, which is likely why she apologized/walked back on those a few days later.

And she has apologized. I think it's time to let this one go already.

Oh, I hadn't heard that. Well, good for her. But she may have lost some goodwill she had with USFS when she called her Oly FS a DWTS audition. And if she shows up at Worlds in less than competitive shape, that's not going to help. We'll see what happens.

The way USFS keeps hyping Mirai on twitter etc., I doubt very much she's lost any goodwill with them - which is a JOKE since she's NEVER had any goodwill from USFS! And if I were Mirai I'd hardly care. THEY certainly never had her back. The way they treated Ross was the way they treated Mirai 4 years ago. Not to mention how they backed Rachael Flatt back in the day while Mirai kept beating her internationally. But that's over now. I hope she goes to Worlds, but I'd understand if she doesn't.

Also, Mirai gave USFS NO CHOICE but to name her to the Olympic team and the team event the way she skated this past season versus everyone else except Bradie. It was always going to be Bradie and Mirai in that team event. Mirai sure as hell doesn't owe USFS any thanks for that. She EARNED her way on to the team.

I'm bummed that Adam, the Shibs, and Jason aren't going to Worlds but thrilled for Max. I WILL be totally bummed if Mirai goes missing too though. I'll still watch Worlds but my enthusiasm will be considerably dimmed, except for the Men's event since Nathan will still be there along with Vincent and Max.

I guess this confirms that I/M are not going to Worlds? They're still listed as possible substitutes on the ISU entry list and are no longer listed on the Worlds Wikipedia site. Neither of them seem to have made a comment on Twitter or Wikipedia, though.
I think Ily/Mos are one of only 2 Canadian teams left who are eligible to compete at Worlds if any of the other 3 have to withdraw, so I'm certain Skate Canada wants to keep them on the sub list just in case. Just guessing but from my spot in the peanut gallery, I think they would be okay with that, but also I imagine their contract with Skate Canada would oblige them to make themselves available if push comes to shove.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Ross wanting to end his career with that great skate at Nationals. If he's planning to keep skating, that's different. But I remember thinking when he went out on the ice that I just wanted him to have a great final skate, and he did. Maybe it didn't pan out the way he wanted, but I hope he'll take that memory with him as a wonderful one forever.

Having said that, kudos to Max for training and competing a full season! Happy for him.

What kind of contract would I&M have with Skate Canada.

GP medal, CS medal, top 5 finish at 4CC, and now a trip to Worlds. It's not been a bad season at all, really.

I hope it serves as a motivator. The joy he exuded during that 4CC skate made me think he's not really ready to go. But I suppose only he really knows. Whatever happens, I hope he can look back with pride and not regret.

Well I could be wrong and perhaps this is a thing of the past but I seem to recall that all the skaters who make the Canadian top 5 team and get international assignments are obliged to sign contracts at the beginning of each year in order to be on the team, receive funding, receive approval for outside opportunities to skate in shows, make money from endorsements, etc. I certainly remember Kurt talking about the contracts, and I think some others.

This page refers to a "Skate Canada Athlete agreement" but that seems to have more to do with carding (receiving funding for training). Maybe there are other parts to the agreement re endorsements, shows, and so on.

ETA: Not sure if this is the current version of that agreement, but this is what Mr. Google coughed up:

ITA. Since NEVER has Mirai had USFS's goodwill. She made sure with her upped technical content, especially that triple axel and BOW that they'd have no choice but to not overlook her this time for the Olympic team and the team event!

'Goodwill with USFS' my Aunt Fannie!!
